Reporting Live, which has released today on Netflix, stars Parineeti Chopra as a fearless journalist who attempts to expose the illegal sand mining in rural Maharashtra. The topic is very relevant. Director Dhruv Tripathi manages to bring together such an ensemble cast and gives all of them author-backed roles. Hence, they are memorable even if some of them lack sufficient screen time. The film explains the issue of illegal sand mafia in a simple manner and also shows how cops, politicians, IAS officers and even section of the media turn a blind eye to the wrongdoings for obvious reasons. On the flipside, the film begins on a chilling note before going into flashback mode. However, it gives away what's possibly going to happen in the film at some point. A few scenes are convenient and some dialogues are childish. Moreover, though Parineeti Chopra's performance is fine, she seems a bit mature for the part. A younger actor might have been better suited to the role of a character who is innocent and idealistic about the responsibilities of news channels. Deven Bhojani, meanwhile, is too good; Adil Hussain and Shekhar Suman are dependable as always. Nasser (R Velraj) has a great entry scene and leaves a mark. Amol Palekar is memorable while Pitobash Tripathy, Saswata Chatterjee, Prachee Shah Paandya, Samir Kochhar and Geeta Agarwal Sharma are fine. All in all, Reporting Live is worth watching for the subject and fast-paced narrative.
