Karisma Kapoor has stepped into a more measured phase of her career. Having witnessed the industry across decades, the Zubeidaa actress reflects on how her relationship with work has gradually shifted from pace to purpose, choosing depth over visibility.
She shares, “Work today is about passion and purpose. I’ve grown up in the industry, and I’ve had the privilege of doing all kinds of roles, from commercial blockbusters to experimental films. Now, it’s less about being everywhere and more about choosing projects that resonate with me.”
‘I value time more and I’m selective about projects’
At this stage, Karisma’s choices are as much about personal space as they are about professional satisfaction, with the actress admitting that time has become her biggest filter.
She explains, “Earlier, there was a lot of momentum since you were working non-stop, going from one set to another. Now, I value time more. I’m selective because I want every project to feel worth stepping out for while also giving enough time to family. It’s about the script, yes, but also the people and the intention behind the story.”
‘I LOVE HOW STORYTELLING HAS EVOLVED WITH OTT PLATFORMS’
While Karisma is embracing new formats, her love for big-screen cinema remains unchanged. She says, “The big screen has its own magic, it’s where I began, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. But I also love how storytelling has evolved with OTT platforms. The web gives scope for complex narratives and diverse characters. And for someone like me who’s being choosy about what to take up next, it’s an exciting landscape. Having said that, I am not leaving the big screen ever.”
‘FASHION IS A FORM OF SELF-EXPRESSION’
Alongside her work, Karisma’s fashion sensibility has inspired people across age groups. “Fashion for me has always been a form of self-expression. I’ve never chased trends, but instead gravitated towards what feels authentic and comfortable. I feel less is more. My style is a mix of nostalgia, with a little touch of today, and my comfort. It feels wonderful to know that people connect with that balance and find inspiration in it. I’m grateful that my choices resonate across generations ‑ it’s both humbling and motivating. Fashion is ever evolving, but when you stay true to yourself, that authenticity never goes out of style,” she shares.
