Govinda is all smiles as he gets discharged from hospital after suffering gunshot injury, to resume work soon

THE TIMES OF INDIA (October 5, 2024)

Mumbai: Actor-politician Govinda was discharged from an Andheri hospital on Friday, three days after he sustained bullet injuries from the accidental discharge of his licensed .32 bore revolver.

Juhu police have taken a statement from the actor who told them that on Oct 1 the revolver slipped from his hand as he was about to place it in a locker, causing a bullet to misfire and strike his left leg.

Despite reports suggesting that Juhu police were skeptical about the actor’s account about the incident and are considering re-recording his statement, DCP (Zone IX) Dikshit Gedam has expressed satisfaction with the details provided by Govinda.

Juhu police have also recorded statements from the actor’s daughter Tina and other family members. “From the actor’s guards (who are cops), it was learned that Govinda was alone in the flat while they were outside when the firing occurred. They rushed inside and took the actor to Criticare Hospital where he underwent surgery and the bullet was re moved,” said a police officer.

The officer further stated that no complaint have been filed by anyone, and the incident is currently being treated as an accident.

Mumbai crime branch, which is investigating the case, has not found any evidence of suspicion or foul play.

The actor’s weapon has been sent to the forensic department for examination by the police.

Actor-politician Govinda was rushed to a hospital near his Juhu residence early morning on Tuesday after he accidentally shot himself in the left leg around the knee at his home. The bullet was removed, and the actor was kept under observation for a day in the ICU. He was then moved to the general ward and was discharged yesterday afternoon.

Govinda’s wife, Sunita Ahuja, told BT, “He is doing fine. He was discharged yesterday. He has been advised bed rest for six weeks. He has to be on a strict diet, and he won’t be able to move around or work out. He will be back on his feet and start dancing very soon. Our belief in God saved him. I would like to thank all his well-wishers who stood by us in this difficult time.”

Govinda’s son Yashvardhan shared a picture on social media holding his dad’s hand. “Strong man,” he wrote with it.
