Freezing my eggs gave me assurance, a back up plan-Akansha Ranjan Kapoor

A few days back, actor Akansha Ranjan Kapoor opened up on Instagram about her decision to freeze her eggs, calling it a “liberating and necessary step” taken purely for herself. “I did it for my peace of mind,” she wrote. In a chat with us, Akansha talks about the narrow window between being “too young to be married and suddenly too old to have kids,” describing it as a three- to four-year span that often feels rushed for women today.
“My generation is slower with family planning compared to earlier ones. Freezing my eggs gave me assurance, a back-up plan, allowing me to continue life freely while having a plan for motherhood,” says the 32-year-old.
A simple test prompted her decision. “I had my AMH (Anti-Müllerian Hormone) test and saw my levels were low. I was producing fewer eggs. That made me take this step without thinking twice,” she shares, urging women to consult doctors and plan ahead.
The procedure required a two-week break from work and was physically demanding: “For an actor, it’s difficult to pause everything, but I had to. My support system — my mom, sister (actor Anushka Ranjan), and friends — were with me throughout.”
The actor, known for projects including, Guilty (2020) and Monica, O My Darling (2022), also addressed industry perceptions around motherhood, noting how “top actresses continue to thrive post-motherhood”, yet admitting she was “hurt by comments suggesting a career always declines after having children”.

Winning praise for her village girl act in Gram Chikitsalay, Akansha Ranjan Kapoor wants the industry to look beyond her social media following and past urban girl roles
Priyanka Sharma (MID-DAY; May 17, 2025)
Whirlwind is how Akansha Ranjan Kapoor describes the past week since Gram Chikitsalay dropped online. While the actor was nervous about how the audience would receive her village girl act, she has been left pleasantly surprised.
“The reaction has been good, and it’s getting better every day. Seeing people make memes and talking about my character means it stayed with them,” she smiles.
Kapoor plays a doctor in the Amazon Prime Video dramedy, which also stars Amol Parashar and Anandeshwar Dwivedi. The role is a departure from the upper-class, urban characters that she mostly played before, from Ray (2021) to Monica O My Darling (2022).
“People are being able to [picture] me in this role. I bumped into a casting director who said, ‘Who cast you for this? I wouldn’t have even thought of you for such a role.’ So, I hope people can see me [in a new light].”
While Kapoor, who debuted with Guilty (2020), is grateful for the opportunities so far, she wishes that casting is practised on the basis of talent, and not social media following or perception.
“I hope people take a chance on me, and let go of the algorithms and metrics. When I debuted, I wanted my work to do the talking and didn’t want to get into the social media popularity rat race. Unfortunately, having acting chops isn’t the only requirement anymore. I’m trying to keep up with the market demands while being honest with my craft.”

Love is in the air for Monica O My Darling (2022) actor Akansha Ranjan Kapoor and director Sharan Sharma. We have learnt that the two have been dating for over six months now.
Ever since the beginning of their relationship in the second half of last year, the two have kept their relationship low-profile. From what we have gathered, Kapoor and Sharma often travel together and are each other’s plus one at industry parties.
“They are dating for sure. She gushes every time you talk about Sharan or even mention his name. I don’t think they are even trying to hide their relationship. In fact, they are quite open about it, at least in their social circle,” a source close to the actor shares.
When contacted, the Guilty (2020) actor maintained a “no comment” stance. The Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl (2020) director, who is currently filming his next, Mr And Mrs Mahi, hadn’t got back to us till the time of going to press.
The two have never addressed any queries on their personal lives in the past. Only recently, Sharma posted a selfie with Kapoor, 29, that led to a flurry of cute comments from their friends.

BOMBAY TIMES (November 11, 2022)
Akansha Ranjan Kapoor made her acting debut with Guilty and followed it up with the web anthology Ray. The actress, who is all set for the release of the film Monica O My Darling on Netflix, talks about how filmmakers have reacted to her role after watching the film at a special screening.
A special screening of Monica O My Darling, which drops on OTT today, was held recently. What was the response to your role?
There was a screening for people in the industry, after which I got a message from Anurag Kashyap, who said he loved my performance. Even Sriram Raghavan sir met me at an event and praised me. That’s when I felt that maybe my character, Nikki, has been received well and will make an impact.
What kind of roles do you want to feature in?
If you are hung up on a particular kind of role, you limit the possibilities. My only criteria is to do movies wherein filmmakers take me seriously as an actor and feature me in roles that will stay with the audience.
So far you have worked in the OTT space. Any plans to step on the big screen?
I am extremely grateful for OTT and where it has gotten me today. But, of course, who doesn’t want to see themselves in a cinema hall full of audience cheering for them. Hopefully, that will happen soon.
Are you happy with your showbiz journey so far?
I believe I’m a great manifester. I got an opportunity to work with directors and actors I’ve looked up to — be it actors like Rajkummar Rao, Radhika Apte and Kiara Advani or filmmakers like Vasan Bala. I have done ad films with Alia Bhatt, Yami Gautam, Katrina Kaif and one of my favourite directors — Abhishek Varman. I have a long way to go, but I am proud of my journey and excited to see what lies ahead.

Sugandha Rawal (HINDUSTAN TIMES; July 28, 2021)
Actor Akansha Ranjan Kapoor is enjoying her journey in the OTT world, but she does miss the excitement and feeling of a big-screen debut.
Last year, when the lockdown was imposed, she made her debut with Guilty, which premiered on an OTT platform, and her second project, an anthology series, Ray, also released on the web.
“I am more than happy my projects are being released on OTT because more people get to watch it. They can also watch it 10 years from now. So, especially at this point of time, I think releasing on OTT is great,” Kapoor admits.
However, she says this experience is accompanied by an “incomplete feeling”. “I remember everyone asking me, ‘How excited are you that your film is releasing tomorrow?’. And I was like, ‘I don’t even feel that it is releasing tomorrow’, ” says the 25-year-old.
The actor further adds, “[The next day], I went for lunch with my girlfriends to celebrate and I bumped into people, who were like, ‘Aye! Your film is releasing today’. That is not a normal release day. Normally, you are busy promoting and working, and I’m just going for lunch. That feeling was very unnerving. The feeling on release is supposed to be high but it was just another day for me.”
For Kapoor, it was very upsetting “because everything that comes with a release — the fear and excitement — wasn’t there”.
That said, she is grateful that her projects are releasing at least, and has made peace with the fact that “most of the projects will continue to release on digital platforms for another year”.
“I’m very content with where I am in my life. I am excited about where I am today and grateful. And when my film opens on the big screen toh double excited hungi,” she ends on an optimistic note.

Titas Chowdhury (HINDUSTAN TIMES; March 20, 2020)
Akansha Ranjan Kapoor, who recently marked her debut with a web film, says that acting has always been her big dream. Despite being friends with a young brigade of actors and coming from a film lineage, she says that she had to audition for her part in the film. “I auditioned for Guilty without knowing much about the project other than the fact that it was a digital film. Once I got shortlisted, they asked me to come for a meeting and then told me that I was locked. I had to wait for only 13 days as against any other film where you need to wait for a month or so,” elaborates Kapoor, who reveals that her first audition was for Lekar Hum Deewana Dil (2014).
The young actor says that she’s happy to be part of the industry at this time. “It’s such a great time to be an actor. Nobody cares about how pretty you are or the kind of body type that you have. What matters is that you are a good actor. The Dangal (2016) girls (Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra) are doing so well. If you are a good performer, you’ll be respected for your work, and eventually, you’ll get more work,” says the 26-year-old.
Going ahead, Kapoor shares that she would want to strike a balance between doing commercial Hindi films and the ones that send out important social messages. “It’s always better if you can bring about a change in society. Actors and cinema have a way of influencing society. That being said, I won’t deny the fact that I want to do a mainstream film and there’s no two ways about it,” she says and adds, “But thankfully, the lines between commercial and content-driven films are blurring now. Thappad is a shining example of that, and I’m desperate to work with Zoya (Akhtar), Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Anubhav Sinha.”

Natasha Coutinho (MUMBAI MIRROR; May 20, 2019)
Aparshakti Khurana who was last seen on screen in the Kartik Aaryan-Kriti Sanon romcom, Luka Chuppi, has now been paired with Alia Bhatt’s bestie, Akansha Ranjan Kapoor, who is making her acting debut. She will feature in the music video of Ankit Tiwari’s single “Tere Do Naina”. The video was shot in Lucknow over two days by Kookie Gulati. Ankit describes the Gourov-Roshin composition as a melancholic ballad, “the perfect song for monsoon, the season of love”.
Akansha adds, “I heard it and I was sold on it. Aparshakti is a good friend and Lucknow is a beautiful city with a great cuisine. I couldn’t ask for a better first experience.”
Any acting tips from Alia or actor-sister Anushka? “I didn’t think too much and only focussed on what the director wanted. The narrative was sweet and everything was pretty and filmy. It’s going to be the new love anthem, the new ‘Galiyan’ (from Ek Villain),” she promises.

Alia Bhatt flew to Delhi on Wednesday to attend bestie Devika Advani’s wedding with Varun Jain. For the cocktails-and-sangeet ceremony, the actress opted for a floral lehenga and played a bridesmaid to the hilt.
A guest at the event informs, “Alia got emotional as she spoke about the bride-to-be and admitted that she was trying hard not to cry. She also recounted their time together as kids, when they would enact scenes from films. Devika insisted on being the actress and Alia would have to play the hero.”
Later, the duo’s nostalgia trip continued with a performance on the Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and AR Rahman song “Chanda Suraj Laakho Taare” on which they had first danced 20 years ago. Other songs that were a part of the night’s playlist included “Coca-Cola Tu” from Luka Chuppi, “Zingat” from Sairat and “Mahi Ve” from Kal Ho Na Ho. For the mehendi on Thursday, the girls, including Akansha Ranjan Kapoor and Kripa Mehta, rallied around the bride for selfies. Alia will attend the wedding today and will return to Mumbai on Saturday to resume shooting for Brahmastra with Ranbir Kapoor at a Film City set.
