Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, which has released today on Netflix, is the third part of the much-loved Knives Out series. Yet again, the plot is promising while the setting is quite intriguing. Writer-director Rian Johnson neatly introduces the characters, their motives and then springs the murder angle. It goes without saying that the film gets better once the investigation by Benoit Blanc commences. A few twists and turns are quite unexpected and even shocking. On the flipside, the film is too long and it is the lengthiest movie of the series (146 minutes). The suspense and the whole game planned are too complicated and difficult to digest. This never happened in the previous parts, where the crime seemed impossible but also doable once the mystery was unveiled. Lastly, a few suspects were not properly fleshed out. Daniel Craig, as expected, rocks the show. Josh Brolin (Jefferson Wicks) perfectly plays a challenging part. Josh O'Connor (Jud Duplenticy) is like the lead actor-of-sorts here and he puts up a great act. Glenn Close (Martha) leaves a huge mark, followed by Daryl McCormack (Cy Draven) and Cailee Spaeny (Simone). Jeremy Renner (Dr Nat) is a letdown since he doesn't get scope. In fact, he gets overpowered by others. Mila Kunis (cop) is decent and it’s a surprise to see her in such an avatar. All in all, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is a decent film at best.
