Veteran actress Hema Malini is set to celebrate 60 years in Indian cinema with Hema Malini Live in Concert – The Dream Girl’s Diamond Jubilee Charity Concert, to be held on July 10 in Mumbai.

Ahead of the concert, Hema reflected on her six-decade journey in films at a press conference. She recalled how the milestone only truly sank in after show producer Anirudh Chawla pointed it out to her.

“When he pointed out that I had completed 60 years in cinema, my entire journey came rushing back to me — scene by scene. I remembered all the actors I had worked with, all the directors, photographers, cinematographers, comedians, countless heroes, producers, lyricists, music directors and all those unforgettable songs. Everything came flooding back because we discussed all these memories together,” she said.

Hema admitted she initially felt the timing wasn’t right to celebrate the milestone. “I said this was not the time, but Anirudh insisted it was, because we are already losing so many people from the industry. So many great artistes who were once with us are no longer here,” she added.

The evening will also pay tribute to her late husband, Dharmendra. “Dharam ji always shared a wonderful bond with the entire film fraternity, especially the workers. He treated everyone with warmth and affection,” she said.

Adding a charitable element to the celebrations, Rs. 10 lakh from the concert’s ticket proceeds will be donated to support members of CINTAA and FWICE.

The musical evening will feature performances by Kavita Krishnamurti, Suresh Wadkar, Anup Jalota, Anu Malik, Padmini Kolhapure, Vijayta Pandit, Sushma Shrestha, Shabbir Kumar and Sudesh Bhosle.

A star-packed tribute to Hema Malini’s six-decade journey
Several of Hema Malini’s longtime collaborators, including Jeetendra, Shatrughan Sinha, Rakesh Roshan, Javed Akhtar, Ramesh Sippy, Subhash Ghai, Umesh Mehra, Sanjay Khan and Anandji Virji Shah, are expected to attend the celebrations and will be felicitated for their contributions to her cinematic journey.

Sabki Bajegi Band: Open letter from director apologising to his Bollywood friends

BOMBAY TIMES (April 30, 2015)

RJ Anirudh Chawla, who has directed one of India's first reality films Sabki Bajegi Band, produced by Yusuf Shaikh, had recorded candid conversations on sex and relationships of some Page 3 and B-Town celebs at a private party hosted by him, which he later converted into a feature film that is now ready for release. In a letter to his Bollywood friends whom he has taken advantage of, he says:

Dear Guys,
I am really sorry about what I did last year at my farmhouse party. I betrayed your trust and breached your privacy by recording on hidden cameras our intimate conversations about your past relationships, affairs, marriages, sexual fantasies, rivalries and kinks. I did so purely out of the greed for sensationalism.

After you threatened to sue me, I was forced to hold back the footage and sign a legal document that I will never release the footage. But because I believe the world needs to know the truth about Bollywood and its darkest sexual secrets, I recreated the events of that night and changed your names to protect your identities. I'm now ready to release India's first reality film, Sabki Bajegi Band.

Believe me, I have made no attempt to malign or judge you. In fact, I hope that this film inspires Indian audiences to go home and talk openly about sex, love, marriage with their friends and family the way you have so bravely shared with me that night.

I hope we continue to be friends. No hard feelings please! And ya, it's about time sex comes out of the closet in India!

Yours truly,
Anirudh Chawla

Sabki Bajegi Band, produced by Yen Movies and presented by Percept Pictures, releases on May 1.

Sabki Bajegi Band spoofs Bollywood affairs with a song

MUMBAI MIRROR (April 20, 2015)

Sabki Bajegi Band, India's first reality film, has been courting controversies ever since its trailer was launched a week back. Its director RJ Anirudh Chawla has revealed that the film is a dramatised version of his house party last year where he recorded on candid camera extremely intimate conversations of his bollywood star pals, regarding their affairs, rivalries, marriages and sexual fantasies! When the Bollywood stars threatened to sue him for breach of privacy, RJ Anirudh was forced to change their names and recreate the events in the film. And now, the director is prepared to wade into even more controversial waters--he has just released the theme song of the film--Bajaane aaye sabki band--a hilarious tongue in cheek spoof of all the colourful affairs of Bollywood stars through the years. The song is more like an annual issue of a gossip magazine, featuring Kjo-SRK, Abhi-Sallu-Ash, Lolo, Bips, Akki-Piggy-Ravs-Shilpa, Duggu-Bebo, and Run-b-Kat...the song spares no star in the last 20 years! And after the tremendous response it has got online where its gone viral, RJ Anirudh plans to release a song sequel for the first time-featuring gen next of bollywood!

In a very smart move, director RJ Anirudh--who has written the song himself (with vocals by Tochi Raina and Chintu Bhosle, Asha Bhosle's grandson)-has refrained from using the real names of the super stars..but the pet names and the film references are only too obvious. Sample this: KJO ko kuch kuch hota hai..SRK, do u understand?...liya ash ne dabangg stand, kiya sallu ko tata and..abhi khush hai abhi ke saath..lolo, i am sure does understand---when bebo met mr fida..ishq vishq hua, no vivah....kat ko bahut dogs mile, sheela ke peeche sabke duum hile.

The flamboyantly outrageous video of the song has been made by a fan of the film, as part of a karaoke song contest! Of course, RJ Anirudh claims that the song is a tribute to bollywood's grandest “silly-sillas“ and that he didn't mean to offend anyone..and anyway, all this is in the public domain anyway..but it remains to be seen whether bollywood appreciates this tribute and laughs it off or as Anirudh says, “bajaos my band“! The film Sabki Bajegi Band a Percept Pictures presentation of a Yen Movies production is produced by Yusuf Shaikh and written and directed by RJ Anirudh Chawla releases all over in cinemas on 1st May 2015.

Sabki Bajegi Band to 'expose' Bollywood celebrities

BOMBAY TIMES (April 7, 2015)

Sabki Bajegi Band promises to expose some of Bollywood's darkest sex secrets. RJ Anirudh Chawla, who has directed this film, apparently got the idea after he hosted a farmhouse party last year. Unknown to his celebrity guests comprising Bollywood actors and models, he reportedly placed 12 cameras in secret locations to record their intimate conversations that revolved around sexuality, kinks, fantasies, marriages, affairs and rivalries.

The raw, uncensored footage was so scandalous that the radio jockey decided to turn it into the country's first reality film! It is being said that when the celebrities heard about the film 'revealing all', they threatened to sue him for breach of privacy. So, he devised a novel way of presenting what he had recorded to an audience that he knew would enjoy it. Names were changed and events were dramatised using actors like Swara Bhaskar, Sumeet Vyas, Amol Parashar, Alekh Sangal and Aman Uppal.

Produced by Yusuf Shaikh and directed by Anirudh, the film has a tagline that says it all: No mercy, only controversy. The teasers, which use blurred images and dialogue posters, have generated curiosity, as has the film's trailer, which released recently.

Sabki Bajegi Band, produced by YEN Films and presented by Percept Pictures, releases May 1.
