Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi actor Amar Upadhyay on his new-found popularity with his daily soap Molkki and bagging Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2
Letty Mariam Abraham (MID-DAY; August 31, 2021)
No matter how many roles he breathes life into, Amar Upadhyay continues to be synonymous with Mihir Virani, his much-loved character in Kyun Ki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. However, the actor claims he has got a new lease of life and a new fan base, thanks to his latest offering, Molkki. “Despite the onset of COVID and a dearth of job opportunities, I am fortunate to be working in a socially relevant show like Molkki.”
Upadhyay is thrilled that while his ardent fans continue to follow his work, Molkki has helped him to connect with a new section of the audience. “A lot of young children and people from all walks of life, who [probably] have not seen me in Kyunki... have started liking me, my personality, and performance,” says the actor.
Another reason why he holds the show close to his heart is because of its central theme. “The show has not only made a difference in my life, but has also affected villages that practice molkki [a practice of selling the daughter]. Sajjangarh, a village in Rajasthan, decided to eradicate the molkki pratha after watching the show. That is a radical change, and I am proud to be part of it.”
The actor has a big-ticket project in the Kartik Aaryan-starrer Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. “In Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, I am paired opposite Tabu and Kiara [Advani] plays my sister.”
With the horror-comedy, Upadhyay has fulfilled his long-cherished desire of collaborating with director Anees Bazmee. “The story has no connection with Bhool Bhulaiyaa [2007]. [The second instalment] revolves around a palace. Milind Gunaji plays my father while I essay the role of a prince [residing in] the castle.”

The actor has been shooting in Jodhpur for his turn as Sir Hugh Rose in an upcoming British-Indian co-production

Acclaimed British actor Rupert Everett arrived in Jodhpur last week to secretly start shooting for a Brit-American production based on Rani Laxmibai, Swords And Sceptres, which is directed by Swati Bhise.
The 58-year-old actor, who plays Sir Hugh Rose in the film, has been shooting with Arif Zakaria (featuring as Gaus Khan, Rani Laxmibai’s chief advisor-strategist who dies in the Battle of Jhansi alongside the Queen) for the last six days.
Expected to release in 2018, the period war-drama features a mix of Indian and British actors, including Derek Jacobi (Gladiator, The King’s Speech) as Lord Palmerston and Nathaniel Parker (The Outcast) as Sir Robert Hamilton, who also arrived in Rajasthan last week. Milind Gunaji (Virasat, Godmother) will be seen as the Maharaja of Jhansi, Gangadhar Rao, and award-winning Marathi actor Ajinkya Deo plays Tatya Tope, while Devika Bhise (The Man Who Knew Infinity) will appear in the titular role and Hollywood actress Jodhi May as Queen Victoria.
“The film will be shot for eight weeks in Jodhpur and Jaipur and there are extensive schedules planned with different members of the cast in London and Morocco,” a source close to the development told Mirror, adding that the grand Moroccan desert will double up as India in the film’s upcoming schedule. It was picked because the desert backdrops are a favourite with the international producers. Recently, it featured as Iraq in two war films – the Clint Eastwood-directed American Sniper and Alexandre Moors’ Yellow Birds. For The Night Manager featuring Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie, Morocco was shown as Egypt for six weeks.

Ashutosh Gowariker was set to wrap up the current schedule of his TV show Everest in Harsil, Uttrakhand and then head to Nepal. But unfortunately for him, his plans went for a six when nature played spoilsport.
After shooting in Mumbai the unit had moved to the hills up North. “They were hoping to wrap up the shoot there by this week. But a sudden snowfall in Harsil has delayed the schedule by at least a week to 10 days. The first unit is waiting in Nepal but the second unit is still stuck in Harsil,” reveals a source, close to the development.
After completing the Nepal schedule, the team will move to New Zealand in May. After the Kiwi schedule which may take upto 15 days, the crew will spend atleast another month or two in post-production. The show will only start airing after that. The date of telecast is yet to be finalised by the producer and the channel.
The show is about the conquest of the Mount Everest. It features new faces in the lead. and has seasoned actors like Milind Gunaji and Rajat Kapoor playing pivotal characters. The show has been conceptualised by Gowariker but is being directed by Glen and Ankush. AR Rahman is composing the show’s music.
