Border 2: Army officer deployed to guide Varun Dhawan in his portrayal of a jawan
Box Office India Trade Network

BORDER 2 had an excellent first week as it collected 218 crore nett plus in its first seven days. The film did have a drop on Wednesday but that was just the film equaling itself after the holiday weekend. Tuesday saw a superb hold as it got some post holiday advantage but this was in some circuits which saw very limited drops from day one. This equaled up the next day which led to the fall which was higher than normal.

The film has collected less than GADAR 2 which earned 282 crore nett in its first week but the opening itself was around 25% less and the week has also ended around 25% less. That is still a great result as GADAR 2 was an extraordinary HIT. To maintain this gap of 25% in the long run would be difficult as GADAR 2 was far stronger going into its second Friday.

The film has scored very well in most of the mass circuits and better than many of the big films as far as the first week goes. It could well be among the top five films in week one in these circuits. Overall the film has done very well and now its about where it can go from here. There is minor competition in the form of MARDAANI 3 but that is for a different audience and its better business is likely to come from centres where BORDER 2 is doing less.

The collections of BORDER 2 till date are as follows.
Friday - 29,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 36,50,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 52,00,00,000 apprx
Monday - 56,50,00,000 apprx
Tuesday - 20,00,00,000 apprx
Wednesday - 13,00,00,000 apprx
Thursday - 11,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 2,18,50,00,000 apprx

BORDER 2 had the ninth highest first week collection of all time and if we count original Hindi films only then it will be the sixth highest behind PATHAAN, JAWAN, ANIMAL, GADAR 2 and STREE 2 only. There will be circuits competing with the bigger films, excluding PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE, and it could have the second or third highest first week totals in a couple of circuits.

PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE is the phenomena as it leads the first week numbers by a margin and this was achieved with very limited business in South India. BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION remains the only film in the list from the pre pandemic era and these figures indicate that these two South films are the biggest we have seen in the last ten years or so. The footfalls also indicate this but this phase where some South films did well has started to crack as core areas, where these films do well, have become indifferent to these films over the last year or so.

It maybe the content has not been right but there does seem to be signs that getting the audience to theatres will be tougher for South films then say a few years back. For the time being it remains to be seen if any film this year can chase down the 360 crore nett of PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE in week one.

The top ten opening weeks of all time are as follows.
1. Pushpa 2 - The Rule - 3,60,92,00,000
2. Pathaan - 3,17,06,00,000
3. Jawan - 3,15,59,00,000
4. Animal - 2,92,36,00,000
5. Gadar 2 - 2,81,44,00,000
6. Stree 2 - 2,64,60,00,00
7. KGF - Chapter 2 - 2,50,51,00,000
8. Baahubali 2: The Conclusion - 2,46,47,00,000
9. Border 2 - 2,18,50,00,000 apprx
10. Chhavva - 2,10,59,00,000
