Mouni Roy reveals the biggest rumour she’s heard about herself: "That I’m gay"

Mouni Roy reveals the biggest rumour she’s heard about herself: That I’m gay

HINDUSTAN TIMES (June 14, 2026)

Weeks after announcing her separation from businessman Suraj Nambiar, actor Mouni Roy has responded to rumours about her sexual orientation that surfaced on social media following the end of their four-year marriage.

Speaking to Monika Sharma on her YouTube channel, the 40-year-old was asked about the most absurd rumour she had heard about herself. Without hesitation, Mouni replied, “Oh, that I am gay.” She also reflected on the strong support system that has helped her navigate challenging times.

“I have always had great girlfriends to support me. They have been there through my good, bad and ugly phases. It is very important to have women like that in your life, the ones who uplift you. My girlfriends are the best. I feel very lucky that I have always had friends and family who have stood by me like a rock,” she said.

Announcing their separation on May 14, Mouni and Suraj had shared a joint statement on Instagram, writing, “We would like to state that we have decided to part ways and are taking the necessary time to address matters privately and amicably. Attempts have been made to sensationalize our private lives by circulation of fictitious narratives and blatant falsehoods, which do not reflect the reality of our relationship. After thoughtful reflection on evolving personal priorities, we have mutually chosen to move forward on separate paths with respect and understanding.”

I’m glad Mouni Roy spoke up-Sunny Leone

Sunny Leone: I’m glad Mouni spoke up

Akash Bhatnagar (HINDUSTAN TIMES; February 15, 2026)

Recently, actor Mouni Roy spoke about facing harassment while performing at a public event, urging greater respect for artistes. Actor Sunny Leone, who frequently performs at large shows has now weighed in. While she has not faced a similar situation, Sunny says she understands Mouni’s stand.

“Maybe those people were a lot closer to her and I am glad she spoke up. I am proud of her for taking that stand that it’s not okay, because it isn’t. I think in the US it was happening with a lot of artistes on stage and they got extremely angry with that behaviour. I am happy Mouni did this,” she says.

Asked about her own live experiences, Sunny maintains she stays focused on her act: “I haven’t gone through something like what she has. If anything is happening around me during my performance, I don’t notice it. I am usually in my own world.”

The actor, who will next be seen in Kennedy, adds that such events can be overwhelming. “It’s pure madness usually. I performed at a New Year event with 12,000 people around... I was just focused on doing my job. But having said that, the audience should respect the artiste,” Sunny shares.

Mouni Roy alleges harassment by male guests at Haryana event

Mouni Roy alleges harassment by male guests at Haryana event

HINDUSTAN TIMES (January 25, 2026)

Actor Mouni Roy spoke out on Saturday about a disturbing incident at a recent event in Karnal, Haryana, where she says she faced inappropriate behaviour from several male guests.

Taking to her Insta Stories, the 40-year-old wrote, “I’m disgusted with the behaviour of the guests, especially two uncles who are old enough to be grandparents. As the event started and I walked towards the stage, they put their hands on my waist to click pictures.”

According to Mouni, the situation escalated once she reached the stage: “Two uncles stood right in front, making lewd remarks, showing me lewd hand gestures, and name-calling. I politely gestured to them not to do it, after which they started throwing roses at me. No family or organizers moved them from up front.”

Expressing concern for other women in the industry, the actor added, “If someone like me has to go through this, I can only imagine what new girls starting to work and do shows must be going through. I’m humiliated, traumatized, and want the authorities to take action.”

In another Story, she highlighted additional details about the incident, writing, “Have to also mention that the stage was at a height and these uncles were making videos at a low angle... The guts. The entitlement of being men. We are their guests, and they harass us like this.”

Shalini Passi to make big-screen debut with Madhur Bhandarkar's The Wives

Shalini Passi on making big-screen debut with Madhur Bhandarkar's The Wives: 'Have admired his work'

Komal RJ Panchal (MID-DAY; September 12, 2025)

Most will agree that there was only one take-away from Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives — that Shalini Passi is thoroughly entertaining on screen. Since the third season premièred on Netflix, Passi has received widespread attention, be it for her fashion choices, her art collection, or her life mantras. Now, she is making her big-screen debut with Madhur Bhandarkar’s The Wives.

What made her take up the extended cameo? The chance to work with the National Award-winning filmmaker, said Passi. “I have admired Madhur Bhandarkar ji’s films over the years. His stories are iconic. We also have several friends in common, so I had met him socially before. When the role was offered to me, I felt it would be a great experience,” she told mid-day.

Starring Sonali Kulkarni, Mouni Roy, and Regena Cassandrra, The Wives delves into the glamorous yet tumultuous lives of star wives. In a way, the film almost echoes the reality show. Passi reflected, “Art is always a depiction of life. Like all his other films, there are elements inspired by reality. How much of it relates to the web show or life, only time will tell.”

For now, the socialite-turned-OTT star is thrilled to transition from the web to the big screen. Passi confessed she realised the scale of her debut only when she reached the set. “I didn’t realise it was going to be a theatrical release. Now that it is, I’m excited to see myself, but even more eager to see the film as a whole. On set, everything was taken care of, and I was so happy with my vanity van — it felt like a little cocoon in the studio. Mouni Roy looks fabulous and is a wonderful human being. I also met Sonali Kulkarni for the first time.”

Mouni Roy, Radhikka Madan quash plastic surgery trolls

Bring it on! Mouni, Radhikka quash plastic surgery trolls

HINDUSTAN TIMES (April 16, 2025)

Speculation around cosmetic enhancements — be it Botox, fillers, or plastic surgery — isn’t uncommon in the entertainment industry, often directed at female actors. Recently, Radhikka Madan and Mouni Roy were at the centre of such chatter on social media. While the actors have not confirmed undergoing any procedures, they addressed the commentary in their own ways, pushing back against the scrutiny.

An Instagram user shared a video featuring altered visuals of Radhikka, along with a caption suggesting that she had undergone cosmetic procedures. It read, “...Radhikka Madan looks unrecognizable now after all that cosmetic work.” The post went on to add, “Radhikka Madan really took notes from Mouni Roy — new face, new vibe”. The video caught attention, with many expressing shock and surprise.

In response, Radhikka wrote, “Bas itne hi eyebrows uper kare hai AI use karke? Aur karlo yaar..ye toh fir bhi natural lag raha hai.” The reply, laced with sarcasm and humour, has been praised by fans.

Meanwhile, Mouni has also responded to the plastic surgery rumours about her. At a recent event, she said that she ignores such comments. Trolls targeted the actor after she was spotted at the trailer launch of her film, The Bhootnii, a few weeks ago. A day later, she posted an Instagram reel in a black slip dress, which invited more criticism. One user wrote, “Surgery went wrong,” while another commented, “Every public appearance is a new plastic surgery”.

Producers were not sharing their contact information with me because I am a woman-Preeti Singh

Preeti Singh: ‘Women can also make thrillers and actioners’

Recalling how she battled producers’ sexist attitude, Aliya Basu Gayab Hai director Preeti on helming a thriller to bust the myth that women only make rom-coms
Letty Mariam Abraham (MID-DAY; August 11, 2024)

Preeti Singh had assumed that making her first feature film would be a smooth ride, considering she previously co-directed the popular show Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchaan Hai featuring Amrita Rao and helmed several ads and short films. However, reality hit her hard when she set out to make Aliya Basu Gayab Hai. As the Raima Sen, Salim Diwan, and Vinay Pathak-starrer hit theatres on Friday, the director recalls how it was tough for her to get the project rolling in the sexist industry.

“Even though I have directed more than 45 to 50 commercials and worked with actors like [late] Sushant Singh Rajput, Mouni [Roy], and Jacqueliene [Fernandez], producers would say nice things to my face, but gossip behind my back when I presented my script to them. They never shared their numbers with me. Later, I realized they are not sharing their contact information with me because I am a woman. I understood the game slowly because I am an outsider,” recalls Singh.

She then roped in a male assistant director, hoping that would change things. “I’d take my male assistant director with me for meetings. These producers gave him their numbers, so I communicated via him.”

Aliya Basu Gayab Hai is a psychological exploration of human nature and sexuality, as it tells the story of three people. For her maiden feature, she deliberately made a thriller to make a larger point. “[It could show] that though stereotyped to be engaged in rom-coms, women can also create dark thrillers and actioners,” she states.

Singh says she faced another obstacle when the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) gave the film an ‘A’ certificate after chopping two pivotal scenes.

“There is a brutal scene of a girl being kidnapped, which was supposed to terrify the audience. The Board said, ‘Being a woman, how can you picturise another woman like that?’ But in my films, you will always feel the female gaze. The male gaze would’ve shown the scene in a different way. Maybe the female gaze wasn’t comfortable and that’s why the board removed it. [When they] gave me the reason behind the cut, I told them, I’ll make a rom-com next. We are hoping that the OTT platforms will allow us to release those scenes. If you cut out the main [scene], you will never feel the lead’s angst.”

My friends have made me an agony aunt-Mouni Roy

Mouni Roy: My friends have made me an agony aunt

Ready to give her vishesh tipni to lovers facing relationship turmoils, Mouni Roy discusses her role on Temptation Island
Letty Mariam Abraham (MID-DAY; November 7, 2023)

From Naagin to Brahmastra, Mouni Roy has shone in fantasy offerings. But now, the actor is trading the fantasy world for one that is driven by love, fidelity and temptations. Roy will be seen as the Queen of Hearts on her first digital reality show, Temptation Island. The Jio Cinema show is an adaptation of its international version of the same name. In conversation with mid-day, the actor talks about relationships, marriage and how her non-judgmental nature makes her perfect to play an advisor on the show.

Edited excerpts from the interview.

Why did you take up Temptation Island?
I have a good understanding of people’s emotions and relationships. Since I was a little girl, my friends or relatives would always seek my advice. They probably thought I had an unbiased opinion. Even now, I get late-night calls from my friends when they need my perspective. I have seen the international format of the show. It’s a social experiment to see how [couples] deal with [temptation]. When I was asked to be the Queen Of Hearts, I had no reason to [turn it down]. I was initially nervous. But now that I have shot for two weeks, I’ve found my feet.

Relationships are hard, why complicate it by involving a third party?
[Tempters] are a format of the show. Most couples who come to the show are in some sort of [conflict]; either the relationship is not going anywhere or they’ve been together for 11 years and don’t know if they wish to be together or not. On the show, you get to see if the relationship is strong enough. I believe when the relationship is strong, there is no space for a third person.

Isn’t it better to consult a relationship counsellor?
That choice lies with the people participating. When Jio Cinema [bought the rights] to the format, there were so many couples who wanted to [participate]. That itself shows their preference.

At any point in those two weeks, did you feel let down by trivial disputes?
Relationships are complicated. I am non-judgmental, that is why I find myself being a good fit in the mix. Everyone comes from a different background, their upbringing is different, so I can’t be talking to everyone uniformly. My first day of shooting was nerve-wracking because I didn’t know them at all. I handled it well eventually.

Did you have a script to follow?
The show cannot be scripted. You don’t know how they will behave or what they will say.

Would you call yourself an agony aunt?
I think I am one [laughs]. My friends have made me one over the years.

How do you resolve a conflict?
When I was younger, I used to be very emotional. With a lot of meditation and self-work, I’ve reached a place where if there is a problem, I try to find a solution. Of course, I have arguments with my husband, but we talk it out. I think after marriage, something changes; you know you have to be with this person for the rest of your life, so there is no point fighting. It’s easy to move on after a fight [once you are married]. If you hold on to it, I have realised that you hurt yourself more than the other person.

Given the opportunity, would you be part of the show?
I cannot be part of the show because I am married. It’s a prerequisite for the participants to be dating.

Do you think Brahmastra changed the way the industry looked at you?
It gave me a lot of respect. People knew that I could act, but when they saw me play Junoon, they appreciated it. My character wasn’t shouting or screaming, I was wearing an outlandish garb and I was a bit nervous because my dialogues were in shudh Hindi. So, I didn’t know how people would react. The audience’s acceptance and love overwhelmed me.

We make many women centric films today; some of the biggest global superstars are Indian women-Mouni Roy

Onkar Kulkarni (BOMBAY TIMES; October 24, 2023)

This is one festival that Mouni Roy eagerly awaits, however, this year the actress has missed most of the celebrations due to her shooting schedule. Amid work, she managed to make a quick visit to a pandal for pujo. Bombay Times captured her at Kumar Sanu’s MBCA Durga Puja in Mumbai. In a conversation with BT, she spoke about celebrating the power of women on Dussehra and her childhood memories of the festival. Excerpts:

Among the festive days of Durga puja, what makes Dashami (Dussehra) special for you?
The two most important days for me during pujo are the Maha Ashtami day and the Bijoya Dashami (Dussehra). On these two days, the celebrations and the energies are at their peak. It’s a mixed feeling on Dussehra because you prepare for Durga pujo for months, and then, on this day you bid Durga maa goodbye. As kids, I remember we used to wake up early, get ready in our white and red saris and head for sindoor khela. We would see women putting sindoor on each other’s foreheads, cheeks and their shakha pola (white and red bangles that married Bengali women wear).

Dusshera symbolizes conquering good over evil. Women have to overcome various battles at every stage – be it gender bias (at home and workplace), eve teasing or lack of equal opportunities. What are your thoughts about women constantly looking within them and finding the power to fight against these?
It’s sad that women face these evils even today, but I think we are moving towards a world where women can command and demand equality. I come from a small town (Cooch Behar, West Bengal) and I have studied in Delhi. So, I have seen everything very closely, and I feel it is important that all men have the knowledge and wisdom to treat women as equals with respect in our day-to-day life and even at workspaces. In terms of our (movie) industry, times have changed a lot. We make many women-centric films today, and some of the biggest global superstars are Indian women. It’s moving in the right direction. But many things come into play when you talk about equality at work, like the films that are mounted on male superstars or heroes… I think everything is equivalent to the number of days that you work and what’s your part in the film. So, there are a lot of metrics at play. I hope and pray to see equality soon, but I don’t see that happening in the near future, but we are definitely taking the right steps.

The festival celebrates the power of women. Who are the women in your life who have been a source of strength and inspiration?
I could go on and on about this because I am surrounded by women. My mom, aunts and other women are supremely intelligent… some of them are doctors, engineers and teachers. I grew up in a household that’s academically oriented, and we were always taught to be independent and to stand on our own feet. To have your individuality and be emotionally and financially independent is something I have been taught by my father and all the women around me. Now that I am working in Mumbai, I see my manager, stylists, and other team members around me, who are all hardworking women.

‘Sindoor Khela is about women celebrating each other’s strength’
Since I’ve been married, I have always worked on Dussehra. So, I haven’t really been able to participate in sindoor khela. I believe that it signifies power, purity, courage and strength. Red is a very strong colour. Sindoor khela is where women celebrate each other’s strength and happiness. I hope I get to be a part of it next year. Suraj (Nambiar, her husband) is equally involved in the festivities. Last year, he came to Mumbai, and we did the puja and ate bhog together. Unfortunately, this year, he is not in the country.

I felt there was a sexual, soft, subtle yet bold side to Mouni Roy that hadn’t been captured-Milan Luthria

With Sultan Of Delhi demanding a flamboyant protagonist, director Luthria discusses how he guided Tahir to play larger-than-life character
Priyanka Sharma (MID-DAY; October 9, 2023)

Flamboyance runs deep in the protagonists of Milan Luthria’s films, be it Ajay Devgn’s Sultan Mirza in Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai (2010) or Vidya Balan’s Reshma in The Dirty Picture (2011). Naturally, when he developed his maiden series Sultan Of Delhi, the director created a swashbuckling hero in Arjun, who hopes to become Delhi’s most powerful gangster. Tahir Raj Bhasin, whose ability to portray aggression and vulnerability in Mardaani had impressed him, was his first choice for the role.

Transforming the actor into the ambitious Arjun required some hand-holding, says Luthria. “In the beginning, Tahir was unable to understand what I was saying since it was a new world to him. I told him, ‘Flamboyance has as much to do with your mind as with your body language and voice.’ Initially, Tahir felt he needed to keep some distance from me because of my seniority. But we [bridged that gap],” recollects the director, happy that it evolved into a creatively fulfilling partnership, where each brought his strengths to the table.

“There were moments when he would say, ‘I want you to show me how to do this.’ For instance, there is a flamboyant shot of him taking out a rifle from a car and firing at a jeep. I showed him how to do it. At the end of the day, Tahir brought his own dimension and took the character a notch above.”

If there was another actor Luthria was certain about casting in the Disney+ Hotstar gangster drama, it was Mouni Roy. The director says, “I saw a picture of Mouni on Instagram, and had a vision of Nayantara [her character]. I felt there was a side of her—sexual, soft, subtle yet bold at times—that hadn’t been captured. [When we met], we instantly connected, which made working with her easy.”

One day, Mouni Roy gave me an ultimatum, and I realized that if I didn’t marry her, I would lose her-Suraj Nambiar

Mouni Roy Was Missing Husband Suraj Nambiar, So She Posted This

Onkar Kulkarni (BOMBAY TIMES; February 14, 2023)

Mouni Roy and her husband, Dubai-based businessman Suraj Nambiar, were dating for three years before they decided to take the plunge and tie the knot. The couple exchanged wedding vows last year on January 27. Mouni and Suraj, who come from completely different worlds, in an exclusive interview with Bombay Times on Valentine’s Day, for the first time, talk about how their romance blossomed and what it is that makes their marriage special. Read on…

After three years of courtship and one year of marriage, has the essence of Valentine’s Day changed for both of you? Can you recall any special moments spent on this day?
MOUNI: For the first few years, Valentine’s Day was all about surprising each other with gifts. Now, it is about spending more time with each other. Though, I must say getting gifts for Suraj is quite a task as he doesn’t like any presents and constantly gets them exchanged. So, it is best I ask him to choose and pick things for himself. We celebrated our first Valentine's Day just a month and a half after we started dating. He gifted me something precious at an open-air theatre where they played one of my favourite classic movies.

Both of you come from completely different worlds and when you met, you were living in different places (Mouni was in Mumbai, while Suraj lived in Dubai). How did this relationship unfold?
SURAJ: Having lived out of India for over 12 years, I wasn’t aware that Mouni was an actress. We met at a New Year’s bash in 2018 in Dubai. I went to the bar to get my drink and saw this bunch of girls and that’s where we exchanged a few glances.
MOUNI: I was in Dubai with nine couples, who were my friends. I was the only single one, so my best friend said that she would help me find someone at the party, and there she found him. That evening we didn’t talk much, but later I ended up going to Dubai frequently and we kept meeting; that’s how it all started.

When it came to taking the relationship to the next level and talking about marriage, who made the first move? How sure were both of you about taking the plunge?
SURAJ: For a long time, I was against the idea of getting married. However, having experienced it for a year, I must say it is quite peaceful, and I would recommend it. Mouni was quite clear that she wanted to get married very early on. After a couple of years of dating, she clearly said it was either this way (getting married) or the highway. I just kept buying time. Then one day, she gave me an ultimatum, and I realized that if I didn’t marry her, I would lose her. That’s when I realized we should get married as I knew that my life would be better with her.
MOUNI: What works for us is the fact that we both are very occupied in our professional lives. So, the moments we get to spend with each other, we make the most of them. There’s a conscious effort to utilize this time positively. We have grown a lot in this relationship. It has been quite a journey. We have had our fair share of arguments. But today, we are at a stage where we can be with each other without complaining, and just be ourselves and be happy.
SURAJ: I also had a lot of apprehension about partially moving to Mumbai. I thought it would be tough, but I saw Mouni putting in a lot of effort to make me feel comfortable here. Now, her friends are my friends and vice versa. It’s been a journey of growth. We’ve always enjoyed doing things together, soon we are partnering over work, too.

For someone who comes from a completely different field, Suraj, how does it feel to be married to a celebrity and deal with all the media attention?
SURAJ: In the early phase of our relationship, Mouni and I met in Dubai and places abroad. So, it wasn’t like she was constantly surrounded by fans and paps. It was only during my initial visits to Mumbai that I saw fans asking for her selfies and paps waiting to click her… that’s when it really hit me. Honestly, I wasn’t sure if I wanted everything that came with it (dating an actor). I realized that being married to Mouni would mean that I would have to live in the public eye. It’s part of the deal, and with time, I am getting used to it.

In this day and age, where relationships and marriages fail to stand the test of time, you have managed to stay together despite the constant travelling between Mumbai and Dubai. How do you manage that?
SURAJ: It’s all about prioritizing. One person can’t have all the qualities. So, you have to ask yourself what are the three qualities that you absolutely need in a partner and then find that person. This is the longest relationship I have been in, and a big part of that is because I let go of a lot of unnecessary expectations (from my partner).
MOUNI: At the beginning of a relationship, you will never know if the person is right for you. All you can do is, give them a lot of love and respect. Also, give the person space, and like Suraj said, don’t have unnecessary expectations. If you treat your relationship with respect every single day, you will see it flourish, and the rest, of course, is destiny.

Ayan Mukerji was clear that Junoon had to have a quiet confidence without screaming or shouting-Mouni Roy

Mouni Roy: Character needed quiet confidence

Mouni Roy decodes her character Junoon and the apprehension of slipping into outlandish garb in Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra
Uma Ramasubramanian (MID-DAY; October 9, 2022)

There’s no denying that the journey in showbiz has been an uphill climb for Mouni Roy. She made her debut on television and then became synonymous with her characters in Devon Ke Dev... Mahadev and Naagin. Post which, she ventured into films to never look back. Her latest offering, Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva, showcased the actor as the vengeful and dark character Junoon, who would go to any lengths for her master, Deva. While the film was panned by critics for its subpar plot, half-baked characters, and lacklustre dialogues, Roy received a lot of love.

In conversation with mid-day, the actor decodes her role as an antagonist, who garnered more mileage than Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt combined. “I have never had a reaction like this towards my work. It is gratifying [to see] the acceptance that the audience has given me,” begins Roy.

While confident in her performance, the actor was not without apprehensions, especially when Roy was required to converse in pure Hindi and wear “outlandish garb”. “I was extremely skeptical about talking in shudh Hindi and the whole look and feel of the character,” says the actor, who was unsure whether the audience would accept her character in a contemporary setup.

Accepting that movies have rarely explored strong female antagonist characters, Roy is thrilled that makers are “writing author-backed roles for women. This is a good time to be an actor.”

Crediting Mukerji for his vision for Junoon and for breaking down the role for her, she says she had to unlearn a lot of things before getting into character, “We didn’t want her to be caricaturish. Ayan was clear that Junoon had to have a quiet confidence without screaming or shouting. She had to evoke fear [by relying on] the power inside her. My character had to remember that everything that happened around her, did not matter, as long as she was connected with Brahmadev.”

Irrespective of how short or long the character is, Roy wanted to be part of projects where her “role added depth and served the story”. A lesson she has been honing since her television days. Having seen both the good and bad times in showbiz, and emerging strong, Roy is clear that, “There [has been] a period when [I was] not getting work or struggling to do the next thing, or feeling like [I have been] typecast because of TV. [At such times], you just have to wait it out and have faith. There is no shortcut to hard work.”

Brahmastra director Ayan Mukerji shot three separate climax sequences?

This hero can fight any villain in his way

Sources say Brahmastra director Ayan shot three separate climax sequences, one of which featured Hrithik as the antagonist; selected final cut this week after a special screening with leads Ranbir-Alia
Upala KBR (MID-DAY; September 8, 2022)

A hero’s true strength can only be understood when he is pitted against a worthy opponent. So, when you have an all-powerful superhero, it’s not easy to find a rival who will match him, strike for strike, blow for blow. That’s the dilemma Ayan Mukerji found himself in as he helmed Brahmastra: Part One —Shiva, which sees Ranbir Kapoor’s character Shiva having the superpower of being able to harness fire. mid-day has learnt that to deliver a fitting face-off in the final minutes of his ambitious film, Mukerji shot three separate climaxes with the leading man. One of them interestingly saw Kapoor take on Hrithik Roshan’s antagonist character, while the other two had him lock horns with other actors. So, which one has made it to the theatrical cut?

Mukerji had a special screening on Monday with leads Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and the film’s crew to zero in on the climax of their choice. A source reveals, “One of the reasons that the film has a high budget is because three endings were shot. While Mouni Roy and Saurav Gurjar play the key antagonists in search of the Brahmastra in the first part, Hrithik apparently has a fascinating cameo in the climax that impacts the narrative. Ayan shot a distinct portion with him, which shows his relationship with the Brahmastra — which is considered the most powerful astra of all. On Monday, the team saw their labour of love, complete with the three distinct endings. The team unanimously chose one for the final cut that is now making its way to the theatres.”

It is heard that the filmmaker has smartly chosen the ending that seamlessly paves the way for the second instalment of the trilogy. The source elaborates, “In his journey of discovering his superpower, Ranbir’s character unknowingly creates a new antagonist whose story will be taken further. The climax depicts that wonderfully, in a stunning sequence that sees a fight between the good and evil, the mortals and the immortals as they lay their claim on the astra. Heightened by special effects, it has turned out to be one of the grandest sequences in the film.”

Besides Roshan, the film has a much-awaited cameo by Shah Rukh Khan. His character, too, is believed to play a crucial role in Shiva’s journey. mid-day reached out to the producers and Mukerji regarding the different climaxes, but they remained unavailable for comment.

While I know every mom is a supermom, I am looking for mothers who can surprise you-Remo DSouza

‘Looking for mothers who surprise me’

With auditions for DID Supermoms kickstarting, judge Remo DSouza on his criteria for contestants
Letty Mariam Abraham (MID-DAY; May 3, 2022)

For the longest time, dance was not considered a viable career option, until Remo D’Souza changed the game, paving the way not only for himself but all those who followed. Despite a considerable body of work, it was Dance India Dance that put him on the map, and the rest is history. After 11 years, the choreographer-director has returned to the show with the latest season of Dance India Dance Li’l Masters along with Sonali Bendre and Mouni Roy. Even before the show reaches the finale, D’Souza has signed up to judge the third instalment of DID Supermoms.

“Seeing the response to Li’l Masters, we thought it was the right time to set in motion a season for Supermoms,” he says.

With auditions kickstarting soon, D’Souza is clear about the kind of contestants he hopes to discover for the show. “I am looking for the title phrase in each contestant. While I know every mom is a supermom, I am looking for mothers who can surprise you,” says the filmmaker.

While it is customary to rope in a technically sound professional to judge the show, most channels tend to rope in stars who will grab eyeballs. D’Souza believes that the panel should comprise experienced people who bring expertise to the table.

He says, “In any of the shows I have done, we’ve never roped in anyone for the sake of face [value]. The key is to have a balanced panel. For example, Mouni is a fantastic dancer, and Sonali is well-versed with expressions and performance.”

When asked if his manager-wife Lizelle has ever considered enrolling in supermoms, D’Souza chuckles, “Truth be told, I am scared of losing my supermom [laughs]. She used to dance, but stopped it  because she got busy with work and the kids. [Now], coming back after so many years is difficult. She stopped thinking about it as she lost interest and I stopped asking her.”

The ABCD director will soon begin work on his next. “Two scripts are ready and will go on the floors this year.”

Madhuri Dixit, Remo D’Souza, and Karan Johar sir were graceful during my season of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa-Mouni Roy

Rumours of Mouni Roy’s impending wedding with businessman Suraj Nambiar have been doing the rounds. The actress is likely to tie the knot on January 27 in Goa. However, known to be guarded about her personal life, this time, too, Mouni chooses to remain tight-lipped about it. In a chat with Bombay Times, she says, “I don’t like to talk about my personal life.”

While her lips are sealed about developments in her personal life, she is excited about the progress she is making on the professional front. Last seen in the film Velle, she is looking forward to the release of Brahmastra, which stars Amitabh Bachchan, Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor. She says, “I am working on interesting projects, and hopefully, they will be announced one after the other. I am looking forward to 2022.”

Interestingly, Mouni is also set to return to the small screen after five years as a judge on Dance India Dance Li’l Masters Season 5. The actress started her acting career with TV shows like Kyunki...Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev and catapulted to fame with the supernatural thriller, Naagin. Talking about her new role as a judge, she shares, “I am excited and nervous because this is my maiden outing as a judge on a reality show. When I was offered Dance India Dance Li’l Masters, the first thing that crossed my mind was how graceful Madhuri Dixit ma’am, Remo D’Souza sir, and Karan Johar sir were during my season of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. We would listen to them and follow their suggestions. So, I suddenly feel the responsibility, as I assume this new role and am
extremely grateful for this opportunity.”

Mouni insists that she hasn’t quit TV. “I am a very proud TV actor. I didn’t quit TV, but it was just a matter of commitment. As an actor, I aspire to play versatile characters. However, a project on TV translates into a commitment for a year or two. Now, that’s something I had alienated myself from for a while. But becoming a part of this show feels just right. I love dancing and kids. When an opportunity like that comes your way, you don’t ask questions… you take it up (smiles),” she concludes.

Mouni Roy to marry boyfriend Suraj Nambiar in January?

HINDUSTAN TIMES (October 2, 2021)

If rumours are to be believed, Mouni Roy will tie the knot with her Dubai-based banker and businessman beau, Suraj Nambiar, in January. According to a report in India Today, Roy’s cousin, Vidyut Roysarkar, gave confirmation to a local newspaper about the Naagin actor’s wedding.

The 36-year-old’s nuptials will reportedly take place in Dubai or Italy, as the couple wants to keep the celebration private. Later, they plan to host a function in Roy’s hometown, Cooch Behar, in West Bengal.

Apparently, Roy has been dating Nambiar since 2019 and they got closer during her stay in Dubai last year.

Nambiar and Roy celebrated her birthday together in Goa on September 29, and this was evident from the photos of the location they posted on their respective Instagram accounts. She had also posted a story of Nambiar that had a pup and wrote, “Both mine. I love you.”

In August 2020, a video of Roy playing basketball in Dubai, with Nambiar seemingly cheering her in the background gave a hint of their relationship. In March, her social media PDA with Nambiar set the rumour mills churning. After she shared a series of dance videos on Instagram, Nambiar reacted with a ‘rawrs’, while she called him ‘babubabu’.

Apparently, Roy’s mother met Nambiar’s parents at her good friend, Mandira Bedi’s home earlier this year.

Despite repeated attempts, Roy was unavailable for a comment.
