With his remodelled Being Haangry vans serving as mobile kitchens on ‘Battle Of Galwan’ set, Salman Khan provides fresh meals to the unit, free of cost
Upala KBR (MID-DAY; November 26, 2025)
During the pandemic-induced lockdown in 2020, Salman Khan came up with the idea of deploying food trucks to provide ration kits to the underprivileged and meals to the frontline workers across the city. Five years on, the purpose of his food trucks, Being Haangryy, has expanded.
We’ve learnt that the superstar has redesigned two vans to include fully equipped kitchens. These serve as mobile kitchens on the sets of his films, including Battle Of Galwan, providing fresh meals not only to Khan, but also to the entire unit.
On sets, Khan was often known to bring large quantities of home-cooked food every day, sharing it with his staff and visitors. The idea of having a food truck on the set struck him as he didn’t like the practice of different food being served to unit hands.
A source shares, “Every production has three different types of food served on the set — one for the stars, another for technicians and HoDs, and the third for unit hands. Salman got increasingly uncomfortable with this distinction. So, beginning with Sikandar’s shoot earlier this year, he decided to bring one Being Haangry van on set daily, thus providing the entire unit access to the same food that he eats. The meals are provided free of cost, and are an option outside of those served by the production team.”
With the remodelled vans including a kitchen and cold storage, customized food is now an order away. Two cooks run the kitchen during a shift, offering meals that range from staples like dal, rice and vegetables, to avocado sandwiches, and of course, the actor’s all-time favourite — mutton biryani.
The source adds, “The fully functional kitchen can be used to cook for 500 people. There is a wide range of dishes on offer — from methi ki sabzi or aloo matar, to fish curry and rice, and healthier options preferred by the younger crew members. Providing clean and healthy food is the priority. They provide coffee too.”
Movie shoots aside, Khan uses these vans while filming for Bigg Boss.

Spearheading a movement to help those affected by the pandemic at Salman Khan’s behest, Yuva Sena leader Rahul Kanal on measures being taken by team
Upala KBR (MID-DAY; May 5, 2021)
A pandemic that has caused havoc for people across the social strata has also taken a toll on such children and young adults whose lives have been turned upside down following the demise of their parents. When an 18-year-old science student (name withheld) from Karnataka reached out on social media for financial help after his father succumbed to the disease, Salman Khan stepped up to offer aid.
The actor’s attention was drawn to the post by Yuva Sena leader Rahul S Kanal, who has been collaborating with him on the Being Haangryy food trucks endeavour, which supplies food to frontline workers, including police personnel, BMC staff and health workers. Kanal says, “We have provided ration and educational equipment to him. We will be there for him and provide whatever is needed for his betterment. Salman’s family of fans are enabling us to help others. Salman told us to go out and be there for every human in need. He is aware of every fan club devoted to him. He is also aware of every request that comes his way, and the ones that we are providing aid to.”
Kanal says Khan has helped 5,000 frontline workers. “[Aid has also been provided] by sending medical equipment, oxygen cylinders, and food packets provided to the underprivileged. In Indore, 180 blood plasma donations have been made by members of Salman’s fan clubs.”

Salman Khan revives last years food donation drive as a three-week plan; distributes meals among frontline workers in the city
Upala KBR (MID-DAY; April 22, 2021)
In the early months of the lockdown last year, Salman Khan’s food trucks were a common sight on Mumbai roads as they distributed food kits among the underprivileged. Almost a year on, as the country reels under the second wave of the Coronavirus, the superstar has revived the initiative. This time around, the Being Haangryy trucks are distributing meals among the frontline workers.
Yuva Sena leader Rahul Kanal, who is coordinating the endeavour with the actor, says that the superstar sprang into action as soon as the state government imposed a junta curfew from April 15. “Salman expressed his concern for the police officers, BMC staff and health workers on duty. Given their long work hours, he wondered how they would procure essentials since most shops are shut and the grocery stores are functioning in the stipulated four-hour window. Within 24 hours of our conversation, our food trucks hit the road,” says Kanal.
Over the past two days, three food trucks have distributed food packets to COVID-19 warriors between Worli and Juhu. A three-week plan has been charted out, with the idea of extending their service to other pockets of Mumbai. Kanal adds, “Our kits include tea, mineral water, a pack of biscuits, and snacks that include upma or poha or vada pav or pav bhaji. We have also started a helpline number on which the frontline workers can call, and we’ll travel to their area to serve them. It is Salman’s way of thanking them for their sustained efforts. This will go on till May 15.”

After helping daily wagers, Salman Khan kicks off food donation drive at Mumbai auditoriums for drama artistes
Upala KBR (MID-DAY; June 1, 2020)
On May 30, mid-day had reported about Ali Fazal teaming up with actor-writer Amitosh Nagpal to raise funds for theatre artistes and technicians who have been hit hard by the Coronavirus lockdown. As it turns out, Salman Khan too has been concerned about the community and was charting out a plan with Yuva Sena leader Rahul N Kanal to extend help to them. Yesterday, the superstar kicked off a food donation drive for the theatre workers by sending his two food trucks, Being Haangryy, to the Damodar Natyagruha in Parel and Shri Shivaji Mandir Natyagruha in Dadar.
Kanal, who is coordinating the drive on behalf of Khan, along with Shiv Sena corporator Amey Ghole, informs that they intend to make it a daily affair with the two trucks covering different parts of Mumbai. He says, "We started the initiative when we heard about the plight of the artistes and technicians of Shri Shivaji Mandir Natyagruha. I reached out to Salman bhai who immediately agreed to help us. Each ration kit contains five kilos of rice and wheat flour, vegetables, oil, salt, spices and tea powder. We reached out to 186 workers on the first day and hope to extend help to other theatre artistes through them. We are practising safety measures while distributing the kits."
When it was brought to his notice that Fazal is building a database of theatre artistes to enable smooth and transparent distribution of funds, Kanal added, "If we could get the contact numbers of any theatre company that needs support, we will be happy to help."

Now, Salman Khan arranges Being Haangryy food trucks to make daily rounds of Mumbai slums and distribute essentials to the needy
Upala KBR (MID-DAY; May 8, 2020)
Even as he stays put at his Panvel farmhouse, Salman Khan is doing his bit to help the daily-wage workers and vertically challenged artistes in the industry, suffering due to the Coronavirus lockdown. Now, the actor has kickstarted a food donation drive in Mumbai where two food trucks labelled Being Haangryy make the rounds of the western suburbs and distribute essentials among the underprivileged.A source reveals, "The food trucks were an initiative of Salman's not-for-profit organisation Being Human and initially kept on the set of Radhe to provide free meals to the crew. Since the suspension of shoots in mid-March, the trucks have been lying unused. When it struck Salman that they can be used for a greater cause, he promptly contacted Yuva Sena leader Rahul N Kanal to implement the idea."
Over the past two weeks, they have extended help across slums in Andheri, Bandra and Santacruz. The source adds, "They try to reach 1,000 families every day. Every kit contains three kilos each of rice and wheat flour, two kilos of dal, one litre oil, spices and salt. All safety norms are followed while distributing the rations."
Kanal, who is coordinating the endeavour, says, "Salman bhai is sponsoring the drive. We are doing our bit by deputing volunteers so that we can reach out to as many families as possible."
