Dr Madhu Akhouri Chopra, mum of actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas, recently revealed that she regretted sending her daughter to a boarding school at the age of seven. “I don’t know if I was a mean mother. I still regret and cry over it. It was very hard for me too... But the thing was, every Saturday, I would leave my work and take a train to visit her. It became disruptive for her because she was not able to adjust to her boarding school. Saturday, she would wait for me to arrive, and then on Sunday, I would stay with her. Afterwards, the teacher told me, ‘Stop visiting’,” shared Madhu in an interview with Rodrigo Canelas for Something Bigger Talk Show podcast.
Madhu also revealed that her late husband (Dr Ashok Chopra) did not want to send Priyanka to a boarding school, and the decision caused tensions in their relationship.
She added, “For me, it was meant to be for her better. I thought I was failing as a parent. She was a good student, so we took her to school, La Martiniere, Lucknow. She gave the entrance test, she aced it, and we got the call, and then I told my husband… He was upset to another level, we did not have a normal conversation for a year. But he said, ‘[If it is] your decision, the outcome [will also] be yours’.”
However, all’s well that ends well. Madhu shares, “It is one regretful decision, but Priyanka turned out alright. She landed on her feet.”
