Border 2 movie review: A worthy successor to a beloved war classic
Box Office India Trade Network

BORDER 2 had a phenomenal Monday as it managed to make gains as compared to the Sunday. The film was on a rampage on in many areas across the Hindi belts and setting new highs or very close. The film was competing with the records PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE in the Northern and Central belts though Mumbai circuit is far less but the Allu Arjun-starrer there was something else. The other film, which had such high numbers in North and Central India, was GADAR 2 and they came on Tuesday when it was August 15 and Independence Day.

The Republic Day holiday saw single screens record outstanding figures and these were huge on Sunday itself and the growth on Monday has come from the smaller centres and many single screens that hardly collect. It will be the holiday factor in play here and what helped was the film is apt for Republic Day. The film collected a huge 56.50 crore nett on Monday which takes the film to almost 175 crore nett in four days.

The film is now actually ahead of GADAR 2 as that film had around 170 crore nett in four days but there the big holiday was yet to come and the comparison with GADAR 2 will come more clearer in the second week as that film held up really well. BORDER 2 has to do the same and the chances are there due to the appreciation the film has gained.

The film is sure to hold up well on Tuesday which should confirm that the film is a BLOCKBUSTER and then its about where it goes on from here. Certain circuits, which saw an average initial response, are going to hold up extremely well on Tuesday. There is not much competition around and its just about piling the collections up over the next few weeks.

The collections of BORDER 2 till date are as follows.
Friday - 29,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 36,50,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 52,00,00,000 apprx
Monday - 56,50,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 1,74,50,00,000 apprx
-----------------------------------
BORDER 2 recorded the highest first Monday in history and became the second film to cross 50 crore nett on Monday though it was a big national holiday for Republic Day. The only other film to hit 50 crore nett on Monday is TIGER 3 but that film was a Sunday release, making it the second day for the Salman Khan-starrer

Despite a very so so twelve months for the industry, there are still four films which have managed to be among the top Mondays of all time, namely, BORDER 2, SAIYAARA, CHHAAVA and DHURANDHAR. The last three had a non holiday Monday and yet, went over the 20 crore nett mark. The task for BORDER 2 was never the Monday but the Tuesday and its about being among the top ten Tuesdays ever or even better and no doubt it will up there somewhere. Tuesday is a normal day for BORDER 2 after the big holiday on Monday.

The highest non holiday Monday is PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE witch an extraordinary 40 crore nett while for an original Hindi its GADAR 2 but that was a Monday between a Sunday and a national holiday. So, it became a mini holiday for the box office though officially, it was a normal working day. ANIMAL is probably the highest Monday on fair value for an original Hindi film.

The top first Mondays of all time are as follows.
1. Border 2 - 56.50 crore apprx (Holiday)
2. Tiger 3 - 56.08 crore (Holiday, Day Two)
3. Pushpa 2 - The Rule - 40.74 crore
