STREE 2 had another huge day as collections remained in double digits as it collected 11.50 crore nett taking the second week total to 122.50 crore nett. The film got another boost with some Janmashtami leftover in Gujarat and Dahi Handi in Maharashtra which enabled collections in Maharashtra to be better than Monday at many places.

It meant a superb hold for Mumbai circuit though in other circuits there were 40-45% drops which means most places are at fair value and Mumbai should hit that today (Wednesday). Irrespective of the boost in Mumbai circuit, these are extraordinary collections as the film is still this high after a huge period where it was aided by many holidays.

The film is looking at a crazy second week in the range of 140 crore nett which is more than GADAR 2, ANIMAL and JAWAN. Crossing the 500 crore nett mark is pretty much there for the film and just about how much above 500 crore nett it can go remains to be seen. There is an open weekend ahead and no doubt it will have bumper collections on Saturday and Sunday. The total so far for the film is 416.50 crore nett.

STREE 2 and ANIMAL have had very similar first week collections of 290 crore nett plus though for STREE 2, it is eight days and also includes paid previews. STREE 2 has scored over ANIMAL in East, West and Central while the latter was better in South.

In the North (Delhi/UP and East Punjab), the collections are similar but ANIMAL's first week collections are of seven days and basically you have to say that it is better. STREE 2 also got benefit of the huge Raksha Bandhan period in UP and that has propelled the collections in that area. It is because of this that the collections in Mumbai circuit do not look great as they are only 17-18% ahead of Delhi/UP when they should be more.

But in actual fact is that Mumbai circuit is outstanding for STREE 2. ANIMAL scored better in South especially Nizam/Andhra which is 125% higher and that too with a Telugu version running riot but the Sandeep Reddy Vanga factor was in play in this circuit. 

Its been around three years since cinema started again post pandemic and barring Punjab (political) its pretty much business as normal. Punjab (political) has issues and audiences are reluctant to watch Hindi films and its not just about the content. ANIMAL did the numbers but that film is almost the perfect film for the state. There was even reluctance to watch GADAR 2 initially but eventually the public came.

The other fear within the industry is Gujarat but that seems a more of a content based issue as once a heartland mass film comes like GADAR 2 or STREE 2 arrives, the circuit does extremely well. Here also the original STREE was not huge or wasn't a GOLMAAL type brand in Gujarat. Yet, STREE 2 is looking to notch up a 50 crore nett plus number in the state. KGF - CHAPTER 2 and RRR were also outstanding in the state.
