Recently, Rakesh Bedi was allegedly duped of Rs. 85,000 by a conman posing as an Army man while the veteran actor was trying to sell off his Pune-based flat.

“He sent me his Aadhaar card and PAN card (for authenticity). He said he wanted to buy my flat that he saw on a website and asked me to share pictures. I did, and he said he has an Army card; the money will be transferred to my account,” the 69-year-old tells us.

Bedi was asked to transfer one rupee to the conman’s account, with the assurance of a Rs. 50,000 transfer from the buyer’s end. However, the actor didn’t receive any money; on the contrary, he was asked to transfer more. That’s when he realized it was a fraud.

“When I went to the cybercrime unit, they told me it was a case of organized fraud. ‘Yeh toh purane khiladi lagte hain, kyunki yeh fraud bahut saal pehle hota tha, aaj hota bhi nahi hai’, said the cops. As of now, they have not been able to help me. I have given them the details: abhi dekhte hain kuch karte hain ya nahin karte hain. They (cybercrime) unit should catch these people soon. Money isn’t the biggest thing, but the crooks should be caught,” Bedi ends.
