Actor Sanchita Ugale, known for her work in television shows Kumkum Bhagya, Wagle Ki Duniya and Dilwali Dulha Le Jayegi, died by suicide on June 14. She was 22.

According to an NDTV report, the incident took place at her residence in Sai Santoshi Building in Aachole Village, Nalasopara East. Police said Sanchita had locked herself inside her bedroom and was later found hanging from a ceiling fan. Family members and local residents rushed her to Maharashtra’s Vasai-Virar Municipal Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Following the incident, police reached the spot and carried out the necessary procedures. An inquest report was prepared and the body was sent for post-mortem examination. Based on a complaint filed by her father, Machhindra Ugale, Achole Police registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) on June 15.

Police officials said the exact reason behind the incident is yet to be determined and investigations are underway.

On the film front, Sanchita was part of projects like Chhaava (2025) and Silence 2: The Night Owl Bar Shootout (2024).

The death of a 22-year-old actress, Sanchita Ugale, in Nalasopara East has sparked questions and triggered a police investigation after she was found hanging at her residence on June 14. While police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and are awaiting the postmortem report, family members have alleged that she was facing pressure from influential figures in the entertainment industry.

According to the Achole police, the actress was found hanging at her residence in Sai Santoshi Apartment, Nalasopara. Family members reportedly knocked on her room door but received no response. They subsequently broke open the door, found her unconscious and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

“On June 14, between 7 pm and 7:30 pm, we suspect that the 22-year-old woman took the extreme step of hanging herself. An ADR has been registered and the body has been sent for postmortem. Appropriate action will be taken if anyone is found responsible,” an Achole police officer said.

Police said the investigation is being carried out from all angles and further action will depend on the findings of the postmortem report. The actress’s father, Machindra Ungale, has not raised any objections so far, they added.

However, Akash Ungale, the actress’s cousin, claimed that she had been under pressure from influential people within the entertainment industry. He alleged that she maintained a secondary social media account where she frequently posted videos related to late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, whose death anniversary also falls on June 14.

“I will not name the individuals, but she was facing pressure from influential people in the industry. She had a secondary account containing several videos related to Sushant Singh Rajput,” Akash said.

He further claimed that she had recently posted a video captioned “June 14 again”, referring to the coincidence of the dates. “Her secondary Instagram account also had posts featuring Sushant Singh Rajput, with captions expressing admiration for him. We come from an ordinary background and only want a fair investigation. She faced significant challenges while trying to establish herself in the industry,” he said.

The actress had worked in television serials and had also appeared in the film Chhaava, according to her family.

“She worked extremely hard to enter the industry. It is tragic that she died at such a young age. Her parents are in deep shock, and we only seek a fair investigation,” Akash added.

Police said they are awaiting the postmortem report before deciding the further course of action. “We are investigating the matter from all angles and are awaiting the postmortem findings,” an officer said.
