Aamir Khan reveals his initial resistance to therapy and how his perspective on counselling shifted during his separation from Reena Dutta

Aamir Khan recently opened up about his initial hesitation towards marriage counselling during his split from (first wife) Reena Dutta. In an interview with Pinkvilla, Aamir shared how, at the time, he wasn’t comfortable discussing his personal life with a stranger.

He recalled, “When Reena and I were separating, we went to a marriage counsellor for about a year and a half. That was my first experience with counselling.”

Aamir admitted, “I was strongly opposed to it. I told Reena, ‘I can’t share my feelings with a stranger. How can I open up about my relationship with someone I don’t know?’”

It was Reena who eventually persuaded him to give it a try, and the experience changed his perspective on therapy.

Aamir and Reena, married in 1986, have two children, Junaid and Ira. They divorced in 2002. Aamir later married Kiran Rao in 2005, but they separated in 2021 after 15 years together. They share a son, Azad, born via surrogacy. Aamir also recently introduced his girlfriend, Gauri Spratt, at his pre-birthday celebration.
