Dhurandhar movie review: Ranveer Singh's film feels overwhelming for its length
Box Office India Trade Network

DHURANDHAR had a insane third weekend of 87.50 crore nett with the film being over 30 crore nett on Saturday and Sunday. These are the sort of weekend numbers that many big films don't see outside the first week and here they are coming in the third weekend. The weekend is so huge that it has almost reached the 91 crore nett third week record of PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE. It just needs four crores more to cover and that is probably done while this is being written.

The total collections of the film stand at 525 crore nett now which leaves only CHHAAVA, JAWAN and STREE 2 ahead in terms of original HINDI films. These three will be done in a matter of 2-3 days as the film heads towards that 600 crore nett first week which will be a first for an original Hindi film. The film is certain to be biggest grosser ever in Delhi/UP and East Punjab and it remains to be seen how the other circuits go and of course the biggest record of all which is the PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE total in Hindi. The holiday period gives the edge to DHURANDHAR cover the 210 crore nett plus more needed to become the number one Hindi film of all time.

The COLLECTIONS of DHURANDHAR till date are as follows.
Week One - 1,96,44,00,000
Week Two - 2,40,83,00,000
Friday - 21,00,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 31,00,0,000 apprx
Sunday - 35,50,00,000 apprx
Third Week - 87,50,00,000 apprx (3 Days)
TOTAL - 5,24,77,00,000 apprx
----------------------------------
DHURANDHAR is on a extraordinary run overseas as it stands at around $21.25 million after the third weekend. The business in Overseas is even more better than the India numbers as all this is coming without Gulf and on top the film has remained unaffected by AVATAR: FIRE AND ASH which may have a different audience. However, it does hit showcasing in all the three main markets of US/Canada, United Kingdom and Australia.

The film stands at around $11.75 million in US/Canada while the United Kingdom is around $2 million. The film will continue to go strong now for two more weekends and the $30 million mark looks done for the film. The reason why the performance is even better than India is because its a patriotic film and they have restrictions in Overseas due to a huge chunk of the audience being from countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh. Also, pro India films don't find favour with this audience.

This is also the main reason why the film has not seen a Gulf release but it has not mattered as if it ends up with $30 million without Gulf then its pretty much a staggering collection. DHURANDHAR could challenge the PATHAAN and JAWAN numbers in US/Canada at $16.75 million and $14.75 million respectively. The latter should not be an issue and then it remains to be seen if it can become the number one Hindi film of all time in US/Canada.

The collections of DHURANDHAR in Overseas are as follows.
Week One - $8 million
Week Two - $9.50 million
Third Weekend -$3.75 million
TOTAL - $21.25 million (191.25 Crore)
----------------------------------
DHURANDHAR saw another fantastic hold on its third Monday and its been a similar story every Monday since release. The film saw a drop of just 25% and collected almost 16 crore nett which now takes the film to 540 crore nett leaving only JAWAN, STREE 2 and PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE in front of it in terms of films in the Hindi language only.

JAWAN may well be taken out today and STREE 2 should be done on Christmas Day leaving only PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE to chase down. The first week can be called excellent but what has gone on afterwards is just a riot and this likely to continue for a couple of weeks more for sure. This week sees Christmas on Thursday which should see a jump in collections and the week should easily close over 150 crore nett. This is when no other film has even seen an 100 crore nett third week.

The holiday period starts on Thursday till the New Year. So, there is a chance of doing 100 crore nett every week for the first four weeks and if this happens, then it can almost be said with certainty that DHURANDHAR will beat the business of PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE though it has to be noted that the Allu Arjun-starrer did not get much of a release in South India due to regional versions dominating which meant limit business down there. Meanwhile, DHURANDHAR is looking at a 125 crore nett total in South. The original Hindi films are no competition as all will be beaten within 3 weeks.

The COLLECTIONS of DHURANDHAR till date are as follows.
Week One - 1,96,44,00,000
Week Two - 2,40,83,00,000
Friday - 21,00,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 31,00,0,000 apprx
Sunday - 35,50,00,000 apprx
Monday - 15,75,00,000 apprx
Third Week - 1,03,75,00,000 apprx (4 Days)
TOTAL - 5,40,52,00,000 apprx
----------------------------------
DHURANDHAR had a little uptick in business on Tuesday as it collected a huge 16.50 crore nett. It goes without saying that nothing has been seen like on this on the third Wednesday. The business should be better on Wednesday and Thursday (Christmas day), making Monday the lowest day of the week and this was the same scenario in the first week.

The film took out JAWAN on Wednesday to become the third highest grossing Hindi film ever and now only STREE 2 and PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE stand in front of it. STREE 2 will also be done by the end of the week and then the journey starts to topple PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE, for which the fourth and fifth weeks will be crucial. The total so far for the film stands at 557.50 crore nett.

The third week collections of the film are looking comfortably over 150 crore nett and maybe can finish at around 160 crore nett. This will mean 196 crore nett week one, 240 crore nett in week two and 160 crore nett in week three. These collections of three weeks pretty much tell the story of the film.

The COLLECTIONS of DHURANDHAR till date are as follows.
Week One - 1,96,44,00,000
Week Two - 2,40,83,00,000
Friday - 21,00,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 31,00,0,000 apprx
Sunday - 35,50,00,000 apprx
Monday - 15,75,00,000 apprx
Tuesday - 16,50,00,000 apprx
Third Week - 1,20,25,00,000 apprx (4 Days)
TOTAL - 5,57,52,00,000 apprx
----------------------------------
DHURANDHAR takes its worldwide total to 880 crore and with that it becomes the third highest grossing Hindi film ever worldwide and there is just PATHAAN, JAWAN and PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE ahead of it with all these films in the 1000-1050 crore range. There is no doubt the film is going to become the biggest Hindi film worldwide.

The period over the next week or so is excellent in India and even more so in Overseas. The film collected around $1 million on its third Tuesday in Overseas which is more than the first day. There is a good chance that the film will be the biggest Hindi film in US/Canada and Australia adding to Delhi/UP and East Punjab in India which is practically certain.

It is still difficult to predict exactly where the film will end worldwide but 1150-1200 crore would be a realistic estimate. If it does not come down to lower levels post the New Year, then it could go even higher. This is the original Hindi film number as there is DANGAL which has over 2000 crore but that is various different formats and languages. DANGAL, the original Hindi film, is 702 crore. The comparison for that are films like BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION and PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE and even likes of JAWAN and ANIMAL when counting the other versions business.

The worldwide collections of the film till date are as follows.
India -  673 crore (557.50 crore nett)
Overseas -  207 crore ($23 million)
TOTAL - 880 crore
----------------------------------
DHURANDHAR continues to go up and up as collections on Wednesday go to 17.50 crore nett which is more than Monday and Tuesday and there will be more to come on Thursday which is Christmas Day. So, a jump is a foregone conclusion and the film could even go to 25 crore nett which miles ahead of anything seen on the last day of the third week.

The film stands at 575 crore nett at present and could be showing 600 crore nett after the final day of its third week which will be a first for an original Hindi film. PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE is the only Hindi film to achieve this but it was a dubbed film. The lifetime number of PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE of 735 crore nett also looks a foregone conclusion as it has the potential to pick up a 100 crore nett in the fourth week and then its within touching distance of the Allu Arjun-starrer.

The third week is looking to be over 160 crore nett and it will be third film to cross 200 crore nett in Mumbai circuit after PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE and CHHAAVA. The film will be in their range in the next few days. If the film can beat the PUSHPA 2 - THE RULE record in Mumbai circuit, that itself would be a pretty insane achievement as original Hindi films have struggled in the circuit. Its a huge victory for the industry as the film is coming out more of a North film with its Punjabi music becoming superhit. Moreover, there's a Pakistan base of the film and so for Mumbai to hit record levels is a dream.
