Birthdays came with a slight sense of discomfort-Hrithik Roshan

On his birthday today, Hrithik Roshan waxes philosophical on learnings, his goals for 2023, and the north-south debate
Rishabh Suri (HINDUSTAN TIMES; January 10, 2023)
Peace, happiness and contentment — Hrithik Roshan has place only for these in his life right now. His resolution for 2023 is “to be more social”. And age is definitely just a number for the actor, who is busy with Fighter, his next. Turning 49 today, he is more vocal than ever about the man behind the star the world recognises. Excerpts from a chat:
Any special plans for today? Do birthdays still excite you?
I used to see it as a fun day but then somewhere along the way it started becoming a chore, a duty, must celebrate, must party... Birthdays came with a slight sense of discomfort. But today, I see it as an opportunity to spend time doing things that would fulfil me. I may still do the exact same things, but now it’s out of my own desire and sense of fulfilment rather than a self-imposed mandate.
People say 49 years old, but it’s 49 years wiser, isn’t it? What’s been the biggest life learning?
That peace is not high up there at the top of the pyramid that we hope to reach someday after all the work is done... Or at the end of the day’s work. It is, in fact, the base and foundation of every thing and every action in every moment. We need to start at peace. The very state of being at the beginning should be peace.
A north vs south debate has been raging on, especially since 2022. As a pan India star, what’s your take on this?
I have always seen myself be a part of the Indian film industry, which is a part of the larger global community striving to entertain. I’d take no part in any debate that says otherwise.
A celeb of your stature has the power to influence millions. You recently got vocal about how physically transforming for War (2019) took a toll on you even mentally. How can younger people out there come out stronger from such a situation?
It wasn’t the transformation — that part is hard work, which I enjoy — it was the heady approach to the movie right till the release. I wasn’t ready for War, where the characters Kabir and Khalid were supposed to go head-to-head in an all-out action movie. Doing films like Kaabil (2017) and Super 30 (2019) had made me lazy. I literally broke parts of me trying to achieve the vision of Kabir in my head. And when the applause and success came, it failed to fill me up. People thought I was that guy on screen — while the human I am, the sacrifices, the broken pieces went completely unseen. That’s when I knew I was on the cusp of something important for my self-growth. I went into a shell for months nursing my physical and mental self back to health. And swore I would do it right the next time around. The problem is, my vision is greater than I can ever be. I’m constantly playing catch up with it. It’s time to reconcile.
On my birthday, I focus on my family, friends and my incredibly steadfast fans-Hrithik Roshan

Birthday boy, Hrithik Roshan isn’t in favour of any ‘extravagant celebration’ on the special day; career-wise, the actor says he is ‘loving this current phase’
Prashant Singh (HINDUSTAN TIMES; January 10, 2020)
Right from his debut film (Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai; 2000), he epitomised great looks and smooth dance moves. Even 20 years later, not many can match Hrithik Roshan’s Adonis-like looks and to-die-for dancing skills. Not just that, the actor — all along — also has had audiences in awe of his pitch-perfect histrionic skills, thanks to many solid performances as well. “I am loving this phase of my career. It feels like the journey has just begun,” says Hrithik, who turns 46 today. Excerpts from an interview:
To start with, would you call yourself a birthday person?
Not really. Usually, I realise quite late that it’s my birthday and then, I have to quickly decide on a plan, if at all, or not. Honestly, I am not someone who looks forward to having any extravagant celebration on this specific day (smiles).
Any special plans for the birthday this year?
For me, the best way to celebrate is to make my birthday a ‘gratitude day.’ I focus on my family, friends and my incredibly steadfast fans, who do not leave a single chance to make me feel special and loved. That’s why birthdays are always dedicated to them. So, for me, it’s about spending time and doing things for them. That’s all I am going to do this year as well.
Last year turned out to be special one for you with the success of Super 30 and War. Now, as we start 2020, how do you look back at 2019?
When I look back at 2019, my heart is filled with joy, relief and gratitude. There is a lot to be grateful for about the last year. I feel blessed for the opportunities, for all the love and support from my fans, and for being surrounded by people who inspire me on a daily basis. Having said that, I feel 2018 was a more important year for me when I was actually working on these two beautiful films — Super 30 and War.
Your last two films were diametrically opposite to each other in terms of their worlds and characterisation. Does that give you a kick as an actor?
Absolutely! It gives me a kick to take up challenging roles and mould myself into different characters (for films), but doing it in the same year — within four months to be specific — was pretty excruciating. But it has its own high in terms of overcoming a tough challenge. I think, perhaps that’s the addiction (smiles).
Interestingly, in 2020, you also complete 20 years as an actor since Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai. How do you look back at your successful journey till now?
Each year, and with every film, there has been so much of learning. But it is only in the last couple of years that I have started feeling more assured as an actor. Kaabil was that turning point for me and it was followed by Super 30 and War. There is some sort of composure now and I trust my instincts more than ever. I don’t feel the need to be as meticulous about what I’m going to do for a particular shot and rather just let it all flow. It is a different feeling altogether.
Now, as we step into a new decade, do you have any particular target or plan in mind that you would want to achieve in the coming 10 years?
A decade is a long time and one’s thoughts and goals would either change or evolve during this time period. Having said that, an ideal target to achieve would always be to have a healthy balance between doing some quality work and spending enough time with my family.
There has been a lot of speculation about your next film...
There are a lot of scripts that I am reading right now. When I find the one that I cannot say no to, you will hear from me and that is going to be very soon.
Recently Deepika Padukone said that she and Ranveer Singh couldn’t stop gushing over you while watching War. She also called you ‘death by chocolate.’ How do you take such statements/praises?
I really didn’t know how to react to that (smiles). It was quite flattering. Thanks to Deepika for the compliment. But I also think that it is the magic of the movies. And it is very encouraging, and of course special when people from your own fraternity compliment you in such a manner.

Fourth instalment in the Krrish franchise slated for 2020
Sanyukta Iyer (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 11, 2018)
On Hrithik Roshan’s 44th birthday, his producerfather Rakesh Roshan announced that the duo will be coming together for the fourth instalment in the superhero franchise, Krrish, which will hit screens on Christmas 2020. Prep will start by the year-end and the high-voltage actioner, which promises never-seen-before special effects, is expected to roll in 2019. The year has begun on a high-note for the actor, who will also kick off shooting for Vikas Bahl’s biopic on the Math genius Anand Kumar.
While his ex-wife, Sussanne Khan, took to social media to wish the star, “Forever and always, you stay the sunshine in my life. Smile that smile brightest and you always will spread that light...limitless,” the actor was in a script-reading session from noon till 2 pm after which he interacted with fans at 3.30 pm, who had waited all morning to greet him at his Juhu residence, arriving from various parts of the country sporting t-shirts with his face on them and holding his movie posters. Hrithik cut his birthday cake with them and when the large and enthusiastic crowd began to force their way into his building, two bouncers stepped in to whisk him away. Hrithik then stepped into his balcony to wave to his eager fans.
Later in the day, the birthday boy hosted a special dinner with around 20 family members and close friends in attendance at his residence. His father was not able to make it as he is out of town on account of work and returns to the Bay only on Monday.
Hrithik Roshan pledges his eyes on his 43rd birthday on January 10

Even as Hrithik Roshan
continues to wow the audiences as Rohan, the visually challenged lead of
Kaabil, the actor is winning hearts for another cause. According to
sources, he pledged to donate his eyes on the occasion of his 43rd
birthday on January 10.
Though Hrithik has always been socially conscious, it was his close association with the visually challenged during the shoot of the Sanjay Gupta film that prompted this decision.
Dr S. Natarajan, the chairman and director of Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital through which the actor pledged to donate his eyes, said, “When I saw the trailer of Kaabil, I called Rakesh Roshan (producer) and asked if Hrithik would pledge his eyes. I was pleasantly surprised when he told me that his son was already planning to do so. When I spoke to Hrithik, he told me that he would like to celebrate his birthday by pledging his eyes.“
The ophthalmologist, incidentally, was also the doctor for Hrithik's grandfather, the legendary composer Roshan. “Though he pledged his eyes on his birthday, he requested us to keep it under wraps. We would now like to use this news to motivate others to follow his example.“
Hrithik was deeply affected when he learnt that by 2020, the number of individuals with unilateral corneal blindness in India is expected to shoot up. The downside is that 75 per cent of these cases are avoidable but due to acute shortage of donors, most cases either go untreated or inadequately treated.
Dr Natarajan rued, “In India, we need close to two lakh donors every year, but currently, we have just 30,000 donations annually.“
That's not all. Hrithik, the doctor said, will be part of a campaign that promotes eye donation. The endeavour is aimed towards encouraging a million people to donate their eyes.

Hrithik has done the things I could not do in my life-Rakesh Roshan

On his son Hrithik's birthday, Rakesh Roshan goes in flashback mode and talks about the days gone by
Nayandeep Rakshit (DNA; January 10, 2017)
Rakesh Roshan is extremely ‘happy and proud’ of his son Hrithik, who turns 43 this year. We caught up with Roshan Sr, to talk about his beta, read on..
Hrithik, the achiever
Right from his childhood, the endearing thing about Duggu is that whatever he wanted to achieve, he would. If he took something up as a challenge, he make it happen.
The brilliant student
He was a brilliant student and focused in his studies. He was an introvert and a quiet kid. He was not a socialising boy at all. He would mostly be at home, playing his games. As a child, he never showed an interest in acting. He was not dancing/acting in front of the mirror. He was very fond of reading. He preferred being indoors after returning from school.
‘Tough childhood’
He was always closer to his mom. I was struggling to make my mark at the time, so I could not spend much time with my children. But I would make sure we went for holidays. I would join them just for about three or four days. Growing up may have been tough for them because I could not give them everything as I couldn’t afford it. But I made sure I brought them up really nicely.
No special treatment
After graduating from college, he was selected to learn special effects abroad. But he chose to be here and started working with me on Karan Arjun. As an assistant director. I was very strict with him. I made sure he would not sit with us for lunches, dinners. He would not travel in my car. Instead, he would travel with the other ADs, in taxis, autos or buses. We would be having breakfast on the same table at home, but on the set, he was not my son, but just another assistant. He would have to share a room with three other people and have food with them. That’s the way I thought he would learn much better. He assisted me on Karan Arjun, Khel, Koyla and then, I launched him in Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai.
‘I slapped him’
I have hit him once or twice. When he was seven or eight years old. We were staying on the 13th floor of a building. We had a big terrace and I had kept some soda bottles and beer bottles there. The kids were throwing all those bottles down and it could have hurt somebody. I lost my temper and out of anger, I gave him two or three slaps. But then, I realised after an hour that maybe, it was not the right way to deal with the situation. I should have just explained it to him. The other time, I hit him is a funny incident. Hrithik was too fussy about eating. And I would make mashed potatoes and other dishes, expecting him to eat and he wouldn’t. Once I got angry and I toppled the bowl on his head.
Living my dream
He has worked really hard. I failed as an actor. But like any parent, I wanted my son to live my dreams. Hrithik has done the things I could not do in my life. He’s a superstar, he is idolised by so many across the world. But he’s my son and he makes me a proud father. He has had his ups and downs in his career and I feel it should always happen because that’s how he will learn from his mistakes.
He’s too trusting
Hrithik trusts people too easily. But that should be the case, right? You need to trust people to work with them or be friends with them. But at times, he ends up getting hurt, but that’s also a big learning curve for him.
A better dad
Hrithik is a good son, but he’s a better dad. He realises I was not there for him. So whenever he gets time, he’s with the kids. He’s either vacationing with them, going for a movie or just spending time with them. He takes them out on adventure trips. Maybe, it is an extension of what he wanted to do when he was their age. He teaches them to perform magic, and play the piano, and guitar. He takes them exercising and do athletic stuff like flipping and they would do it perfectly.”
My 40s certainly promise to be the most fun. I plan to live life to the fullest-Hrithik Roshan

Hrithik Roshan on celebrating his 43rd birthday and what turning older means to him
Subhash K Jha (DNA; January 10, 2017)
Hrithik Roshan, who turns 43 today, went through a turbulent year in 2016. The controversy regarding Kangana Ranaut’s romantic insinuations and the failure of Hrithik’s big-ticket spectacle Mohenjo Daro have not dampened the superstar’s spirit. He looks with hope, happiness and optimism in the coming year as his birthday and the release of Kaabil is lined up one after another.
What do birthdays mean to you?
I guess they are special because it gives people a chance to say they love you and gives you a chance to reciprocate that love. It must be celebrated with joy, just for that reason.
What is your earliest memory of a birthday?
Fancy-dress parties. We used to love them. And waking up to new toys.
Now, of course, your sons must be more excited about your birthdays than you are?
My birthdays are special to them because we always do something crazy on that day. This time, though, I really have to put my imagination to the test as all the post-production work for Kaabil threatens to use up my entire day! But I’m sure I will manage something fun.
How important is Kaabil for you?
Very important. Feels like Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai all over again! By the way, that, too, had opened in January.
Having crossed 40, do you agree that life begins at 40?
Life begins whenever you decide to stand up and dance to the ups and downs of the rhythm of life knowing that it’s always heading towards a crescendo! But my 40s certainly promise to be the most fun. I plan to live life to the fullest.
What is the one most important lesson that life has taught you?
That magic exists. That you can create a world for yourself with your own two hands as long as you stay curious with the wonder of a child about the next surprise life has to offer. I love to be curious about life and grasp new experiences with both hands. I love exploring the world with my sons. To me, it’s a game. And I love playing it.
Would you want your sons to be actors?
They can be anything they want to be. My only condition is that they must do their best in whatever they choose.
Post-Kaabil, which project have you taken on?
None yet. I’m looking at various projects. But contrary to reports, I haven’t signed anything new.
Looking back on the year, what is the one thing that you’d like to change?
Absolutely nothing! I love my life. God has been very kind to me. Minor irritants do not bother me.
I look forward to my birthday because my children make interesting plans-Hrithik Roshan

Lasyapriya Sundaram (BOMBAY TIMES; January 10, 2017)
Hrithik Roshan turns 43 today. The superstar says that he will usher in his birthday with his family
and two sons. That's not all, with his home production Kaabil all set to
hit screens on January 25, the actor is also planning to party with the
cast and crew of the film.
In an exclusive chat with BT, Hrithik says, “I have been working on the post-production of Kaabil. On my birthday, all I want to do is spend time with my family and children. There'll also be a wrap-up party of sorts with the cast and crew of the film. I think I will have a great time surrounded by the people I love.“
The actor, who is devoted to fitness, points out that his concept of birthday has changed since he became a dad. “I look forward to the occasion because my children make interesting plans. They have the habit of writing to me on my birthday, so I eagerly await their notes, and they also look forward to it. It puts a smile on my face.“
Interestingly, Hrithik's debut film Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai (KNPH) had also released in January (14th). Does it make him nostalgic? “I feel like I am travelling back in time. It reminds me of exactly what I had gone through during my first release. It's a very strange feeling, and the reason could be that I have come a full circle. It's almost like I am starting again. It's been long since I've had the opportunity to put my heart and soul into a film,“ he says, adding, “A film script is like a pool. The deeper it is, the deeper you can go, and I have had the opportunity to go into the depths of Rohan (his character in Kaabil)... The last time I felt like this was probably during KNPH or Koi Mil Gaya. It's like going back to the basics.“
Duggu also has a special message for his fans, who he credits for his success and stardom. “I thank my fans for all the love that I receive. Every birthday, I am made to feel cherished - I want to tell all my fans that what makes me special is them and I value their love,“ he signs off.

Hrithik Roshan takes over Akshay Kumar's play area?

BOMBAY TIMES (January 15, 2016)
Akshay Kumar, who resides on
the ground and first floor of Prime Beach building in Juhu, has often
been spotted taking a walk or playing with his children in his
sea-facing garden. However, on Sunday afternoon, the superstar's
customary outdoor play time with son Aarav and daughter Nitara had to be
called off.
Reason being that his new neighbour Hrithik Roshan was holding a media interaction there. The lighteyed superstar, who moved into this building sometime last July, had 'hijacked' the common garden to celebrate his 42nd birthday with the fourth estate. Previously, he'd hold his meet-and-greet session with the media in the compound of Palazzo, on 11th Road Juhu, where he stayed with his family before moving into this sea-facing apartment.

The curious case of the missing leading ladies at Hrithik Roshan’s bash

Hrithik Roshan’s 42nd birthday was supposed to be a rocking affair with the entire industry in attendance. According to a tabloid the guest list had names of 200 industrywallas. But it didn’t quite turn out that way. The only leading ladies who were present were Preity Zinta and Ameesha Patel, besides Sonakshi Sinha. The others like Katrina Kaif and Sonam Kapoor gave the party a miss. Hrithik may not have worked with the Kanganas and Deepikas, however, they are friends, but they were also absent. It is surprising that they skipped the bash even though they were in the city. Perhaps the B-Town folks were all partied out from Farah Khan’s birthday brunch the same afternoon which stretched well into the evening. Later that night Anushka Sharma, Sonam, etc were spotted at a pre-award bash. The only star presence at Duggu’s bash was in the form of Shah Rukh Khan and Ranveer Singh.

Hrithik was a gracious host. “Everyone hit the dance floor. Lounge music and Bollywood hits were played, with Hrithik's songs getting the loudest cheers,“ says a source who attended the party.
Also, present were Arjun Kapoor, Zoya Akhtar, Hrithik's former brother-in-law DJ Aqeel with wife Farah Khan Ali, Simone Khan, Fardeen Khan, Zayed Khan, Subhash Ghai, Shilpa Shetty and Sonali Bendre among others.
Sunday started with a havan. In the afternoon, he cut a cake with the media. Hrithik was in the mood to spread joy, urging everyone to “laugh more for all this shall pass into oblivion“. The guests were sent chocos and champagne as return gifts.

Sussanne Roshan on why she wasn’t at ex Hrithik Roshan’s b’day party despite being on good terms with him
Subhash K Jha (DNA; January 11, 2016)
Hrithik Roshan brought in his 42nd birthday bash on
Saturday night and all his friends and colleagues were invited to the
party. A week before the party, the invites were sent out and the guest
list was known to the industry as well as the media.
There was speculation whether his ex-wife Sussanne Khan would attend this party. Since their separation, although her family continued to bond with the actor and vice versa, she has stayed away. But her absence at the party raised a few eyebrows. In an exclusive clarification, Sussanne broke her silence to say she had not attended her former husband’s party, as she wasn’t even invited.
She explains, “My relationship with Hrithik is wonderful with respect to our kids. We are good parents and that is our priority regarding each other. But we don’t socialise or hang out together as friends.” The soft-spoken former Mrs Roshan, who officially separated from her husband in December 2013 after a 14-year marriage had faced similar speculation in October 2014, when she celebrated her birthday. It was being said that Hrithik would attend his former wife’s birthday.
Says Sussanne, “I understand him not inviting me. We don’t invite each other to our birthdays. People love to make a big deal out of nothing.” She clarifies there is absolutely no ill-will between the separated couple. “By the grace of God we have found peace with our choices and with each other. I will always wish for him to be the happiest in all that he does. And I know he wishes the same for me.”

Madhureeta Mukherjee (BOMBAY TIMES; January 8, 2016)
Take a Greek god, strip him
of his sinews. Lose the immortality and junk the superpowers - and what
have you? A mortal? A human? A Hrithik Roshan. An actor who never
tires of hearing compliments equating him with Greek godliness and
superhero capers. I wanted to cut to the chase to discover what the
beating heart inside him was like. And I hit pay dirt. In this heartfelt
interview, Hrithik revealed how he is an emotional father. A hopeful
lover. A fearless explorer. A man who is curious about the unknown, an
actor with red blood flowing in his veins, in spite of his blue-blooded
stardom. And this is what really makes Hrithik Roshan so desirable and
droolworthy. Read on...
You tweeted this at the start of the year: “This year GET CURIOUS! Find out what happens if u DO do all d things u were too afraid or lazy to do! Don't u wonder what's on d other side?“ Hrithik, have you been following what you said? Rediscovering yourself, taking risks and pushing boundaries?
To me that's like asking if I'm living or not. I believe if you are not rediscovering yourself and pushing boundaries, then you are not alive. Everybody wants to change something about their life, but they are either too afraid, too lazy, or too comfortable with 'the way things are'. That's not a natural state because nature is constantly evolving and urging us to follow suit. It unsettles me because I see myself in them, and I want for them the change I have achieved physically and mentally. If you are not aiming that high, why play at all? I'm so curious about knowing the unknown, it can be scary but I see it as a game and that takes all the fear away.
You have been playing the perfect daddy to your boys - Hrehaan and Hridhaan. What are the things you boys like doing together?
My bond with my boys is true and strong, not just because they are my sons, but because we three are perfectly cast in characters that get along so well when we are together. Nothing remains special if you are not constantly pushing your imagination to discover and invent possibilities. Fatherhood didn't just happen to me, I am deliberately living it, re-imagining it and rediscovering it every day. It is as beautiful as I make it, just like anything else in life.
Does it bring back memories of the relationship you shared with your father while growing up?
No. Different characters, different movie (laughs). I am blessed to have a great father who did his best while trying to make ends meet financially and professionally.
Ever feel that the time you get to spend with your boys is not enough, as kids grow up really quickly?
People keep saying that, but for me time is like the wave and I'm the surfer. As long as I am one with the wave, riding it and harnessing its speed - I will never feel it's going faster than me. If I stop to reflect upon it, it's going to overcome me. There will come a point when it all automatically slows down, until then I am the eternal time surfer. So I don't feel my time with my boys is not enough. I have all the time in the world. Right now, I am rediscovering the world with them, we are travellers, explorers, and we have to go where no man has gone before...(ha!ha!)
Do you watch any of your movies with your boys? How do they react?
Yes, that's when the daddy turns into the child, hoping for a compliment from them. When my kids love my work I feel elated and victorious, it means more to me than an Oscar. And when they are silent, I'm proud that they have a mind and perspective of their own, and are courageous enough not to say things just to please me.
In the past year you have been living by yourself, spending a lot of time with your children and focussing on one film at a time. So are you in a happy place and a happy state of mind?
Yes! I have never had such sense of joy and fulfillment. It's almost like this is the person I was destined to be. But it's come through a lot of hard work. I had to fight my own mind to get here.
You tweeted after watching SRK's recent film, “to the man who makes his own luck“. Do you think one can make his own luck? Some believe that we are either born with it, or we are not.
I choose to see in others what I see in myself, or desire for myself. If you believe you are either born with it or not, you will always remain a victim of circumstances. But if you believe you have the power to make your own luck - you will confidently engage in an action that will cause a change.
Do you believe in finding love all over again?
I am so full of love that it's not possible I won't find love. At the same time, I don't need another person to feel the feeling of love. I feel it all the time. But if you are asking about someone who I can share my joy and travels with, then yes, I may come across one. Or ten (smiles). Who knows?
Ever thought of doing films in the West, given your great looks and stock of talent?
Sure enough. Doing films in the West seems very possible. In fact, I will do it.
You focus on one film at a time; don't you feel the need to do more?
Honestly, I do. And I am going to. I am bound to make that happen now.
In an industry that is so competitive, you are constantly tweeting praises and applaud ing other actors on social net working sites.
It's simple. People who don't praise others are secretly afraid. And people who praise just to please others, suffer from low self-worth. They live their life shackled to their glory and success. I am free. I am super at what I do and what I am. And to become better myself, I must rejoice and push my friends to be even greater.

Hrithik Roshan to raise a toast with 200-odd friends at 5-star hotel for his 42nd birthday?

Hrithik Roshan is all set to turn 42 in style. He is hosting a big bash at a rooftop watering hole of a Worli hotel and being the perfectionist that he is, is looking into every detail himself, from the decor to the menu. While his birthday is on January 10, the party will begin the night before from 9 pm.
"Hrithik has invited around 200-odd people and that includes the who's who of the industry, along with close buddies, Kunal Kapoor and Naina Bachchan, Sonali Bendre and Goldie Behl, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh," informs a source close to the actor.
Hrithik who has always preferred quiet celebrations in the past, is in a mood to party this year. "He has become pretty social of late and has been accepting plenty of invitations from filmi friends. It's time to reciprocate," adds the source.
However, after letting his hair down, the actor will be up early on Sunday for a havan organised at his Juhu residence. His family, including parents, Rakesh and Pinky Roshan, uncle Rajesh Roshan, sister Sunaina and sons, Hrehaan and Hridhaan will be present for the puja and the leisurely lunch that follows.
Last year, Hrithik had brought in the day quietly with a puja at his new home, then cut a cake with his fans and journos. The rest of the day was divided among his parents, sons, sister and uncle.
There was a small party attended by some of his B-town buddies, including Parineeti Chopra, Priyanka Chopra, Ali Zafar and Kangana Ranaut. Another cake was cut at Umang 2015, the annual celebration for the Mumbai Police, where the Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, was the chief guest.
"Family will always come first for Hrithik but this time he also wants to let his hair down with friends," the source signs off.
Rakesh Roshan gets emotional as he talks about Hrithik on his 40th birthday

As Hrithik Roshan turns 40 today (January 10), his father filmmaker and
one-time actor Rakesh Roshan turns emotional saying, “My wife and I want
Hrithik to be happy and at peace with himself, no matter what.”
The father and son are friends says Papa Roshan, “We’re very close. And yes, we’re friends. But there is still that respect in him for me. He can never cross the line. If I enter a room while he is relaxing he will spring to his feet.” Success, says Roshan Sr, has not changed his son over the years. “He is still the same hard-working boy who wraps his omlette in a newspaper and rushes to his shooting in the morning. That kind of dedication is very rare. Any director including me is lucky to have him on board. He is fully with the director. He makes no distinction between working with me and working with an outside director. He is equally involved in both cases.”
The proud father has enjoyed Hrithik’s films outside the family banner, “I liked his performance immensely in Jodha-Akbar, Agneepath, Guzaarish and specially Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara where he had to play a normal regular guy. That’s really difficult to do. He never lets us feel like a superstar was playing that role.”
Getting emotional Rakesh says, “He can work with other directors. But I’d never work with any other actor, unless I am making an out-and-out heroine-oriented film like Khoon Bhari Maang. I might be tempted to make a film with a female protagonist. But only if Hrithik is too busy to work with me. When I was an actor I could feel a filmmaker lurking within me. But I was never satisfied as an actor. I had a big hit like Kaam Chor. But that helped Jaya Prada’s career, not mine. I knew God wanted me to be a director. Now I feel Hrithik who is such a successful actor, far more than I ever could be, has a filmmaker lurking within him. He will hundred percent direct a film some day. Mark my words, he’ll be a very fine director. I am sure of that. He may not be a good producer, but he’ll be a terrific director.”
