Tannishtha Chatterjee is quite a warrior. The filmmaker and actress has been quietly battling stage 4 oligometastatic cancer, and had the persistence to complete a film after her diagnosis and amid her chemotherapy sessions. Written and directed by Tannishtha, Full Plate, a lighthearted, slice-of-life take on social disparity and class commentary, will premiere at the Busan International Film Festival in September.

The film revolves around Amreen (Kirti Kulhari), a talented cook, housewife and mother of three, and how she must navigate unfamiliar vegan cuisine and class divides after her husband’s accident forces her to find work. The film also stars Monica Dogra, Sharib Hashmi, and Indraneil Sengupta in pivotal roles.

Tannishtha told us, “The shoot was done before I was diagnosed but we completed the post production after my diagnosis. I got back to working on the film after my second chemotherapy session and while it was tough, the film was a welcome distraction for me and it touches upon a relevant topic. My cast and I will be attending the premiere at Busan, we are thrilled.”

The actress wants to own her battles instead of concealing them and won’t be wearing a wig on the red carpet. “I am going to sport this bald look on the red carpet,” she concluded.
