Choreographer Pony Verma continues to be grateful for the faith that filmmaker Priyadarshan had in her when he offered her the opportunity to choreograph the song Ami Je Tomar (Mere Dholna) in Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007). “He called me and said, ‘Pony you’re going to do the song of your life’,” she tells us.

Today, Verma hopes to choreograph it again after actor Vidya Balan, who she calls her “lucky mascot”, first performed on it, followed by actor Kartik Aaryan in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (2022).

“When have we seen a commercial actor doing a classical number? [Kartik] did a wonderful job,” she expresses.

With both the actors returning for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, Verma has her fingers crossed. “I hope I get this opportunity,” she adds.

Recalling how she choreographed the original song, she says, “Vidya used to have swollen feet, bruised knees.”

For Verma, choreographing a song that features a disoriented woman dancing was something she had never done before. “It’s not like gaana kiya, paisa liya aur chale gaye. It was beyond that. Vidya and I cried when we saw [the final cut],” she wraps up.
