World knew him as Dev Anand’s son. I knew him as Suneil sir, says Chargesheet actor Anish Vikramaditya

Actor-filmmaker Suneil Anand, who passed away on July 26 at the age of 70 following a heart attack in London, leaves behind not just the legacy of being Dev Anand’s son, but also memories of a man who was remembered for his humility and compassion. Actor Anish Vikramaditya, who shared an 18-year friendship with Suneil Anand, said, “The world knew him as Dev Anand’s son. I knew him as Suneil sir.”
The two first met in 2008 during the making of Dev Anand’s film Chargesheet, where Anish played the hero.
He shared, “There was absolutely no trace of arrogance despite belonging to one of Indian cinema’s most respected families. Suniel sir treated everyone — from technicians to senior industry personalities — with the same respect.”
Anish also credits Suneil with giving him an identity that remains one of the proudest moments of his career. “It was during Chargesheet that he suggested the screen name ‘Anish Vikramaditya’ for me, and Dev Sahab approved it. That remains one of the greatest honours of my life.”
Their last conversation took place on June 30, when Suneil spoke enthusiastically about his upcoming film Vagator Mixer. “‘I am just completing it and I am coming back. I have made a great film,’ he told me. We didn’t speak after that,” said Anish.
According to Anish, Suneil’s greatest quality was his integrity. “I personally saw influential people make him lucrative offers, but if something went against his principles, he simply refused. No amount of money or influence could make him compromise his values.”
One of Anish’s most cherished memories is watching Suneil care for his father, during the Chargesheet schedule in Mahabaleshwar. “He personally ensured Dev Sahab took his medicines on time and looked after every small detail himself. Those responsibilities could have been delegated, but he did everything out of love.”
The last photograph they took together has now become one of Anish’s most treasured possessions. “Outside his Pali Hill residence, beside the Padma Bhushan Dev Anand Road sign, I requested Suneil sir for the photographs, as we were standing beside the Padma Bhushan Dev Anand Road sign, which was very meaningful to both of us. With his characteristic warmth, he kindly took my phone and clicked a few individual photographs of me before we took our selfie together. I never imagined it would become our last photograph.”

Actor Supriya Pathak has been on repose for the last couple of days. Her daughter, actor Sanah Kapur, married actor Mayank Pahwa in an intimate ceremony in Mahabaleshwar last week. And while it was a “small event”, Supriya and her husband, actor Pankaj Kapur “were geared up to make it memorable for the guests”. “I don’t think it has sunk in yet,” says Supriya, as she talks about her daughter’s marriage.
The photos from the wedding have been doing the rounds on social media and one featuring Surpiya, Pankaj, and actor-couple Ratna Pathak Shah (Supriya’s sister) and Naseeruddin Shah caught everyone’s attention. In fact, a Twitter user commented, ‘Somebody cast them together in a film please.’ Mention this to her and Supriya quips, “Somebody listen to them (laughs). If someone wants to make a film, we have all the actors in the family. Even my younger son is making his debut.”
Ask her what it’s like when all the veterans are under one roof and she says, “Pagalpan. It’s crazy. We don’t talk about work, as we have a lot to talk about.”
Talking about how the wedding ceremony of her daughter unfolded, she shares, “Sanah looked like a fairy. When she walked down [the aisle] with her father, they played a beautiful song (the Punjabi folk track, Madhaniya). It was an emotional moment. I cried for quite a bit. But then, I was elated when they spoke the vows.”
On a parting note, the Khichdi actor calls actors Manoj and Seema Pahwa (the groom’s parents) “family” and adds, “We have known each other for centuries. Mayank is like my son.”

Director Kushan Nandy on why he chose to kick off Kun Faya Kun instead of resuming work on Nawazuddin Siddiqui-starrer Jogira Sara Ra Ra

Yesterday, director Kushan Nandy kicked off the shoot of Kun Faya Kun — featuring Harshvardhan Rane and Sanjeeda Shaikh — in Mahabaleshwar. The move left many wondering about the fate of his Nawazuddin Siddiqui-starrer Jogira Sara Ra Ra. After all, the actor-director duo had shot the rom-com for three days in Lucknow in March before the pandemic threw a wrench in their plans.
Ask him if he has put the Siddiqui-starrer on the backburner, and Nandy clarifies, "Kun Faya Kun is being filmed in a start-to-finish 35-day schedule. So, I will be done with the movie by the second week of December. It doesn't have too many songs. So, we decided to shoot this before as it's a quickie. Then, I can head to the pre-production of Jogira. That way, I will have two releases next year."
Come 2021, Nandy will revisit the universe of Jogira Sara Ra Ra with Siddiqui. The duo had previously collaborated on Babumoshai Bandookbaaz. "Nawaz is like an elder brother to me; he knows we are starting Kun Faya Kun. After coordinating the dates of the entire cast of Jogira, we have finally decided to roll from February 1," adds the director.
Shilpa Shukla in Ajay Bahl-Prakash Jha's Parivar Time

After exploring her dark side in Ajay Bahl’s critically-acclaimed noir drama BA Pass, for which she won the Critics Choice Filmfare award for Best Actress, Shilpa Shukla has now been signed by Prakash Jha for a comedy that he is producing. The film is tentatively titled Parivar Time and is set in Mahabaleshwar. A source from the sets describes it as a “crazy caper” revolving around a dysfunctional family.
It will be directed by Ritesh Menon, who had previously dabbled in documentaries. He was also the associate director on several projects helmed by Santosh Sivan. Parivar Time is expected to hit the theatres in November.
Lyricist Swanand Kirkire will also be making a full-fledged acting debut with this film. He plays Shilpa's brother who is constantly at loggerheads with her.
Revealed the source, “It’s a quirky, situational comedy about a Punjabi family who live in Mahabaleshwar. Shilpa plays a wannabe with a tendency to overdramatises everything that she does.”
Shilpa confirmed the news saying, “It’s a refreshing change for me. I’ve always wanted to explore comedy as a genre but I was mostly approached for serious roles. Now, I can finally experiment with one.”
Meanwhile, Jha is contesting the Lok Sabha elections from the Bettiah constituency in Bihar. But despite his hectic schedule, he is supervising this project.
