Razaa is a short film directed by Pooja Tolani, writer of Sacred Games, Lust Stories and Sarfira while Suresh Triveni, director of Tumhari Sulu, Daldal, Subedaar etc. is one of the producers. The 14-minute-40-second short focuses on a mother and daughter at a gynaecologist’s clinic, where they have arrived for an abortion. The mother-daughter dynamic makes for a dramatic watch and at the same time, the film mirrors the harsh realities of life. The last 5 minutes are very unexpected and take the film to dizzying heights. Interestingly, there’s no background music, not even during the end credits. The Asghar Farhadi style of setting and filmmaking works best here. Speaking of performances, Geetanjali Kulkarni, as expected, rocks the show. Bhumika Sharma also gives an equally strong performance. Archana Patel is fine in a supporting but crucial role. All in all, Razaa deserves to be seen for its message and storytelling.
