After losing his younger brother and creative partner Wajid Khan during the pandemic, composer Sajid Khan has been quietly reshaping his music and his identity. Known for years as one half of the Sajid-Wajid duo, he now speaks of rebranding himself as Wajid-Sajid — a reversal that is emotional rather than symbolic. Talking about the void he feels, Sajid says, “I miss him a lot. Everything I do now is guided by what he always wished for.”

For Sajid, placing Wajid’s name first is an act of remembrance and gratitude. “Throughout our journey, we received immense love and respect from our listeners, and I want to give that love back. That is why Wajid’s name comes first, then mine — it’s my way of honouring him and keeping his spirit alive.”

Sajid says he is now looking forward to making music beyond Bollywood. “We always believed that our style, understanding of music and sound are at par with global music. That’s why we are looking forward to creating for the international market as well,” he shares.

‘AI cannot replace the instinct, emotion and sensitivity of the human mind’
As the industry grapples with AI, digital tools and questions of authenticity, Sajid remains clear. “Technology is meant for progress and AI is no different. But no technology can replace the instinct, emotion and sensitivity of the human mind,” he says, adding, “Tools can assist, but they can never create the soul of a performance.”
