Laalo - Krishna Sada Sahaayate is a Gujarati film that has become a miraculous, historic blockbuster. It was released on October 10 and for the first 2-3 weeks, it barely got any audience. But something changed in Week 4. The word of mouth spread and consequently, the demand for the film increased. Now several theatres are running 10, 20 and even 28 shows a day and most of them are going house full. It’s like this film, which has a divine element, has been blessed by the Gods themselves. After all, how do you explain this trend? It's unheard of in today’s times. The movie is about a rickshaw driver in Junagadh who gets into a mess and how he bumps into Lord Krishna in trying times. Due to the plot, it gives a déjà vu of OMG (this could be a perfect film to be remade as OMG 3!). The first 20 minutes are very gripping and what stands out at this point is the background score by Smmit Jay. Despite the limited budget, director Ankit Sakhiya has not compromised; the film doesn’t look like a substandard product in any way. Songs are lovely and the end credit track ‘Dwarika No Naath’ has led to a frenzy in cinemas. On the flipside, the first half gets repetitive and is quite slow. In fact, the story stagnates mid-way. A tighter edit would have been very helpful. Both Karan Joshi, the protagonist, and Shruhad Goswami, who plays Lord Krishna, are newcomers and they are terrific performers. Reeva Rachh (Tulsi) has a crucial part and does superbly. Parul Rajyaguru (neighbour) lends able support. Jaydeep Timaniya (Rasik), Mishty Kadecha (Khushi) and the actors playing the cop and parents also do well. All in all, Laalo - Krishna Sada Sahaayate is a must-watch. Here’s hoping the distributors release the film with subtitles in all cinemas so that it can reach out to more people. As for viewers, please book your tickets in advance.
