(Crisp) Movie Review: NADAANIYAN by FENIL SETA

Nadaaniyan, which has released today on Netflix, marks the debut of Ibrahim Ali Khan. The film has some cute moments, especially between the protagonists, and a few scenes raise some laughs. The music is the biggest USP of the film, especially 'Tirkit Dhoom'. It's unusual but also very catchy. On the flipside, the base of the story itself is shaky, as to why the protagonist gets into a deal. The conflict is very silly and one wonders why the makers couldn't come up with a better idea for it. A few characters disappear abruptly and all this makes it clear that the writing should have been stronger. Ibrahim Ali Khan has the spark and his resemblance with Saif Ali Khan is quite interesting. But he's a bit raw and needs to improve on his acting. Khushi Kapoor has a fine screen presence but just like her act in Loveyapa, she needs to polish her acting skills a bit more. Suniel Shetty looks dashing and does fine but his character gets a raw deal later on. Mahima Chaudhry is just okay. Jugal Hansraj and Dia Mirza are adorable. Archana Puran Singh (Mrs Braganza) is hilarious though a few of her dialogues are absurd. Meezan Jafri is hardly there while Riya Sen is horribly wasted. Others are passable. All in all, Nadaaniyan fails to impress due to its script.
