Devara Review: Jr NTR's Film Does Occasionally Manage To Anchor Itself To Terra Firma
Box Office India Trade Network

DEVARA - PART 1 has taken a good opening day of 7.50 crore nett as the film pushed higher in the evening. The opening of the film is a huge surprise as it was slow in the morning maybe as awareness was not much and at best you thought it may get to around 6 crore nett. That, too, seemed liked a stretch but the film has beaten all calculations.

The mass markets are very good for the film as some circuits actually record better numbers than most of the original Hindi films released this year. Odisha is the huge outperformer with over 50 lakh nett which is a huge number for the circuit. Even a circuit like East Punjab, which is an underperformer for most South films, has scored 56 lakhs nett.

The opening day has really set up the film and now its about the growth which does not have to be outstanding and the film should get over 25 crore. The advances suggest good growth but there is a huge contribution from mass markets and a lot depends on them. This puts two South films among the top openers this year in the Hindi market with KALKI 2898 AD and DEVARA - PART 1.

Also, there has been hardly any promotion for the film and there is no hit song but its seems these mass markets just want this rustic content and even give something like this a go when maybe it looks a bit unreal as to what is the world. The film is on its way to success now in its Hindi version.
------------------------------------------
DEVARA - PART 1 (Hindi) did well again on Saturday as it collected 8.75 crore nett taking its two day total to 16.25 crore nett. The growth was around 15% and that is basically because a lot of business is coming from the mass areas like UP, Bihar, Odisha etc and they were flat as single screens don't grow on day two especially if business is at a good level on day one which was the case with this film.

The film did see a jump of business at the bigger multiplexes as the PVR Inox chains was up almost 30% which is far higher than the national average. There was also growth in Mumbai circuit as the Marathi film, DHARMAVEER 2, had affected the film on the first day.

The film should have a healthy Sunday as mass circuits should jump again and the weekend is looking at a 25 crore nett plus which is a good result for the film. Then it becomes about Monday and even a normal drop will be good enough for the film to benefit from the national holiday. The first week is going to reach the 40 crore nett mark or even go higher higher.

The film has seen a drop in the South which is normal but Nizam/Andhra remains outstanding and Mysore/Karnataka is good. Tamil Nadu/Kerala also dropped from low numbers and these two are not going anywhere for the film. The all India business of the film on day two will be roughly around 35 crore nett.

The two day numbers of DEVARA - PART 1 (Hindi) are as follows.
Friday - 7,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 8,75,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 16,25,00,000 apprx
------------------------------------------
DEVARA - PART 1 has collected 74 crore nett apprx across India which is around 10 crore nett less than KALKI 2898 AD and its mainly because of the Hindi version that this gap is there. The Hindi version is almost 14 crore nett less than KALKI 2898 AD.

Basically DEVARA - PART 1 has scored better in the home language of Telugu as compared to KALKI 2898 AD. There is a huge gap in Nizam/Andhra where DEVARA - PART 1 is 7 crore nett better and it becomes the second best opener in that state after RRR which collected 63 crore nett in the state. In terms of the all time list which is full of Telugu films and KGF - CHAPTER 2, it is the sixth highest ever after KGF, RRR BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONLCUSION, KALKI 2898 AD and SALAAR.

KGF - CHAPTER 2, RRR and BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONLCUSION are all around the 100 crore nett mark in terms of opening day collections.

The opening day comparison of KALKI 2898 AD and DEVARA - PART 1 is as follows.
