Border 2: Sunny Deol-starrer beats opening day collection of Dhurandhar
Box Office India Trade Network

BORDER 2 had a good first day as it collected around 29-30 crore nett on the first day with very good collections in Delhi/UP, East Punjab, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Bihar with let down being Gujarat. It was less in Maharashtra and South but that was sort of expected and it was Gujarat where around 1-1.50 crore nett more was expected. However, its possible that North India regional feel kept the film low.

West Bengal was 1.75 crore which is actually the standout performance as films with a North feel don't perform there barring some exceptions. This number is pretty huge though there was a holiday there and it remains to be seen what happens here on Saturday. If this circuit works, the film is sure to do well. Bihar was another excellent circuit with around 1.65 crore nett. The other circuits which have done excellent were expected to do the numbers.

The weaker side is Mumbai and it remains to be seen where this goes as potentially, there is upside here especially in the Gujarat pocket. Overall, the film has got a good opening day and it will be about what level the film can go to Sunday. The growth on Saturday will come in some pockets but these sort of circuits like West Bengal and Bihar, which have scored so well, may be flat or even down which can curtail some of that growth.

The film looks set to do well but parallels will be drawn with GADAR 2 which is a huge comparison as it created history. Going by the first day collections, the appeal of that film was wider and that's not to say this film is not wide as multiplex chains are just a little over 40% contribution. But its just not as much as GADAR 2 which had insane collections in the smaller centres across the country. It is that rare film from the Hindi film industry in recent times which saw such high occupancy from the first show.

The film also managed good numbers overseas with Australia being very good though North America will be affected a little with late arrival of prints.
---------------------------------
BORDER 2 recorded the second highest opening day collection in the 2025-26 period with a similar number to CHHAAVA but based on real collections, it is probably the highest number of the year as CHHAAVA had feeding. There is also DHURANDHAR and SKY FORCE, which also have considerable adds as well. There are others as well but today as its done pretty much openly and its become pretty normal, the nominal amounts don't really matter; its only the ones which make a major difference to the figures.

BORDER 2 should have got over the 30 crore nett mark and actually its probably the heavy rain in North and later arrival of prints at many places which has kept it a few lakhs under. The fifteen openings of the last year or so are listed below and although there are a few good openers including BORDER 2, there is nothing that has really opened big in the last 13 months. In fact the best openings would actually be films like SAIYAARA, TERE ISHK MEIN and EK DEEWANE KI DEEWANIYAT in terms of there costs against the initial day.

These three films also highlight where the film industry should be going in terms of that bread and butter film which is the need of the day at the moment. The big ones will come every few months but a TERE ISHK MEIN or EK DEEWANE KI DEEWANIYAT or two of them every month puts the industry back on a strong footing and actually its not much to ask for. Its not like asking for SHOLAY or GADAR every month. You can discount SAIYAARA as a one off, the zone of the love story needs to copied but the collections (day one or lifetime) are just one of those things which can happen rarely and not regularly.
