Bhagwat Chapter One: Raakshas, which has been released today on Zee5, is inspired by true events. The narrative is gripping and keeps viewers hooked. There's no boring moment in the film at all. The performances are also superb. However, the film suffers big time as it's too similar to the widely watched web series, Dahaad. Secondly, the wife angle of the killer doesn't work. Also, the ending is abrupt. Arshad Warsi gets back in the Asur and Sehar zone and is too good. Jitendra Kumar plays a negative character for the first time and comes out with flying colours. Ayesha Kaduskar (Meera) delivers yet another impressive performance after Bada Naam Karenge. Tara Alisha Berry (Sumitra) does fine but is let down by the writing. Coral Bhamra (Kavita Shastri; photographer) makes her presence felt. Devas Dixit (Mahto; cop) is okay. All in all, Bhagwat Chapter One: Raakshas is an average flick; ideally, it should have been released before Dahaad since it was ready for a long time.
My rating - ** ½ out of 5!
