The Punjabi film SAUNKAN SAUNKANAY 2 has scored at the box office as it records collections in the 2.05-2.10 crore nett range and is among the top ten openings for Punjabi films. It is after a long time that a Punjabi film has opened well which also has had its struggles post pandemic at the box office. The last was JATT & JULIET 3 which was 3.40 crore nett. The highest opening ever remains CARRY ON JATTA 3 with a huge 4.50 crore nett though it was a holiday.

SAUNKAN SAUNKANAY 2 also had a holiday, though only in Punjab. Hence, it remains to be seen how this has played out as the film has good collections also in Haryana and Delhi/UP which are sure to grow further though growth in Punjab maybe tougher to come by. The collections are a little less than SAUNKAN SAUNKNE (2022) but market conditions then had not deteriorated to the extent they have now, especially over the year.

The overseas numbers are better than the previous installment as the film collects around $200k though with Hollywood films dominating, there were showcasing issues in all the major circuits be it Canada, Australia or UK. The film got an excellent A$80k in Australia and United Kingdom was very good with £35k.

The worldwide gross for day one is almost 4.25 crore and the film should go on from here and emerge a winner. The Punjabi industry struggles are also down as many big films are being made in different genres while the box office has always seen a set pattern in each era. At present, the pattern is comedy genre for the bigger numbers. There will be exceptions but this film again proves the genre point as the safest bet.
