Chandu Champion Review: Kartik Aaryan Pulls Off A Career-Best Performance
Box Office India Trade Network

CHANDU CHAMPION had a very low first day of around 4.25 crore nett as the film collected lower than day one of MUNJYA in most of the circuits. It was just a few select areas that were better like NCR, bigger centres of East Punjab and Mysore while the rest was generally lower. A CI where Kartik Aaryan films do best and where no face value films find it tough had lower numbers than MUNJYA on day one which pretty much tells the story of CHANDU CHAMPION at the box office.

The industry had an awful Eid with BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN and MAIDAAN and then it was a barren period with hardly any releases but films like SRIKANTH and MUNJYA surprised and pulled that period through. However, with the first major film CHANDU CHAMPION, its back to square one with this opening. The flow of releases start from end of June and you just have to hope for better times because as if things continue like this, then the releases will be even less than they are now.

The opening of CHANDU CHAMPION is no surprise as the trailer was bad which offered no entertainment and was devoid of music. Also, the film looked in the zone of MAIDAAN and hence, it was expected that there would be very limited interest but again the industry had expectations. One thing it may have had going for it is some pent up demand with so few releases over the last two months which may have pushed it a little but that also does not look there.

The opening of the film is pretty much on the lines of MAIDAAN which was released on a national holiday but clashed with a bigger film BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN and here CHANDU CHAMPION has to trend far better than MAIDAAN if it is to get out his hole.

Obviously, last week's MUNJYA had a similar opening and has emerged a HIT but CHANDU CHAMPION is a far bigger film and should have some interest on day one itself if it is to get anywhere at the box office. The film now needs huge growth on Saturday just to stay in the race.
