VEERE DI WEDDING had a good weekend of 35 crore nett which is well above the expectations that anybody could have had for the film even probably the makers themselves. The film has scored excellent collections in Delhi/UP and East Punjab and other circuits which are dominated by multiplexes are good. Mumbai has under performed for the film due to the Gujarat/Saurashtra belt which is a conservative circuit dominated by the family audience. So this type of film will find it hard to collect there.

The trend is so so over the weekend and pretty flat but that was also the case for BAAGHI 2 but the main difference is that BAAGHI 2 had mass appreciation and was a film which was universal. Here its an urban film with limited appreciation restricted to a few cities so it could have done with more growth.

The first weekend collections of VEERE DI WEDDING are as follows.
Friday - 10,75,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 11,50,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 12,75,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 35,00,00,000 apprx

The film is a success unless it crashes out on Monday but there is still work to do to become a HIT film and for that the weekdays are crucial. The hold does not need to be huge on Monday and it needs to have that normal weekday trend which will be good enough for the film.

The core Hindi film audience has not really taken to the film but it does not need to do a huge number to be a HIT film and as long as the target audience in the metros is there for the next ten days or so it should put up a good lifetime total.

BHAVESH JOSHI SUPERHERO collected 90-95 lakhs nett over its first weekend and it is even lower than other duds by the same director like UDAAN and TRAPPED which managed to get over the 1 crore nett mark.

VEERE DI WEDDING had a very good first day of 10.75 crore nett apprx which is hugely unexpected. It is the highest opening day ever for a film without a major male lead beating the numbers of TANU WEDS MANU RETURNS and MARY KOM. There have been films like RAGINI MMS 2 and JISM 2 which have opened as strongly if not better than VEERE DI WEDDING in the morning but they have not gone to sustain through the day like VEERE DI WEDDING.

The job is basically done for the film as with this start its a commercial success because after the weekend business all its costs will be recovered and on top the solid early numbers from Overseas are a bonus. The novelty of women mouthing expletives has given this film an initial boost that is unthinkable. There are examples of erotic thrillers with female leads getting initial boosts but this sort of expletives in an urban female driven film is a first for the Hindi film industry.

This has enabled the makers to be in the clear but for the director and artistes to really benefit, the film must also find some appreciation with the audience and cannot afford to just filter out after this big start. The youth has come in a big especially young females with some multiplexes reporting a higher ratio of  females compared to males which is very rare in Hindi cinema and the next few days will tell how this audience has appreciated the film.

The collections on the first day show the normal trend and its not as if they fell in the evening so it will be expected to trend well but the weekend collections bring families into play and this could be the test for the film. This is the audience which takes those medium budget films like SONU KE TITU KI SWEETY and RAAZI to those big numbers and if this film gets some acceptance from the families then it will no doubt go on to be a major HIT.

The other release BHAVESH JOSHI SUPERHERO had poor collections of 25-30 lakhs nett and the director has done this before with UDAAN (29 lakhs) and TRAPPED (25 lakhs) and obviously makes cinema that no one wants to see but the industry takes a lot of time to learn that facts and figures rarely lie.
