M S DHONI - THE UNTOLD STORY is finding it tough going on the weekdays with another noticeable drop on Tuesday. The film looked set to be a huge hit with its weekend collections but since Monday the collections are coming down fast. It should scrape through to HIT status due to a weak line up of releases. After the weekend it looked set to be close to 100 crore nett in seven days but now the way it is going it may not even reach there in 10 days. The collections in the North are now actually down to poor levels which will make it tough in the North in week two and that will tell in all India collections as Mumbai comes down in week two anyway compared to circuits in North and Central India. The first week of the film will be around 84-85 crore nett but the film really has to settle at some point either today or tomorrow where the drop is minimal as Friday will see a drop as there will be MIRZYA and a copule of other films fighting for screen space.

M S DHONI - THE UNTOLD STORY (Hindi) has had a good first week at 84.75 crore nett but its down to the strong weekend which was over 61 crore nett. The collections had a noticeable drop on Monday but they were still healthy at 7.50 crore nett but the problem came after as the film could just not hold on any of the other weekdays which is likely to tell on its second weekend collections. The film also had a Tamil and Telugu version which grossed around 5 crore nett over the first week which is decent considering that it is more than the lifetime business of PREM RATAN DHAN PAYO and HAPPY NEW YEAR in the same formats.

The Dhoni brand and cricket factor has helped the film immensely in the South as its an out performing market especially Mysore which should not be the case for a film about a boy from the interiors of the country. Even West Bengal is similar as the Dhoni brand and cricket factor helped it put up good collections. The problem for the film has come in North where East Punjab is at a similar level to Mysore and when that happens to a film which is not based in South India then it means the potential of the film is unlikely to be unfulfilled. The collections in Delhi/UP are also not that good comparatively though Mumbai circuit has done well.

Basically the film has gone through due to the initial which came due to curiosity for the Dhoni story and a good theatrical promo but the film has turned out to be not as good as the audience expected after the theatrical and appreciation for the film is limited. It remains to be seen where the film goes as far as its lifetime business is concerned and the business today (Day 8) will probably answer that.

M S DHONI - THE UNTOLD STORY dropped around 65% on Monday but still the collections were fairly good at 7 crore nett plus. The total so far is 68.75 crore nett which again is very healthy. The problem is this big drop in collections. Even a market like Delhi/UP which holds up well on Monday has shown a considerable fall though that could be due to the film not really getting the numbers over the weekend in the North as it did in other markets. It is just not North but the drops are there in all the markets. The Tamil and Telugu version has also had a huge drop. The film really has to hold well on Tuesday because if was to fall 15-20% it would really start to struggle and then emerge just a weekend film. The first week is looking to close at 84 crore nett although if Tuesday can really hold it can go higher. The next few days and crucially the eight day will determine the lifetime business. It should comfortably cross 100 crore nett but it looked like getting a much higher total after the weekend.

M S DHONI - THE UNTOLD STORY has scored a fantastic first weekend grossing around 62 crore nett in its Hindi format over the first weekend. There was a Tamil and Telugu version of the film which has grossed around 3.75 crore nett which is also pretty decent and better than films like HAPPY NEW YEAR and PREM RATAN DHAN PAYO. The collections of the film are excellent all over over barring North India. In North India the film has done good business but has not performed as well as it has in other parts of the country. Comparing with other films, the weekend is in the same range as films like BANG BANG (Holiday release) and YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI. It is also a bit unlucky that the huge Gandhi Jayanti holiday fell on Sunday which gave a minimal boost as Sunday is a holiday anyway. The weekend ensures a HIT film despite high costs and the next few days will tell how big of a hit the film can be and whether the industry gets the second BLOCKBUSTER of the year. The trend of the film is better than the weekend numbers suggest as the film did have capacity constraints at major multiplexes due to the length of the film. So although there is not much growth over the weekend the film has recorded high occupancy rates which should mean that the film will hold on the weekdays. 

M S DHONI - THE UNTOLD STORY had another excellent day as it collected close to 19 crore nett for its Hindi version. There is a drop from day one but it is minor and would only be an issue if the film had lower collections. The film is doing very well across India and is already a HIT film with potential to go higher. The weekend of the film is on course to beat films like HOUSEFULL 3 and RUSTOM by a big margin. The very earthy and Indian feel of the theatrical did give the film the potential to be the TANU WEDS MANU RETURNS of the year and it may happen depending on what the weekdays bring. That film was driven by North India as it was set there, here it will be other circuits driving the film. Obviously the profits will not be like TANU WEDS MANU RETURNS due to high costs here but like that film it can be a big grosser without face value which happens rarely.
