A day after gunshots were fired outside Disha Patani’s home in Bareilly, the Uttar Pradesh Police have formed five on-ground teams, led by the SP City and SP Crime, as well as a cyber cell team to examine the Facebook post angle. Meanwhile, security around Disha’s Bareilly residence has been tightened, with an armed guard deployed outside. The police are also analyzing CCTV from nearby areas and toll plazas to track the suspects’ route. A case has been registered under Section 109 (attempt to murder) and Section 357 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

“We have information from the complainant that there was a round of firing on Thursday as well, but they didn’t wake up at that time. They got to know about it from their neighbours. Inke padosiyon ne kaha ki raat mein kuch aawaz aayi thi. We will be verifying that incident to find out what happened on the previous night. However, the complainant said they saw the Friday morning incident,” says Anurag Arya, SSP Bareilly.

“We have deployed a permanent armed guard outside their house,” he adds. The Uttar Pradesh Police’s Special Task Force is also investigating the case.

Disha’s father, DSP (Retd.) Jagdish Patani, who earlier had an arms license that belonged to his father, has now applied for a fresh arms license. Arya says, “He met DM sahab and he is now applying for an arms license. Neither he nor his daughter have any arms license in their name right now.”

“We are investigating the CCTV camera footage because we may get a lot of information from those clips,” says Arya, adding, “We have also formed another cyber cell team to look into the screenshot that was shared in WhatsApp groups (about Goldy Brar gang claiming responsibility). The account is probably still there, but that post has been deleted, hence the cyber cell is looking into that post.” F.I.R.

Shots were fired outside Disha’s residence in Bareilly at around 4.30 am on Friday, when the actress’ parents and her sister Khushboo, a former army officer, were inside the house. The Goldy Brar gang claimed responsibility in a Facebook post, calling the attack a retaliation for comments by Disha’s sister on spiritual leaders – Premanand Maharaj and Aniruddhacharya.
