ANIMAL set the box office on fire as it recorded day one collections of around 52.50 crore in Hindi and a 10 crore nett plus total coming from regional versions for an all India total of 63 crore nett apprx. The Hindi numbers of the film are the third highest ever after JAWAN and PATHAAN while in all languages, only JAWAN is higher at 72 crore nett.

The film has racked up crazy numbers in Nizam/Andhra not just in Hindi but in Telugu also and this is just not just Nizam/Andhra but in overseas also where the Telugu version has put extraordinary numbers. Such numbers have never ever been seen for a Hindi film dubbed into Telugu. Because of this huge contribution from Telugu, the film has gone over the 100 crore mark worldwide. The Hindi version also has huge numbers worldwide as overseas is also extraordinary.

The collections are also fantastic across all Hindi circuits as circuits like East Punjab, Rajasthan, CI and Bihar have gone above the numbers of PATHAAN and JAWAN but it is less in the bigger circuits like Mumbai and Delhi/UP which keeps the overall number less. The numbers across mass circuits are huge for Ranbir Kapoor and far higher than all his other films. The opening day numbers in East Punjab, Rajasthan and CI are double the number of BRAHMASTRA.

The film picked up well in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Eastern India as numbers from all these areas have come in higher than expected. The film does have an overdose of sex and violence which could eventually tell in the conservative parts of the country. But that is compensated with a strong story like a 90's potboiler which appeals heavily to the mass audience and above all that it has momentum on its side.

SAM BAHADUR had a pretty decent first day of 6 crore nett apprx with solid contributions in Mumbai, Delhi NCR and Bangalore though other big centres like Kolkata and Hyderabad were dull. The film needed heavier collections as the film has a healthy budget but if you consider the competition, then 6 crore nett is a good number. The film is sure to show strong growth on day 2.
-------------------------------------------
ANIMAL has recorded the third highest first day of all time as it collects 52.50 crore nett and becomes the fifth film to collect over 50 crore nett on the opening day, the other four being WAR, KGF - CHAPTER 2, PATHAAN and JAWAN. The opening is third best ever and the third best of the year showing how far the opening days have come for the big films. Basically the four biggest openings are all post pandemic.

The film is by far the highest opening day for a Ranbir Kapoor starrer as it beats the 34.19 crore nett of SANJU and 30.37 crore nett of BRAHMASTRA. In between BRAHMASTRA and ANIMAL, there was TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR which opened at 13.98 crore nett showing the potential difference of genre today. The difference was there pre pandemic but now its gone to a different level.

The difference between a BRAHMASTRA and ANIMAL is that ANIMAL caters to the mass male audience in a big way while that is not the case with BRAHMASTRA. The way the hero is projected always made a huge difference with this mass male audience and its no different today. Also it gets a huge bulk of the initial audience and to get an initial you have to cater to this audience. This is where films like ANIMAL, GADAR 2, JAWAN and PATHAAN have scored.

The numbers of ANIMAL also show that the holiday is also now not as important as pre pandemic when the film has initial appeal. If it was a national holiday, then it would have done better but only by 15-20% when earlier the holiday boost was generally higher. This is because audiences are frequenting cinemas less and waiting for the bigger films and now they don't need the holiday as much as before where the box office was spread more evenly.
