BORDER 2 showed good gains on its third Tuesday as it collects 2.50 crore nett aided by the discounted Tuesday rates. This was the first time in its run that BORDER 2 sold tickets at the discounted Tuesday rates. The film has collections of over 20 crore nett in the third week and is heading for a third week collection of 23.50 crore nett plus.
There is likely to be a drop on Wednesday due to the jump on Tuesday but its more about where the film can land on Friday as that will determine how much more the film can add till Eid. It does not matter much as the job is done and the film is a SUPER HIT but the longer you stay in theatres, the better.
The lower business was expected in South India but it is the Maharashtra and Gujarat area which has stopped this film being a BLOCKBUSTER especially the latter. The Gujarat/Saurashtra belt will do 30 crore nett which is good but considering business in other Hindi belt areas it could have done better. Mumbai circuit stands at 71 crore nett while Delhi/UP is excellent at 75 crore nett.
The collections of BORDER 2 till date are as follows.
Week One - 2,17,61,00,000
Friday - 10,25,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 16,25,00,000 apprx

BORDER 2 did well in its third week collecting 23 crore nett plus which now takes the film to 307 crore nett in three weeks. The drop in week three is 65% which is a little better than the second week but that is expected as the film was coming out of a week with a huge holiday for Republic Day. The drop for the film will be bigger this week due to the new release, O'ROMEO.
The job is done though and the film is a SUPER HIT with BLOCKBUSTER collections in Delhi/UP, East Punjab, Rajasthan and Bihar. There will be circuits like Nizam/Andhra and Mysore which will do less than HIT business but the film's target audience is concentrated in the Hindi speaking belts. Those areas have out performed and when this happens, it also means a long term appreciation on satellite.
Also it has to be said that the collections are organic which is not the case with many of the films which do the bigger collections and today even the some of the smallest films have the fiddle. The comparisons will come with GADAR 2 but in terms of business, it is pretty much similar to what BORDER (1997) was against GADAR (2001). The difference being one is fiction allowing all cinematic liberties as possible and the other being a War film which has certain restrictions. It was the same all those years back and its pretty much the same still.

The collections of the holdover releases BORDER 2 and MARDAANI 3 came down on Friday due to a heavy reductions of screens and competition from the new releases. BORDER 2 collected around 80 lakhs nett and MARDAANI 3 was around 65 lakhs nett which is considerably lower than the previous day but both should make big gains today.
Despite the drop, it does not alter the situation much for either film as BORDER 2 is a SUPER HIT standing at around 307.50 crore nett and should excel on Saturday and Sunday. The film has been aided with a Republic Day release as collections in and around that period were extraordinary which has pushed the film to a 300 crore nett plus number.
