JIGRA had a dull second week with collections being only 6.50 crore nett which takes the film to almost 28 crore nett. The drop in the second week is 70% and this is without any competition. Also, it is a film which is targeted to a niche audience and should at least be holding better than a film like VICKY VIDYA KA WOH WALA VIDEO
The year has been littered with so many films just targeting the the handful of bigger centers and this includes bigger films like MAIDAAN and KHEL KHEL MEIN. JIGRA is just another addition to the list as these films go heavily wrong in either treatment or characterization or both.
The film has scored better in overseas as its looking like a $3 million finish which is 25 crore as here the star factor has worked better than it has in India. A market like UK will do similar numbers to a film like SHAITAAN and BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN, which released on Eid, a very good period in UK. The Gulf numbers are also pretty good but the film should have scored better in US since its a film for the gentry and niche audience.

JIGRA collected 4.25 crore nett in its second weekend which is a drop of 70% plus from the first weekend. The film now stands at 26 crore nett and will remain less than 30 crore nett by the end of the second week. The film remained better in Mumbai city, Pune and Bangalore in the second weekend but these centers should be much higher. The film will close at around 32-33 crore nett.

JIGRA collected poorly in the first week and the trend was poor as well because the drops continued on the weekdays. The film is mainly for metros and after the Monday drop, it should have held if that target audience had given even some support. The first week is around 22 crore nett which is 10% less than VICKY VIDYA KA WOH WALA VIDEO and that is a smaller film.
JIGRA has expectations mainly due to the presence of Alia Bhatt but it was always going to ne a tough ride as the trailer did not make much impact. Then checking the director filmography whose last film was some film called MONICA O MY DARLING which did not release in cinemas but just the trailer is so bad that you can write with almost 100% confident it would have been a sure shot disaster.
The penny has to drop in the film industry that directors who give a treatment in this way and tell stories like this will rarely give box office collections. Its another matter that the film has enough revenue from digital and satellite to cover the budget. But eventually, its about box office and the content has been rejected. The whole batch of those European directors pre pandemic have sort of been flushed out and the last thing this film industry needs is another batch as it will mean curtains down especially if the stars align. Today every story must have a feel and treatment which gives it the widest reach possible and with this all genres can work.

JIGRA dropped further on day eight as it collected 1 crore nett despite having no new release for competition. The film has now collected a little over 23 crore nett and from here it may even be a struggle to reach 35 crore nett as practically nothing will come post week three. The film should show strong growth on Saturday as a huge ratio of business is coming from multiplexes which jump on Saturday.
