Assures that the film on Benazir Bhutto will happen in time
Natasha Coutinho (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 9, 2016)
After a fleeting appearance in Anurag Kashyap's Bombay Velvet, Raveena Tandon returns to the silver screen with a full-fledged role and a social message. Titled Maatra the film deals with issues of violence against women and how to empower them.
Raveena informed Mirror, "I begin shooting on March 19 in a month-long start-to-finish schedule in North India. It's a realistic film which I accepted because of its message."
Meanwhile her film on Benazir Bhutto is on hold at the moment but Raveena assures that it will happen despite rumours that it has been shelved.
"We are waiting for permission from those associated with the late Prime Minister of Pakistan whose assassination shook the world because I don't believe in courting controversy. We don't want to hurt feelings," she explains.

The actress also explains why she refused to be part of Suchitra Sen biopic
Nayandeep Rakshit (DNA; June 11, 2015)
Vidya Balan received tremendous respect as an actor
after she played the character based on Silk Smitha in The Dirty
Picture. Ever since then she has been approached for many biopics. She’s
been offered and has refused several such films likethe ones based on
the lives of late singer Subbulakshmi, late politician Benazir Bhutto
and late yesteryear actress Suchitra Sen.
She avers, “I don’t know where this Benazir Bhutto biopic story has come from. I was not even offered the film. How would I even refuse something I have not been offered?” What about Suchitra Sen? She confirms, “I was approached for the biopic, but I chose not to do it.” She feels that if the film was being made in Bengali, it should have cast one of her grand daughters and she might have said yes to the project had it been made as a Hindi film. “It was a Bengali film. At least, if it was a Hindi film, it was still okay that I looked completely different from her. But for a Bengali film, I just thought when there is a Raima Sen, it didn’t make any sense for me to do it. Though I would have loved to play her and the script was very good, Raima looks so much like her grandmom Suchitra Sen and I thought it will look more credible,” she explained.
She does really want to play someone on screen, though. “Indira Gandhi. I just find her to be so charismatic, powerful and yet so mysterious. You don’t know about the person Indira Gandhi. So it would be a great biopic to star in.”

Bollywood corridors about Raveena Tandon being all hot and bothered about the sexual content in her next film, which is said to be loosely based on the life of assassinated Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
A source says, “Raveena has been in touch with the scriptwriter. She sat through the narration and asked for
toning down the bold scenes. Once the final script is ready, she will be called for another round of narration after which the makers will launch their hunt for a director.”
Sources suggest the intimate scenes might be based on Bhutto’s alleged involvement with a high profile cricketer with whom she allegedly shared a close relationship while studying at the Oxford University in the early ’70s. An insider says the actress went to the UK for a meeting with the make-up artist working on the film.
Adds the source, “A few looks have been worked out for her. She will try them and see what suits the role best. If everything falls in place, she will give her final nod to the film.”
Raveena remained unavailable for comment.

It was earlier reported that Vidya Balan had been offered to play slain Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in an upcoming 'biopic'. But if the latest buzz is to be believed, it is Raveena Tandon, and not Vidya, who will portray the charismatic Pakistani leader.
A source says, "A couple of days ago, Raveena had a meeting with the scriptwriter and he narrated the subject to her. She has read the script and liked it too. It is a powerful character and she is keen to take it up."
It is said that the actress is also interested to produce this ambitious project. The source adds, "The story is loosely based on Bhutto's life. Raveena has suggested some changes in the script and once they are accommodated, she will start looking for a director and finalise the rest of the cast as well."
Raveena remained unavailable for comment.

Vidya Balan to go backpacking through Italy all alone

The actress plans to go backpacking through Italy but minus husband Siddharth Roy Kapur
Sanyukta Iyer (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 12, 2015)
Vidya Balan who has been busy with Mohit's Suri's love triangle, Hamari Adhuri Kahani, is yearning to go off on a holiday. The actress who brought in the New Year with husband Siddharth Roy Kapur in Los Angeles, wants to fly solo this time.
The actress told Mirror dreamily, "I want to go backpacking alone through Italy - Milan, Florence, Naples, Venice and Rome. It would be perfect right now."
The actress insists that a vacation after every film is a new must-do on for her. The idea first occurred to her in 2011, when she was promoting No One Killed Jessica and shooting The Dirty Picture simultaneously.
"Immediately after the latter wrapped up, I started filming Kahaani with Sujoy Ghosh. I'm always energetic when I'm around people and at events. But at the end of the day, when I was back home, I would be completely drained out," she reminisces. To pep herself up, she packed her bags and took a family vacation in New Zealand. "It was revitalising,"she smiles.
That was 2012. A similar outing is now on the anvil, except this time she wants to be alone. "Little noises irritate me after a long day's work. I become very sensitive to sound. Even the clatter of heels on a wooden floor can have me pulling my hair out," she admits.
That's what necessitated the breakaway to New York after the release of Bobby Jasoos. This time she wants a holiday under the Tuscan sun and the itinerary is all charted out.
"I've also decided that I will do only one film this year," says the actress who opted out of Sujoy Ghosh's Durga Rani Singh over creative differences with him.
Buzz is, the actress will be seen playing former Pakistani Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto, who was assisinated in 2007, next. But the actress denies the rumours saying, "No, I have not signed the film. Everybody is making a biopic these days or is acting in one. I have lots of autobiography-style scripts with me at the moment, I will select one."

Subhash K Jha (DNA; February 12, 2015)
Stories of Vidya Balan playing various real-life
characters have surfaced during the past one year. We first heard she
was playing the mythical singer MS Subbulakshmi. Now we hear she is
playing the slain Pakistani politician Benazir Bhutto.
Unfortunately, making a film on controversial Ms Bhutto is not an offer open to any filmmaker. Says a source, “The rights of making a film on Benazir Bhutto are with her family. After her gruesome assassination in December 2007, Shabana Azmi was picked to play the slain stateswoman in an Indo-Pak co-production to be helmed by Mahesh Bhatt.”
Bhatt was chosen to produce and direct the Benazir film because of his close cultural links with Pakistan. Shabana, who bears a cultural and physical resemblance to Benazir, had been chosen to play the gutsy Pakistani leader of 25 years ago in a film that was to be made by British-Pakistani author Tariq Ali. However, the project about which both were equally enthusiastic has been stopped by Benazir’s widower Asif Ali Zadari — the former President of Pakistan. Apparently, Zardari and his family would personally like to supervise any consummate Benazir biopic. All films on Benazir, including one that was to feature Sushmita Sen some years ago, have been called a halt.
Given the backdrop, it seems unlikely that Vidya will step in to play Benazir. Earlier, her biopic with singer MS Subbulakshmi which cinematographer Rajiv Menon was to direct, was shelved. It looks like it would be a while before Vidya gets to play another real-life character.
Looks like Aishwarya and I will star together in a film-Sushmita Sen

After being a part of the film industry for nearly two decades, Sushmita Sen has now signed a Bangla film.
Sen will be making her Bangla film debut with Srijit Mukherji’s Nirbaak. hitlist caught up with the actress….
What took you so long to do a film in your mother tongue?
I always wanted to be part of a good Bangla film and whenever I was offered a project, I always wanted something better. But when Nirbaak came my way, I found the story so gripping that I said yes right away.
You make appearances at charity events and fashion shows, but it’s been a while since you played the lead in a Hindi film…
None of the scripts that came my way interested me. My ability to say no to them is the reason why you did not see much of me on the big screen.
So many of your contemporaries are now married. Some have come back to start their second innings…
Like I said earlier, the scripts did not interest me. As for marriage, I am saving the best for last and when it happens, it will be beautiful.
There were reports about you playing Benazir Bhutto in a film. Is it happening?
No, that film was shelved a long time ago. But I do know that the people of Pakistan would’ve loved to see me as Bhutto.
Do you star alongside Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Prahlad Kakkar’s film?
Looks like she and I will star together in the film. It’s a matter of time before the film starts rolling. I look forward to it.
The last time Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was at Cannes, she was criticised by Indian and international media; this time, they loved her on the red carpet. Comment.
It’s a story of every celebrity. We all get targeted at some point or the other and then people’s perceptions change. One should not worry about what the world thinks.
You are a single mother who has lived life on her own terms. How difficult has it been?
It’s not easy but it’s beautiful. Being a mother is a 24x7 job. But the highs are amazing and one does not pay attention to the lows. When I go away, the world will remember my two beautiful daughters, who I believe will make me stay on in the minds of the people.
How do you spend your free time?
I play the joker for my kids. Raising children is about playing a part at different times of the day. I am also an entrepreneur, a daughter and a sister. There is so much to do beyond films; I am living my life. I’d like to own a chain of destination spas some day.
