Why Shoojit Sircar has been steadily postponing release of 3 small budget films?

After the success of Piku, filmmaker Shoojit Sircar is said to be toying with a few ideas for his next. However, he seems to have forgotten about three small films which have long been awaiting release. Sources in the know attribute the inordinate delay to the makers’ indifference.
“One of the projects titled Running Shaadi.com was supposed to hit theatres in June 2014, but the makers had no intention of releasing it under their banner. Shoojit’s production partner, Vikram Malhotra was trying to sell the film, but his asking price was so high, no distributor wanted to buy it. Gradually, Vikram got busy with Akshay Kumar-starrer Baby and Shoojit devoted himself to Piku. Now, they are both relatively free but are taking no initiative to pull the three films out of cold storage,” says a source associated with Running Shaadi.com. The film’s shoot wrapped up in 2013 and the edit was locked by March 2014. The film features Amit Sadh and Taapsee Pannu.
The other two films that are apparently also being neglected are Satra Ko Shaadi Hai and Banana. “The cast and crew are upset with Shoojit and Vikram. A few people had shown interest in buying the films, but the producers haven’t responded,” says another source.
Vikram explains Running Shaadi. com is on hold for the want of a solo release window. “It was slated to hit theatres in April 2015, but we jointly deferred it for two reasons. One, Amit’s film, Guddu Rangeela was set to be out around the same time. Two, we didn’t want to compete with big films. So, now, it has been pushed to early next year. Any film can be ready at any point, but choosing a release date is the producer’s call. The rest is speculation. Shoojit and I are equally responsible for releasing it and there’s no question of anyone else buying or taking over the project,” he says.
Ronnie Lahiri from Shoojit’s production company, Rising Sun Films, echoes Vikram’s sentiment and says releasing small films alongside bigger names would have been “a clear case of suicide. We were looking at the beginning of 2015, but changed our mind due to Guddu Rangeela. There is no point releasing a hero's films back to back unless he is Akshay Kumar or Salman Khan,” adds Lahiri.

His next directorial outing can wait. What is
occupying Shoojit Sircar’s mind currently is to first unleash three of
his productions, which are ready for release. Even as he is dabbling
with quite a few exciting offers to direct a film post the super-success
of Piku, he is hunting for the right timeline to release
Running Shaadi.com, Satra Ko Shaadi Hai and Banana.
Amit Sadh and Taapsee Pannu starrer Running Shaadi.com has been ready for over a year now. In fact, there were talks of bringing the film last August, but then it was pushed ahead. Satra Ko Shaadi Hai with Barun Sobti and Sapna Pabbi in lead was announced more than a year back. On the other hand, Banana, which features a bunch of 17-year-olds was announced a couple of years ago. Each of these films is in the last stage of production and now that Piku is through, Shoojit is channelising his energy into bringing these films past the finishing line.
Though as a director, Shoojit was expected to bring on floors 1911, a film on football with John Abraham as the leading man, it would be some time before it turns into reality. “I am working on many stories but I also have to release Running Shaadi.com, Satra Ko Shaadi Hai and Banana, which by the way is a tentative title,” says Shoojit, “I am quite busy with these films. Running Shaadi.com is in post production and we have been holding it for the right release. Satra Ko Shaadi Hai is in the final stages of editing. Banana is a small non-starcast film.”
He doesn’t mind waiting for some more time before bringing them on screen. “See, these are small films; finding the right window for them is very important. We are working on that though,” he promises.
When it comes to his own film 1911, Shoojit says, “I am working on the subject, but it is a long way to go since the scripting is still on. It is a sports film and needs a lot of work. Yes, John (Abraham) and I want to make this film on football but it would take time before everything is put together well on paper itself.”
Meanwhile, he is working with his steady writing partner Juhi Chaturvedi on something hard-hitting all over again after Madras Cafe. “Yes, both of us are onto something which is in the action thriller zone. Par time lagega. jab pakk jaayega, tab paros denge,” says Shoojit with a smile, before signing off.
Jhand, Banana, Fukrey, Fugly...Bollywood's going crazy with quirky titles

Take a look at some of the latest titles - Kuku Mathur Ki Jhand Ho Gayi, Yeh Hai Bakrapur , Mastram, Banana, Mango, Singh Is Bling, Shortcut Romeo, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Fukrey, Fugly, Hasmukh Pigal Gaya, Disco Valley, Heropanti -and you'll know what we are talking about. A couple of seasons ago you had gems like Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola, Shahrukh Bola Khoobsurat Hai Tu, F.A.L.T.U., EMI: Liya Hai To Chukana Padega.
Says Ekta Kapoor, co-producer of Kuku Mathur...“A film's title should not only be true to its story, but also have a huge intrigue factor to make it exciting and inviting for the audience."
However, some filmmakers have always had an affinity for funny titles. For example, the Mirza brothers - Aziz and Saeed - often opted for names like like Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyoon Aata Hai, Salim Langde Pe Mat Ro, Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani and Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman.
Even legendary filmmaker V Shantaram was known for unconventional titles like Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje and Jal Bin Machhli Nritya Bin Bijli. And who can forget comic genius and singer Kishore Kumar's Jhumroo, Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi and Badhti Ka Naam Dadhi?
While not all films with wacky titles have been hits, one can't deny their ability to tickle the audience's interest. Keeping that in mind, looks like the race for the craziest title is nowhere near the finishing line.
