Anupam Kher, who’s currently in New York filming New Amsterdam, got a pleasant surprise. Lucy Liu, best known for the Charlie’s Angels and Kill Bill films, was roped in to direct the 11th episode of the second season of the TV show. “We have a different director for each episode and learnt that Lucy Liu was on board just a week before she joined us. We met as actors, and along with the team, did a full reading session before we started shooting,” informs the actor. Lucy’s first directorial, a documentary titled Meena on sex trafficking in India, premiered in New York in 2014.

Talking about the experience of working with the Chicago actress as a director, Anupam says Lucy understands the actor’s point of view, is respectful and considerate towards others, and has great command over her craft. “I told her I’d love to work with her again and she shared the sentiment. That’s a huge compliment for me,” he exults.

Interestingly, some of the previous episodes were helmed by Michael Slovis, known for shows like Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones. “I feel I’m lucky to work in a series that introduces us to such amazing directors, like Michael Slovis and Lucy Liu,” Anupam signs off.
