(Crisp) Movie Review: THE BEEKEEPER by FENIL SETA

The Beekeeper starts with a bang. A crucial action scene comes up suddenly and is a nice surprise. But then, the film becomes cliched and reminds a lot of John Wick. A twist in the second half is unexpected and the finale is also watchable. But due to parallels with the Keanu Reeves starrer and beaten-to-death narrative, the impact is minimal. Jason Statham, as expected, suits the part and looks dashing in the action scenes. Josh Hutcherson is convincing as the villain. Emmy Raver-Lampman (FBI Agent Verona Parker) and Bobby Naderi (Agent Matt Wiley) are fair but are let down by the writing. Jeremy Irons (Wallace Westwyld) leaves a mark. Jemma Redgrave (President Danforth) gives a weak performance. All in all, The Beekeeper is an average fare.
My rating - ** ½ out of 5!
