Manveer Gurjar denies being married; maternal uncle claims otherwise

...But relatives claim even Bigg Boss inmates were aware of his wedding
Abhimanyu Mathur & Shikha Salaria (BOMBAY TIMES; February 2, 2017)

Controversy seems to have found its way to Manveer Gurjar's address on the first day of his life as a celebrity. On the day the Bigg Boss winner reached his hometown Noida after winning the popular reality show, a video and some pictures of his alleged secret wedding started doing the rounds on social media. Various media reports quoted sources saying that contrary to what he had claimed on Bigg Boss, Manveer has been married for a few years and even has a daughter from that marriage. While he has denied the authenticity of the claims, some of his family members have lent weight to the allegations, saying that he is indeed married and even the makers of the show were aware of it.

I AM NOT MARRIED: MANVEER
In a video posted on YouTube two days ago, Manveer can be seen dressed in a white sherwani and a red pagdi, the traditional wedding attire for a groom. The video shows him with a his mother Mala Devi before the ghud-chadhi ceremony, while the song Chote Chote Bhaiyyon Ke Bade Bhaiyya can be heard in the background. Some pictures of his 'wife' have also been shared by multiple sources on Twitter. Manveer calls the controversy a needless publicity gimmick. He says, “I am not married. Shaadi jaisi cheez aise chhup nahi sakti. I have been in the Bigg Boss House since October. Ab tak kisi ne to issue raise kiya hi hota. This has just been done by someone for cheap publicity and nothing else.“

HE HAS BEEN MARRIED FOR THREE YEARS: RELATIVES
Despite Manveer's insistence that he has never been married, some of his own relatives have said that not only is he married, but the fact was known to most people in the Bigg Boss house, including the host Salman Khan. Manveer's maternal uncle Karan Singh Nagar, says, “He was married three years ago. He also has a one-and-a-half-year-old daughter named Aashi. He never hid the fact on the show.“

“He had shared it with Lopamudra Raut, Manu Punjabi and even Nitibha Kaul, who was trying to get close to him. Salman bhai, too, was told about it. There were too many intelligent people there. How did a common man rise amid them?“ he asks.

Suresh, who is married to Manveer's cousin, says that the marriage was hidden from the public eye for a reason. “If he had revealed his marriage, would so many girls vote for him?“ she asks.

IT IS JUST A PLOY TO MALIGN HIM: BROTHER
Manveer's brother Sachin calls the entire episode a ploy to malign Manveer's good image. He tells us, “Manveer has the image of a grounded and humble person. Throughout the show, he has been like that. He has been in the public eye for four months now. If he was married, why did nobody come and claim that till now? Doing this now when he has won and is being loved by all means it's just someone who is jealous of his achievement. They are just trying to malign him for some cheap publicity.“

Responding to his own relatives' claims about Manveer's wedding, Sachin says, “I don't know why they have said all this. Manveer and I will speak to them about this. Maybe they were confused. We will need to see what exactly they said and then talk to them about it. The fact remains that the claims are false.“

I was all heart, I would have been eliminated if I had played with my brains-Manveer Gurjar

Neha Maheshwri (BOMBAY TIMES; January 31, 2017)

Manveer Gurjar proved the power of the common man when he defeated celebrity contestants Bani Judge and Lopamudra Raut to win Bigg Boss Season 10. Soon after lifting the trophy, the 29-year-old from Noida (Uttar Pradesh), who won fans over with his honesty and candour, chatted with BT about victory, his overnight celebrity status and matters of the heart...

You have lost a lot of weight...
Weight lose kiya hai, daadhi bhi chaar-paanch kilo lose kee hai. I am going to eat less to maintain this body. I used to hate eating rice, but I have had so much of it inside the house, I think I can live on it now.

You are a star now. Has the reality sunk in yet?
Now that you guys are calling me that, I have started to feel like one. But at heart, I'm an India wala.

Your friend and fellow contestant Manu Punjabi claimed that he had sacrificed captaincy on several occasions to make you the house captain...
While Priyanka Jagga and Manu opened up very soon, I was a little subdued, which may have made people assume that I was arrogant and crude. It won't be right of me to point fingers at a friend. When it came to captaincy tasks, I never depended on anyone for winning. I don't want to say anything more.

Does it feel bad to know that he had said so?
There's no question of feeling bad or good. If he thinks he's helped me a lot, then that must be so and I thank him for it.

So, you are saying that he is responsible for your win?
He has definitely contributed to my journey in Bigg Boss. He's my brother. While I won individual tasks on my own, he definitely supported me during team tasks.

You said you didn't open up very soon. Was it a strategy to hold your cards close to the chest?
Firstly, the commoners were fighting among themselves and kept shifting loyalties. Hamari toh khud ki ladai khatam nahi ho rahi thi. They maintained a distance during the first week probably because of my looks. I got my act together only after Salman Khan pulled me up in the second week. Some inmates spoke ill about my community as well. But once I got the hang of it, I was on my own. I haven't supported anyone beyond a point, nor am I standing here because of anyone's support. I was my real self on the show. I was all heart, I would have been eliminated if I had played with my brains.

Did you fear Bani would win the show, given her fan following?
I think Bani was repetitive on the show, while I had something new to offer everyday and was more involved in the tasks. There were days when I hadn't even taken a bath. I would have voted for Bani if I were a viewer, but since I was inside the house, I wanted people to vote for me. We don't have many girls like Bani in India, who have abs and tattoos. She is an inspiration to many.

Fellow inmate Nitibha (Kaul) has said that there is a spark between the two of you and that you like her...
It's only friendship. She is scatter-brained. She would react to anything after two days. She wanted to be praised and I did so whenever it was needed. However, if she had wanted me to count her among the top 5, I wouldn't have been able to lie. So yes, beyond fondness and liking for her, I can't say if there's anything more.

So, you are not attracted to her?
How can I say that so soon? We haven't even met casually outside. Let us sit, eat and hang out. That house is such that if you are made to stay for long, a man can fall in love with another man. I hope she is different outside the house; I am just the same as I was inside it. I will pull her up if she does wrong and will appreciate when she is right.

Has your stay in the house taught you to control your temper?
I have mellowed down to a great extent, but I still get irritated at times. I was angry when they cut my hair for the finale episode. That's in my blood, I guess. But, yes, I have learnt how to control it; hit the gym, take a dip in the pool or do dishes.

Does that mean that you'll be spending more time in the kitchen at home, doing dishes?
Yes, I can do it, but why at home? Main kahiin aisi jagah jaunga jahaan bhandaara wagerah ho raha ho kyunki wahaan zyada (help) lagega.

What next?
I have not thought anything yet, I'm just fresh out of the show. I'll see if I get any offers. Work wise, I'm not too good with scripts. If anyone gives me a script, I'll fumble while reading it. So, fiction may be out of my league. But I am game for another reality show. But again, after this experience, where I lost so much weight, I don't know how another one will go. I'll only do stuff that is interesting. I won't run around for work.

Common man from Haryana Manveer Gurjar pips Bani J; wins Bigg Boss 10

Natasha Coutinho (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 30, 2017)

Manveer Gurjar is still in a daze, minutes after nudging out crowd favourite Bani Judge to win season 10 of the reality show Bigg Boss. When you congratulate him, the common man from Haryana congratulates you right back, admitting that his 105-day stay in the house has definitely changed him. “I used to be really short-tempered earlier, but now I've become so patient that even if anyone were to slap me, I would not retaliate,“ asserts the new Gandhian.

For him, the opportunity of being on television for over three months is a bigger reward than any prize money. And being in the spotlight has opened the window to a whole new world. “If I get acting offers, I will take them up,“ he says hopefully, adding that he was always confident of winning but didn't reveal this, aware that the former Roadie, who gave him a tough fight till the last, was really popular. “I just tried to stay cool, held fast to my sanskaar, and made headway with the tasks.“

Now, that they are out of their self-imposed imprisonment, what will happen to his bromance with Manu Punjabi? “He will remain my friend till the end of the world. But for now, I'm looking forward to going back home to my mother's kadhi-chawal. My only complaint against Bigg Boss was that he never fed us well,“ he laughs good-naturedly.

Bigg Boss 10 finale: Salman Khan to dance with contests; Hrithik Roshan to be special guest?

Natasha Coutinho (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 28, 2017)

Salman Khan is gearing up for the grand finale of his reality TV show, Bigg Boss, with the final four contestants, Bani Judge, Manveer Gurjar, Lopamudra Raut and Manu Punjabi.

The show’s charismatic host will perform with all the evicted contestants of season 10, everyone except Swami Om and Priyanka Jagga who made an acrimonious and unceremonious exit from the house. The wild cards won’t be back either.

“He will shake a leg with Lokesh Kumari, Nithiba Kaul, Navin Prakash, Rohan Mehra, Gaurav Chopra, Akansha Sharma, Karan Mehra, Rahul Dev and Mona Lisa. Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan were to be the special guests but there’s been a change of plan and Hrithik Roshan has stepped in for Badrinath and his dulhania now,” informs a source.

Vikrant Singh & I were already like husband and wife-Monalisa

Monalisa got married to boyfriend Vikrant on Bigg Boss last week responds to questions on her marriage
Chaya Unnikrishnan (DNA; January 23, 2017)

Nobody, thought she would last in the Bigg Boss house for so long. Even her beau and now, husband Vikrant Singh had predicted that she will be out within two weeks. But Bhojpuri actress Monalisa defied all the naysayers and was part of the show till one week before the finale. She may not have made it to the finale, but she’s the one who has had the cake and the icing on it. Mona who was single when she went inside the house, has come out as married woman! She and Vikrant got hitched inside the house. Here the new bride talks about her marriage, her much talked-about friendship with Manu Punjabi, and her future plans.

Married and evicted in the same week! What are your feelings right now?
Honestly, I was thinking that immediately after marriage, meri bidaai ho jayegi! But I got to stay three more days. I am happy because I wanted to come out of the house. I used to be always upset inside the house.

Are you happy that you got married inside the house on national TV?
Vikrant and I were anyway thinking about getting married. I am from Kolkata, he is from UP and both of us are part of the Bhojpuri film industry. So, we had to take into consideration all the three places — where to get married and hold the reception. Yet, I never thought I will get married like this! I was overwhelmed when Vikrant proposed to me. He decided everything in consultation with my parents.

This is the second marriage in the house. The first one between Sara Khan and Ali Merchant did not last...
(Cuts in) We have been with each other for so many years that we were already like husband and wife. Sirf social stamp nahi tha. So, it’s (getting married in the house) not going to make any difference. We will always be together.

There was talk of your close friendship with Manu...
I felt bad about that. When you are staying in a house 24/7, you need to talk to somebody to survive. And some people you get closer to more than the others. I am a fun-loving girl by nature, and so is Manu. Masti mazaak nahi karenge toh rahenge kaise? Moreover, we were both sorted. At the beginning itself, he told me about his fiance and I told him about Vikrant.

Will you both remain friends?
Now, I am out and I will be busy with the shoot of my pending films and when Manu will come out, he too will get busy with his work. When you are inside the house 24/7, you have to talk, but that cannot always be maintained out of the house.

Manu commented about you getting close to Gaurav Chopra during the jacuzzi task...
I don’t know how the talk between Gaurav and me started. Actually, whenever we used to talk, it would be about Bani or about the Bhojpuri film industry. Bani was close to him.

Bani too said you were close to Manveer...
It was shocking — to hear her saying such things about me. In the first week, she told me that she was committed to someone and I told her about my relationship. I never commented on her closeness with Gaurav or Jason (Shah). I felt bad that she said that about me.

Will you take a break from films?
I have a lot of pending films to complete and new ones are also lined up. Immediately after getting married, ek alag sa feeling aa gaya tha, but I love acting and dancing and soon I will be back to doing that (smiles).
