THE NUN did well in the first week with business over 38 crore nett which is the best for the franchise beating the figures of THE CONJURING 2 and ANNABELLE: CREATION though the weekday holds were not too strong. The film is a success due to the big first week but will not hold too well.

In fact these types do not hold that well but the first two CONJURING films were an exception especially THE CONJURING 2 which held at good levels for weeks. The second Friday will tell where the film is going but 50 crore nett looks the best case scenario for the film and even that is difficult. It will probably end up being the second best grosser of the franchise after THE CONJURING 2 which did 62 crore nett.

PALTAN had a poor first week of 7 crore nett and is out of most theatres in the second week. Just to put into perspective how low the figures are is that BORDER did 6.25 crore nett in week one and it could do not do much more as this was almost capacity and this was 1997. LOC KARGIL which did not do well at the box office also did 10.50 crore nett plus in 2003.

LAILA MAJNU is very dull with first week business of 2.35 crore nett and even this film will not even do half the business of the film with the same name released in 1976. Aand this was when the Average Ticket Price was 98% less than today.

THE NUN was steady on Tuesday after the drop on Monday but this is mainly because some theaters were shut on Monday. The week is heading to 38 crore nett which is the highest first week of the franchise but it looks hard for the film after the first week. The first five day figures of THE NUN are as follows.

THE NUN dropped on Monday as it grossed 3 crore nett. There many theaters which were shut across the country due to a bandh and it remains to be seen how much it affected the film. The film is still a success due to the solid weekend and the first week should be able to cross 40 crore nett.

THE NUN had a good weekend grossing around 28 crore nett in its first weekend. The collections were flat on Sunday as the film does not have a big family audience. The collections are by far the biggest for the franchise as the best film THE CONJURING 2 had grossed 35.50 crore nett for the whole week and this is going to easily surpass that by a margin.

THE NUN is doing well at the box office as it collected 10 crore nett on its second day to take its total to to 18 crore nett. The growth was around 25% but that is okay for an Adults horror film. The film is going to have good weekend and then it remains to be seen how close it can get to biggest film in the franchise THE CONJURING 2.

PALTAN went up by around 40% which is decent but the numbers are so low and even second day has failed to reach two crore nett.

LAILA MAJNU is a huge disaster as collections remain very low. The growth is similar to PALTAN but that film is a wider release and doing higher numbers so at least the growth can be called respectable there.

THE NUN has scored at the box office with collections of 7.75 crore nett apprx on day one. This is easily the highest number for a Hollywood horror film and the second highest number ever in India for a horror film after RAAZ 3. This franchise has good brand value in India and all the films have returned good numbers. The opening day numbers of this franchise are as follows.

THE NUN has easily opened the best in the franchise but it was THE CONJURING 2 which had emerged a blockbuster film a few years back with business of over 62 crore nett. THE CONJURING had opened to just 60 lakhs nett but eventually went to 17.50 crore nett as it sustained very strongly over weeks.

The new Hindi releases PALTAN, LAILA MAJNU and GALI GULEIYAN had very low collections with PALTAN being the best of the lot.

PALTAN is directed by J.P Dutta who has epic films behind him like GHULAMI, BORDER and others but obviously the same magic is not there anymore. PALTAN has grossed around 1.15-1.25 crore nett on day one. This collection is in the same range as the MEGA BLOCKBUSTER BORDER released way back in 1997 which grossed 1.12 crore nett. BORDER smashed all initial records at the box office but PALTAN will be doing nothing at the box office.

LAILA MAJNU grossed a very poor 30 lakhs nett and is going nowhere. The audience has an image of LAILA MAJNU in their mind and the trailer of this film hardly matched the image. There was a film of the same name released in 1976 which was a BLOCKBUSTER and the lifetime business of this LAILA MAJNU will remain well short of the 1976 film and we don't mean adjusted collections but non adjusted figures.

GALI GULEIYAN was not fit for a theatrical release so should not have been released but was and the collections will hardly be 5 lakhs nett.
