Mumbai: A special NIA court on Wednesday adjourned to November 8 an application by a 2008 Malegaon blast accused to stay release of a film, ‘Match Fixing: The Nation At Stake’, after its producer of the intervened and sought to be heard as well. The film is allegedly based on “saffron terrorism”, said 2008 Malegaon blast case accused Samir Kulkarni, who also claimed that the movie would raise questions over fairness of the trial.

The producer’s plea stated that a similar plea has been pending before the Bombay high court, which is scheduled to hear the matter on November 11. The court passed no interim orders as of now to stay the film’s scheduled November 15 release. The National Investigation Agency, which is the prosecution agency, filed its say before the special designated Judge A K Lahoti.

The special public prosecutor for National Investigation Agency, Avinash Rasal, submitted the reply, which cited a 2019 order of the special court that restrained any debate or discussion on the subject of the trial until it concludes.

The National Investigation Agency said that based on the CD, the film “resembles facts and circumstances of the case” and hence sought “appropriate orders” be passed by the court “in the interest of justice”.
