Akshay Kumar shares an intimate connection with Shiva, one that has only grown deeper over the years. The actor, who recently starred in and lent his voice to the devotional song, Shambhu, can’t help but feel emotional when he speaks to us on Mahashivratri today.

“The connection I have with Shiva has strengthened further since I lost my mother. He calms my soul and makes me feel that with loss, there’s always a new life,” says the actor, who played Shiva’s messenger in the 2023 film OMG 2.

He tells us, “The film came to me at the right time. Through it, I got comfort and strength when I didn’t even know I needed it. Now, I wake up and listen to his songs during my workout every day. I feel his strength and resilience. I trust the next chapter of my life because I know the author is going to be Shiva.”

In fact, not many know that the 56-year-old has started signing off his messages and posts with ‘Jai Mahakal’. Ask what drove him to do that, and Kumar shares, “I picked it up in Mahadev Ki Nagri, Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh), which I visited for the shoot of OMG 2. Everybody was greeting each other with ‘Jai Mahakal, Har Har Mahadev’, and no greeting ever went unanswered. After all, Mahadev is everything, and eventually everything unites with him.”

The actor, who is looking forward to the release of his next big film, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, hopes to witness the grandeur of Mahashivratri celebrations some day. “I haven’t had the chance to do that yet, but I’d love to. I did visit the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain last year to ring in my birthday, and got to witness the Bhasma Aarti. The whole atmosphere was soul-stirring. I’ll never forget it.”

As the three Khans — SRK, Salman and Aamir — performed Naatu Naatu from RRR, the Bollywood actor looked for Charan to join them. “Where are you, Ram Charan? “Idli vada Ram charan kahan hai tu?” he asked. Referring to this incident, Zaidi wrote, “I walked out after this. So disrespectful towards a star like Ram Charan.”

The internet wasn’t pleased either. One user tweeted, “Shah Rukh Khan is being racist to South Indians after a South Indian director gave him the biggest hit of his career.”

Her first-ever performance in India, and her first concert in eight years, was absolutely Diamonds-worthy. Rihanna set the stage on fire as she took to the stage for Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s pre-wedding festivities in Jamnagar, Gujarat.

Belting out chart toppers Wild Things, and Only Girl (In the World), among others, the Barbadian singer ensured that she ate and left no crumbs. Spotted enjoying her performance in the star-studded crowd were actors Ranveer Singh and Varun Dhawan, who shook a leg in a video doing the rounds. Janhvi Kapoor in fact got the international icon to shake a leg on Zingaat from her film Dhadak (2018).

The best part of the evening was, however, reserved by the Lift Me Up and Born Again singer for the paparazzi and police forces at the airport as she departed after her performance.

She stepped out of her car and graciously addressed the paps, “I love India, the show was the best. I haven’t done a Ro show in eight year, I wanna be back.”

She also obliged them with selfies and pictures with a couple of them — even asking her security to back off! Later, the 36-year-old hugged a police personnel, and posed with all of them.

Rajkumar Santoshi granted bail in cheque-bounce case

Rajkumar Santoshi granted bail in cheque-bounce case

HINDUSTAN TIMES (February 20, 2024)

Rajkumar Santoshi’s lawyer Binesh Patel has confirmed that the filmmaker has been granted bail in the cheque-bouncing case and that the court has postponed the judgement for the next 30 days.

During a hearing in the case on Saturday, the court ordered a two-year jail sentence for Santoshi while asking him to repay double the amount that he allegedly owes to a businessman, who claims that the cheques issued to him by the filmmaker bounced. The Jamnagar court in Gujarat has allowed Santoshi a 30-day stay to appeal against the order. It will allow Santoshi to challenge the verdict in a higher court.

In the same context, the filmmaker’s advocate Patel stated that they will appeal against the magisterial court’s judgement. As per a statement from him, “The court has stayed its judgement for 30 days and granted Mr Santoshi bail after we sought time to appeal against the judgement at a higher forum.”

Patel added, “The prosecution didn’t produce any documentary evidence to prove that Mr Santoshi had taken money at all. Instead, a third party had provided 11 altered cheques of Rs. 10 lakh each, which Mr Santoshi was not aware of.”

The director, who has helmed films such as Damini (1993), Ghatak: Lethal (1996) and Andaz Apna Apna (1994), is currently working on his next with actor Sunny Deol, produced by actor Aamir Khan.

Rajkumar Santoshi returns after 9 years with Gandhi - Godse Ek Yudh

THE TIMES OF INDIA (February 18, 2024)

Rajkot: A Jamnagar court on Saturday sentenced film producer and director Rajkumar Santoshi to two years’ simple imprisonment in a seven-year-old cheque bounce case lodged by a businessman. The director of Bollywood hits like Ghayal, Damini, Andaz Apna Apna and Khakee was also asked to pay Rs 2 crore to the petitioner, double the amount borrowed from him.

His upcoming film 'Lahore 1947', featuring Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta, is being produced by Aamir Khan Productions.

Rajkumar Santoshi was sentenced to 2 years imprisonment and fined Rs 2 crore under the Negotiable Instruments Act for bouncing cheques worth Rs 1.10 crore. The cheques were given to Ashok Lal, a businessman in the shipping industry, as a loan for movie production. Lal filed a civil suit after Santoshi failed to repay the money.

Rajkumar Santoshi appears in court in cheque bounce case

Filmmaker ordered to pay Rs 15,000 for every dishonoured cheque to a friend who had lent him Rs 1 crore in 2015
MUMBAI MIRROR (April 12, 2019)

Filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi made an appearance in a Jamnagar court on Wednesday over a cheque bounce case filed against him by Jamnagar based businessman, Ashok Lal, who had also contested Assembly polls on a Congress ticket in 2017.

Lal’s advocate, Piyush Bhojani, said that his client and Santoshi were close friends and that in 2015, Lal lent Rs 1 crore to Santoshi to produce a film. To pay back, the latter issued 10 cheques of Rs 10 lakh each which were dishonoured by the bank in December 2016. When a follow-up with Santoshi did not yield results, Lal filed a plea in the court under Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.

Bhavin Bhojani, another lawyer on the case, said the suit was initially shifted to Mumbai as, under the prevalent notification, a case should be filed in the city where the dishonouring branch of the bank is located. However, a new notification issued by the government of India in September last year allowed filing of the suit in Jamnagar.

In the following 18 months, Santoshi failed to appear in court despite several summons, turning up only on April 10 after the court issued a bailable warrant. According to the lawyers, the court has ordered Santoshi to pay their client Rs 15,000 for each of the dishonoured cheques. The next hearing of the case will be on May 23. Earlier, a Rajkotbased producer had filed a similar case against Santoshi.

Both Omung Kumar and Ashutosh Gowariker making films on the Maharaja of Jamnagar?

Natasha Coutinho (MUMBAI MIRROR; August 22, 2017)

Omung Kumar and Ashutosh Gowariker find themselves in a bit of an unmitigated face-off. Mirror has learnt that the National Award-winning filmmakers are both gearing up to bring the real life story of Maharaja Jam Sahib Digvijaysinhji Ranjitsinhji on screen. The ruler of Nawanagar, a princely state in British India, had rescued hundreds of abandoned Polish children by providing them with shelter during World War II.

Omung revealed to Mirror that work on his film has been on for a year now and Sanjay Dutt is already onboard to play the title role. “We plan to shoot in Poland, India and across continents. The story idea came from Sanjay and Vikas Verma, who is also a part of the film. I will be leaving for Poland in two months for recce. We are tracing the entire journey, from Poland to Mumbai and finally Gujarat, so the film will take a while to shoot,” Omung said, adding that he and his team had met government officials in Poland on their last visit as the film had been in the works even before his upcoming film Bhoomi happened. “It took so much time to get the film off the ground because it is being shot on a huge scale.”

While Omung’s film is set to go on the floors next year Ashutosh chose not to comment. But a source close to the director told Mirror that he has bought the rights to the story.

In 1942, ships containing Polish refugees from Russia and Siberia were denied asylum by all the countries they visited. The Maharaja of Jamnagar established a Polish Children Camp in Jamnagar-Balachadi for children brought out of the USSR during World War II. In 1945, the camp was closed and the children were transferred to Valivade in Kolhapur. In 2016, 50 years after Jam Sahib Digvijay Sinhji’s death, the Poland’s Parliament unanimously adopted a special resolution honouring him.
