Yogendra Vikram Singh, who was last seen in Teri Meri Dooriyaan, is excited about playing a lead role for the first time in a TV show. The actor, who will be seen in Bas Itna Sa Khwaab, feels that makers should stop following the conventional route when it comes to casting lead male actors.
He says, “When I started my journey in showbiz, I used to see other actors marketing themselves very well and I would wonder how a simple guy like me would ever make a place for myself. However, I believed in my abilities and felt that those who liked my work would approach me.”
Talking about how casting directors prefer lead actors who look a certain way, Yogendra shares, “If you see male leads in most shows, they look the same. The same kind of hairstyle, dressing and personality. If you don’t cast an unconventional looking guy, how will the audience understand the difference? I see a lot of progress when it comes to casting female leads, but male leads still look the same. I hope that changes soon.”
Yogendra, who has acted in films like Gunjan Saxena and NH 10, also shares how switching mediums wasn’t difficult for him. “I was doing films when I got a chance to do TV. I feel good actors will never have a problem in moving to any medium and bagging interesting roles. The problem arises when an actor starts considering himself a star, throws tantrums and then wants to move to a bigger medium. It is important to work on your craft and that’s what matters.”
