(Crisp) Movie Review: THE HOUSEMAID by FENIL SETA

The Housemaid is a story of a woman who finds herself in trouble after her dream job becomes her biggest nightmare. This film reminds one of the earlier Emraan Hashmi thrillers like Murder, Aksar, The Train, Zeher etc. The plot is intriguing; from the very start, director Paul Feig ensures one gets an eerie feeling about the family as well as their palatial mansion. There's not a single dull moment as a lot is happening in the film every minute. One might guess the suspense beforehand, but it still works. However, the climax is weak; it is very, very convenient and erodes some of the impact. Sydney Sweeney (Millie) is apt for the part because of her image and talent and she does full justice. Amanda Seyfried (Nina) plays a very challenging role with ease. Brandon Sklenar (Andrew) is aptly cast and performs ably. All in all, The Housemaid is a gripping thriller. It also serves as a reminder to our industry that we should bring back such thrillers.
