Girls Will Be Girls, which has released today on Amazon Prime Video, is the first production of Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal. It is the coming-of-age tale of a school girl in love with her classmate and her bond with her mother. Writer-director Shuchi Talati has peppered the film with very relatable scenes, that too with a dash of humour. At the same time, it also makes for an uncomfortable watch as Shuchi exposes the female discrimination practised in our society. The finale is nail-biting. On the flipside, a few aspects are not clear. Some developments happen too suddenly in the film as well. Preeti Panigrahi makes a confident debut and watch out for how she amazingly speaks through her eyes. Kani Kusruti delivers yet another power-packed performance after All We Imagine As Light. Kesav Binoy Kiron looks dashing and delivers a confident performance. Kajol Chugh (Priya) and Devika Shahani (Bansal ma'am) also do well. All in all, Girls Will Be Girls deserves a watch for its script, performances and relatability factor.
