SUNNY SANSKARI KI TULSI KUMARI collected 9.25-9.50 crore nett on its first day which is a decent collection but that is down to holiday benefit. If the number had come on a normal day, then this would have actually been a good number especially for the genre. The film has done a little better in the NCR belt and Southern pockets but despite the holiday, it has not got the push it should have. This is true for KANTARA: A LEGEND – CHAPTER 1 as well.

In terms of the genre, it is the third biggest opener ever after TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR and COCKTAIL. The other two in the top five are DE DE PYAAR DE and TANU WEDS MANU RETURNS. This pretty much tells the struggles of the genre as so many films are made in this Rom Com genre but today box office numbers are tough to come it. It is different when you make a love story or comedy film but when you combine and put both together, the box office has a history of not being kind. This is now showing up again and again in the numbers of the films in this genre.

There are films like YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI, KABIR SINGH and recently SAIYAARA which are Love Stories and they manage to open and then you have the comedy films which have become franchises and they also can get an opening. The love story films probably have an emotional side which comes through to the public which differentiate them to the Rom Coms.

TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR remains the biggest rom com opening which was 14 crore nett on Holi day and that pretty much says it all as this film featured Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, a cast which is hard to better for the genre. Yet, that number itself is not good enough for the day of its release. If these top stars are only getting to this level, it hardly gives others a much of a chance. The caveat is blockbuster music but the industry is struggling on this side as well and SSUNNY SANSKARI KI TULSI KUMARI's music was not good enough.

SUNNY SANSKARI KI TULSI KUMARI will now have to show a huge jump on Saturday and preferably get back to to the day one number or even higher. Then maybe, it will have a chance to collect well until Diwali. KANTARA: A LEGEND – CHAPTER 1, it suffered in pockets like Gujarat due to Navratri but that tends to happen in this Dussehra period.
