After four years of dating, Farhan Akhtar and Shibani Dandekar tied the knot in Khandala yesterday. The low key affair held at the Akhtar family’s bungalow was attended by the close friends of the couple including Shibani’s sister Anushka, Rhea Chakraborty, Hrithik Roshan and family, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Ashutosh Gowarikar, Ritesh Sidhwani, Amrita Arora among others.

A source informs, “They decided to forgo traditional rituals and read vows to each other. The bride wore a red ensemble and the groom was in a black bandhgala suit. Javed Akhtar recited a poem for the couple.” Musical trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy performed for the guests belting out their hits from Zindagi Na Milegi Dobaara, Rock On and Dil Chahta Hai.

“Keeping COVID-19 protocols in mind, the guest list was kept to a minimal crowd of 50. The couple will register the marriage with a court wedding in Mumbai this week and host a reception later in the month,” added the source.

The mehendi and sangeet ceremony was held last evening and the haldi was earlier in the day.

Farhan Akhtar and Shibani Dandekar’s pre-wedding festivities took place with a lot of fervour over the past few days. The couple, who is all set to take their wedding vows today, had a mehendi ceremony on February 17 at Farhan’s Mumbai home, which was attended by close family members and friends like Shabana Azmi, Anusha Dandekar, Rhea Chakraborty, Amrita Arora Ladak. Yesterday, the couple and their guests left for the wedding venue, Akhtar’s family home in Khandala, where the haldi ceremony took place.

A day before their wedding, BT spoke to Farhan Akhtar’s mother, screenwriter Honey Irani, who said, “I had tested COVID positive and was under isolation, but I am fine now. I am looking forward to participating in their big day.”

Talking about her daughter-in-law, Irani says, “Shibani is a lovely girl. She is so beautiful and is extremely respectful towards others. She gets along very well with the family. I meet Shibani every second day because they (Farhan and Shibani) live just next door. We also went on a holiday to the Maldives together. Shibani and I talk on the phone almost every day and keep messaging each other. She’s just too sweet. I am even fond of her parents and her sisters who are very cultured. It was really nice meeting all of them.”

Farhan apparently broke the news about their decision to get married to his mother, by inviting her for a dinner hosted by the duo. Sharing more about the kind of rapport she shares with Shibani, and how both Farhan and his partner relish her food, she said, “There are times when they both call me and say, ‘Mom, we are coming home, kuch achcha banake rakhna. Shibani likes to eat the guacamole I make. She also enjoys eating my nawabi keema and all the other mutton dishes I make and, of course, the dhansak. She is quite a foodie! It’s good for them as both of them love food. Both of them are on a diet all the time, but Sunday is the day when they want to treat themselves,” she says.

When asked if Irani gave any inputs to the couple with regards to the wedding prep, she replied, “I told them that the festivities will be incomplete without kulfi and jalebi on the menu. I just don’t care about the rest (laughs!). The food has to be good and it can’t go wrong. That is the only thing everybody has been contemplating right from the word go. It was never about ladki kya pehnegi, ya ladka kya pehnega… khaana kya banega has always been very important.”

She further elaborates how the wedding celebrations will be a small and intimate affair. “We are a very close-knit group for the wedding. That in itself is a celebration because it is great fun to have everybody who you care about and who cares about you as part of the festivities. The people who will be present are the people who have been with us for all these years. So, we really want them to be there with us on the big day. We have to keep in mind the precautions and protocols we need to follow during the pandemic and hence, we will have a limited number of guests. It has been a difficult task to chalk out the guest list, but the good part is that the people have been understanding.”

Farhan Akhtar, Shibani Dandekar to have a traditional Maharashtrian wedding on February 19?

Vinay MR Mishra (HINDUSTAN TIMES; February 17, 2022)

While it has been reported that actors Farhan Akhtar and Shibani Dandekar will get married in a civil ceremony on February 21, it seems that a Maharashtrian wedding is also scheduled on February 19. We have exclusively learned that an intimate traditional ceremony is scheduled on Saturday at Akhtar’s farmhouse in Khandala, Maharashtra.

An insider discloses, “The family has been extremely discreet about this wedding as they don’t wish the media to turn up at the venue. Only family members have been invited. It is still unclear how things are planned, as everything is under wraps. But in most probability, it will be a Maharashtrian wedding.”

We have also gathered that the family will leave for Khandala on the evening of February 18, and the wedding is touted to be a daytime affair the next day. Dandekar’s sisters and close friends are believed to be in charge of the pre-wedding festivities and bachelorette, which will take place between February 17 (today) and 18. Dating for about four years, the couple will register the wedding at their Bandra house on February 21. A reception of sorts is to be held for friends and colleagues in the evening.

Recently, Akhtar shared a picture with his friends on Insta, which got people wondering if it was from his bachelor bash. Interestingly, Dandekar was also part of the party.

It’s raining weddings in Bollywood! And the newest couple to take the route is Farhan Akhtar and Shibani Dandekar. The duo has been in a relationship reportedly for over three years. Finally, after a lot of speculation over the couple’s wedding, it is the would-be groom’s father and legendary lyricist and screen-writer Javed Akhtar who has confirmed to Bombay Times about the big development.

It was said that Farhan-Shibani would opt for a registered marriage on February 21, followed by an intimate ceremony which will be attended by family and close friends at senior Akhtar’s family home in Khandala.

When BT reached out to Javed Akhtar, he confirmed the news saying, “Yes, the wedding is taking place. Rest, shaadi ki jo taiyyariyan hain that is being taken care of by the wedding planners.”

Owing to the pandemic, Javed Akhtar says that only limited people will be a part of the intimate ceremony. He shares, “Taking the situation into consideration it is obvious that we cannot host anything on a large scale. So, we are only calling a few people. It will be a very simple affair. Khair abhi tak toh invitations bhi nahi bheje gaye hai.”

About welcoming Shibani into the family, Akhtar says, “She is a very nice girl. All of us like her very much. The most important thing is that Farhan and she get along very well, which is great. ”

Farhan Akhtar, Shibani Dandekar to tie the knot in March?

BOMBAY TIMES (January 6, 2022)

As per buzz, Farhan Akhtar and Shibani Dandekar are all set to tie the knot in March. The two have been dating for around three years and often make an appearance in each other’s social media posts. According to reports, they were planning a bigger celebration in Mumbai in March. However, given the spike in Coronavirus cases, the couple plans to keep the celebrations low-key and intimate. Farhan and Shibani have apparently finalised the venue and their wedding attire.

Last January, too, there was talk that the couple was planning to get married. When BT had reached out to Farhan’s father, writer-lyricist Javed Akhtar, he had said, “I just heard about this from you! I was with Farhan the day before yesterday. It was his birthday. He didn’t tell me anything about this.”

When further asked whether it would come as a shocker if wedding bells did ring for the two, he had added, “You never know, children can be very secretive. ”

Talking about Shibani, he said, “I have met Shibani many times. She is a very sweet girl.”

We reached out to Farhan and Shibani, but the couple known to keep a low profile didn’t comment till the time of going to press.

Wedding bells for Farhan Akhtar, Shibani Dandekar?

Nishi Tiwari (MUMBAI MIRROR; January 15, 2019)

Farhan Akhtar and Shibani Dandekar, who spent most of 2018 playing hide-and-seek vis-à-vis their relationship status, making it Insta-official only towards the year-end, seem all set to make it legal.

While at a press conference recently, the 45-year-old actor-filmmaker was quoted as saying that he is looking forward to the release of his next film, the Shonali Bose-directed The Sky Is Pink and has a “special announcement” to make, but at a later, more appropriate occasion.

In a classic case of a picture speaking a thousand words, this coincides with Farhan and Shibani, 38, making f quent appearances on each other’s social media. On the sidelines of their online inte actions, which have gradually moved on from innocuous hints at a romance to fullblown I-Love-Yous, the couple ushered in the New Year together with friends and family. Shibani hung out with her beau’s pet, Jim, over the first weekend of 2019, while the following one saw the couple at a pool party with a bunch of their close friends.

On Sunday, Farhan shared an image of them in a pool, with Shibani propped up on his arms. “As long as I have you/ As long as you are/I’ll never be lost… Shine on beautiful star, Shibani Dandekar, love you loads,” he wrote. Last week, the model-actress marked Farhan’s birthday on January 9 by flaunting his “coolest tattoo” of a tiny dolphin. “Happy birthday my sweet grumps, love you loads,” she shared, appending the post with a series of celebratory emojis.

This, coupled with reports that the duo is currently on the lookout for wedding planners, caterers and a March/April date for D-Day, indicates that it’s only a matter of time before the “special announcement” that Farhan promised will be in the public domain.
