Shahid Kapoor gets candid about professional disappointments, ex-girlfriends and sexting

With his next film inching closer to its date with the box-office, Shahid Kapoor has been dominating the airwaves but his latest turn for the chat show BFFs was decidedly more candid than the rest. In conversation with Neha Dhupia, the actor not only discussed two of his most famous exes, Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, but also looked back at professional disappointments. During the Colors Infinity show, the 38-year-old actor revealed that Priyanka, who tied the knot with beau Nick Jonas in December last year, invited him to the wedding reception in Mumbai.

When asked about Kareena, who married Saif Ali Khan in 2012, he said, “About Kareena I don’t remember, it was a while ago. I don’t think I was invited.” When asked to pick the better costar between Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat, he promptly went with the former. “I guess that’s because she and I needed to connect for our respective characters. I think I shared more with her because of that than I did with Ranveer,” he explained.

While on the topic of films, Shahid revealed that he was offered Rang De Basanti. “I regret not doing the film. They wanted me to play the role of Siddharth. I’d cried while reading the script and loved it but unfortunately couldn’t make time for it,” he rued.

But is there a film he wishes he hadn’t done? The actor admitted it had to be Shaandaar that also featured Alia Bhatt. “Even I was confused when I saw the film,” he chuckled.

Some of Shahid’s candour spilled over to his personal life as well, when he was almost coaxed into revealing who is the better sexter between him and his wife, Mira. “Equal hi hai, give and take hota hai. We are husband and wife so too much sexting is not really required,” he said, reluctant to spill the beans at first, finally revealing that he is the better one at it.

Katrina Kaif who was recently on Neha Dhupia’s chat show was asked to name a co-star who she cannot trust with a major secret. She instantly singled out former beau, Ranbir Kapoor.

That’s not all. When Neha asked her to name a co-star who cannot match up to her in dance, the actress quipped, tongue-in-cheek, “I want to say all of them.” She then went on to reminisce about the lyrical song, “Pashmina” in Fitoor, Abhishek Kapoor’s Indiansed Great Expectations. “I love him, he is fantastic, but I feel Adi (Aditya Roy Kapur) struggled a little bit… or a lot… in the song. It was a difficult song and he wouldn’t listen to me,” she flashbacked.

Saying that when she offered him advice, he didn’t want it, she pouted, “If you are trying to pick me up, lift me up, swing me around and do some jumps too, then I am going to be able to give you some help. But if you don’t want to listen on how to carry me, then what can be done.”

Seeing that she was in the mood to talk, the Colors Infinity show host then prodded her on who, in her opinion, would make for a really bad chat show host: Arjun Kapoor or Varun Dhawan? Katrina instantly replied, “Bad chat show host? Varun Dhawan, because I don’t think he will let you talk,” before bursting into peals of laughter.

Neha then prodded the actress’s BFF, Anaita Shroff-Adajania on who would make a really bad jodi with Katrina—Tiger Shroff or Ranveer Singh. Before Anaita could respond, Katrina butted in to say, “Oh, I think they will both actually look really good. I feel Tiger and I should do an action film, and with Ranveer it should be something irreverent, crazy and wacky!” Well said!

Kartik Aaryan and Jacqueline Fernandez, the new best friends in B-town, appeared on the chat show BFFs together during which host Neha Dhupia put the actress in a spot, prodding her on her relationship status. Always candid, Jackie asserted that she is currently single and went on to reveal some terrible experiences she has had in the past in matters of the heart.

She shared, that when she was a teenager, she caught her first love cheating on her. “He then dumped me. It was like a double whammy. My first boyfriend was my worst ex, he was terrible!” she shuddered.

When asked to pick a more suitable boy for his bestie, Kartik quipped, “He should look like Aditya Roy Kapur.” Huh? When Neha quizzed him on this Mr Right’s financial status, he retorted, “I don’t think she needs a bank balance, she already has so much.” However, he was quick to add, “The man’s IQ should match that of Salman Khan.”

Jackie, on her part, went on to reveal on the Colors Infinity show that besides Kartik, her other best friends are Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor, along with Sajid Nadiadwala and Sujoy Ghosh. Speaking about Sonam, she informed that after seeing a film of her, her friend was quick with her feedback. “It’s not like she’s harsh or anything, rather her criticism is very constructive.”

She added that even Kartik constantly advised her on what aspects of her craft she should work on and had even recommended some really good teachers to help her polish up on her dialect and performances. “I’ve often gone to him for advice,” she admitted.

Interestingly, the buddies were to feature in the Hindi remake of the Kannada campus drama, Kirik Party. But Kartik opted out over date issues.

Taapsee Pannu has found a close friend in her Manmarziyaan co-star Vicky Kaushal and now, she’s endorsing him as “marriage material”. During their recent turn on a Colors Infinity show BFFs hosted by Neha Dhupia, the actress introduced Vicky by exclaiming, “All men are a**h*les but Vicky is the best”. She went on to reveal that they bonded on Whatsapp even before meeting each other during the shoot of their Anurag Kashyap directorial. “I was in my blue hair and she in her red hair and I don’t know for some reason we just hit it off straight away. One striking thing about her personality is that she is immensely transparent as a person and she is a great talker. And I am a great listener,” Vicky complimented Taapsee back.

While the actress went on to say that she doesn’t find Vicky hot, in a game of ‘hook up, marry, kill’ among Varun Dhawan, Abhishek Bachchan and Vicky, she said she would “hook up with Varun, kill Abhishek and marry Vicky as he is more marriage material.”

While on the topic of marriage, Vicky said that he is yet to feel like he has arrived as no one has asked him to dance at a wedding yet. What would it cost to get him to do it? “For all the dulhas and dulhans out there, one rupee,” he exclaimed.

Later, when both, Vicky and Taapsee, were asked to reveal each other’s worst films, the Masaan actor named Taapsee’s Naam Shabana, while she rated his Sanju as her least favourite movie from Masaan, Uri: The Surgical Strike and the Sanjay Dutt biopic. Interestingly, when Vicky was asked to name his worst performance, he mentioned Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana! The Pink actress retorted saying, “Background, passing wale roles ki baat nahin kar rahe hain!” Neha wanted to know if he was there in the film! To this Vicky said, “Hey, poore teen scene the mere. I was playing the younger Kunal Kapoor.” Now, you know!

We told you how Ishaan Khatter was asked to choose his favourite among his brother Shahid Kapoor’s exes and he named Priyanka Chopra Jonas. Now, we have learnt that in the same episode of the Colors Infinity show BFFs, the Dhadak actor took off his shirt in response to a question asked by the host Neha Dhupia.

A source from the sets says that in the ‘Say It Or Strip It’ round, he was asked to pick a peer who has the weakest acting skills among Janhvi Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan, Tara Sutaria and Ananya Pandey.

“When the episode was shot, Student Of The Year 2 hadn’t released, so he said he can’t comment about Tara and Ananya’s acting skills. But when asked to choose between Janhvi and Sara, instead of answering, he chose to strip off his shirt.” Looks like Ishaan, who is said to be a close friend of his Dhadak heroine, did not want to upset her or the Kedarnath actress, with whom he might be acting in future. Smart!

In an almost unheard-of new friendship in B-Town, actors Rajkummar Rao and Ishaan Khatter made an appearance together on Neha Dhupia’s Colors Infinity chat show as BFFs and had a lot to say about each other.

Ishaan started off by quelling reports that he is dating his Dhadak co-star Janhvi Kapoor by saying, “I am in a relationship with coffee,” going on to reveal that he likes “girls who are honest, funny, real, relaxed, chilled out and passionate. I guess, I would like anyone to be that way. I look for the same qualities in a friend as well.” When prodded by Neha on the matter, Raj said with a chuckle, “Ishaan is a sensible boy. He can find his own perfect girl. He will, or maybe he already has.”

Incidentally, Raj is gearing up to work with Janhvi in Dinesh Vijan’s upcoming horror comedy, Rooh-Afza, which is expected to kick off in June in Uttar Pradesh. Ishaan had an important tip for Raj before he starts work with the actress. “He needs to be wary because she is obsessed with him. She is a keen learner. I think he must’ve already observed that about her and she genuinely is very fond of his work, as am I. Both of us once sat down and watched his scenes closely,” Ishaan said, finally throwing in the towel. “What tip can I give Raj, really? He’s been around and worked with different actors. He would know best. Perhaps he can give me some tips!”

Meanwhile, Raj spoke of the only time he “felt jealous” of the younger actor. It was when he got to work with the acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi in his first film, Beyond The Clouds.

That can’t be a compliment. Was he referring to her saying one thing and doing another, changing parties frequently or never keeping her promises?

Various B-Town good friends have been coming for a show based on best friends. But an unusual pairing that will be seen in one of the forthcoming shows is Ranveer Singh and Zoya Akhtar.

A source says, "It's interesting because few know that Ranveer and Zoya became great buddies after their last film Dil Dhadkne Do. They kept in touch after that and now Ranveer is in talks with the director for her next film. But Ranveer and Zoya were not supposed to come together. Initially, the programming team had thought about getting Ranveer with Arjun Kapoor, with whom he shares a good on and off screen chemistry, but it didn't work out because it was tough to coordinate their dates together. Then the team also thought of bringing Deepika Padukone and Ranveer together but that too didn't happen as there wasn't time, Ranveer was traveling so Deepika shot the first episode with Anaita Shroff Adjania."

Alia and Mahesh Bhatt may be the strongest father-daughter unit in Bollywood but they are polar opposites as professionals.

While the 23-year-old actress arrived at Mehboob Studios at 4pm sharp for a chat show, BFFs, dad didn’t need to show up until 5pm, joking that unlike his “super-pretty darling daughter”, all he had to do is change from one black shirt to another. When the cameras rolled, he couldn’t stop gushing over how radiant Alia, dressed in a tan leather skirt and denim jacket, looked. She spoke candidly about her penchant for dressing up, confessing that her fashion choices keep changing “but I really like Kangana Ranaut’s style”.

Bhatt Sr managed to embarrass her when he sighed over how lonely it would get for him and her mom (actress-filmmaker Soni Razdan) after Alia moved into her new apartment with sister Shaheen. But Alia sweetened the deal by admitting that she cannot move until she finds the right cook!

She also admitted to swiping right on Hrithik Roshan and Arjun Kapoor, left on Tiger Shroff, Sooraj Pancholi, Varun Dhawan and a definitive “right” on Katrina Kaif in a hypothetical situation that required her to be on an online dating app. However, on her relationship status with former beau, Sidharth Malhotra, she remained tightlipped. “We look hot together!” she exclaimed when the show's host Kamal Sidhu fished out a magazine with them on the cover. Even a question like “what would you do if you were stuck in an elevator with Sidharth” elicited a rather lacklustre “We would do what we always do… talk!” But she did add that they'd definitely work together in future.

The chat, which airs on Colors Infinity hit an emotional high when Alia recounted stories her dad shares at the dinner table — about how Sanjay Dutt and Kumar Gaurav saved him from jumping off a roof and how he misses his drinking days. She added that the best advice she’s ever received from him was, “never put off things for tomorrow”.

The 68-year-old veteran admitted his firstborn, Pooja, was his "favourite daughter" and an unfazed Alia brushed it off saying it's “no secret”. But then he made it a “Daddy” moment by saying if he could go back in time, he would have cast Alia in Dil Hai Ki Maanta Nahin. Awwww!
